I see...well at least I think I read we haven't had a blocked PUNT or defensive TD since 2010 in Andy Bitters most recent article

Bob Knight commentates college basketball on ESPN. During the Tech-WVU game this year, WVU had the lead and was shooting free throws. He said something along the lines of "Now, if he misses this, they'll still have the lead. If he makes it, the lead will get bigger".

My apologies gentlemen, to you and to young Mr. Brown. Sometimes the capriciousness of the system and the desire to see VT successes leads me to feel frustrated. Just scratching my head wondering what leads us to fail on many of the best recruits in our own home state. Oh well, just have to enjoy the victories on the field more and the whims of teenagers less. Thanks for running a great fan page that self-corrects in a gentle and fair manner.

I think London is telling them they can help build the program. Make UVA into something. Shame to see these top recruits waste their talent, as they won't receive the right coaching.

I think Tony Gregory blocked a kick last year against Austin Peay and we blocked one against App state the year before, but its been several years since we blocked a kick against an FBS school.

1. Recruiters need to overlap. I've worked in outside sales for 5+ years, and I can attest to the power of many. The more faces, names, and personalities that customers (players in this case) get to know, the stronger the relationship. If a recruit only knows VT as Bud or Cornell, and there is any wavering in their perception of said recruiters longevity, it will dramatically impact the relationship and decision--for the worse.
2. Develop stronger ties with highschool coaches. In many scenarios, the highschool coach is a second father (or first) to these kids, and if the coach is impressed, the kids will get a sense of confidence from a trusted advisor. The Ford kid is a classic example.
3. Start early. If we're the team that brings them to the dance, there's a stronger possibility they'll go home with us. Recognize talent early, make offers once you identify the talent, and stay in their ear.
4. Be confident. People buy from those that they feel sure about. No need to be "braggadocio", just exhibit confidence. Men, mothers, HS kids, all feed off that mentality. We need to walk into these living rooms across the state and act like we are the champions that we are. No need to display disrespect, just an assuredness of who we are and where we are going...to the top.

Playing better football sounds about right to me....I'd like to see a blocked kick early this year..fg/ep/or punt I don't care really. The last time I saw tech block a kick I believe was when we turned the tide in the ACC championship game against Clemson in 2011 and blocked that punt...oh wait...DOH!

Everything is perfectly fine...we have seen this time and again. I wouldn't be surprised if UVA has landed more high star recruits then us over the last 15 years but our classes generally ended up ranked higher...plus we nearly always beat them...and will continue to do so. I am not concerned in the least...I liked the comment about our coaching staff offering kids that attend camps at Tech and seeing them first hand, I too trust their judgement and I think we all should. We've been very good for a long time, and were gonna be pretty darn good this year too I reckon.

To get a little more back on track, Kennyhokie, yes, getting back to our core principles/identity would be the way to go.

I say go for it. Heck, John Madden made a living with pearls of wisdom like, "The team with the most points is going to win this game."

Shoot, I should start my own blog or start being a commentator. This stuff is easy.

Ehhh I dunno about that. That sounds like something a recruit would tell his mom to keep her happy about his school decision. I seriously doubt Brown picked UVa because he thinks he'll have a more successful post-grad business life if there is no post-grad football life, or many other recruits for that matter.

There you have it, gents! Play football better. Ding ding ding

I think we just need to play football better.

Congratulations to Brown for making a decision that is a dream of any football player/fan (to be able to essentially choose where you would like to continue to develop your talents). However, have fun learning to accept defeat to your bitter rival from Southwest Virginia for the next 5 years!

This isn't really something we can change, but I think another big thing is the perception of academics (at least in the UVA situations). VT really has excelled in the last few years of being a very good academic school (nowadays, the average high school GPA is like a 3.9 and a roundabout 1250 SAT score for the incoming freshmen classes). I still believe people think that VT isn't a good academic school (except for engineering, of course). I think UVA tries to preach that a degree from their school will hold a lot more weight and if a player doesn't go to the NFL, that he will still have a good chance to be successful.

And Dadi...after the spring he had I feel he's ready to explode1

what years were the two of you? and when I got the sweater this past fall pretty sure I wore it for about a week straight regardless of UOD, best 200 bucks ive ever spent!

We cant worrie about the ones we dont get ..we got to worry about the ones we have...

Frank....

If we handle out business on the field we control va and control things off of the field. ..we wont get 5 stars going 7-6!!!!
