The 2011 Kraft Fight Hunger bowl (UCLA vs Illinois) was easily the most putrid display of football I have ever seen. Even worse than our Russell Athletic Bowl. Find and watch it if you like, but it is more a mixture of comedy and horror than it is a good football game.

I think Hernandez. Vick (for the most part) had a clean past. Hernandez, on the other hand, had a history of violence and poor decision makers. He almost got kicked out of the UF (which is almost impossible) and dropped like a stone in the draft...BECAUSE OF SUSPICION OF BEING IN A GANG! (seriously). [which makes me wonder about what gangs in CT would be like...maple syrup gangsters! :)]
Hope it's Brown...as he's supposed to announce tomorrow (28th)...timing feels right.
Then again, I'm trying not to get my hopes up...this has been a weird offseason.
Hernandez's crime is much worse but the public's reaction will not be as bad as it was for Vick. People will say, Hernandez killed a guy, went to jail, he is no longer a topic of discussion. Vick on the other hand harmed dogs, which people love more than strangers (people will pull over to help a dog before they would for another person). The public perception is Vick is a monster while Hernandez is a criminal. In 5 years, Hernandez's crime will be forgotten among the masses, Vick will always have a spot in infamy for dog fighting. Sad but true.
Have to say that it would be mildly entertaining if Weaver found out Hughes was leaving by Oklahoma announcing it first. Kind of like how Greenberg found out he was fired when Weaver announced there was to be a basketball press conference later in the day.
DE at Bama wouldn't be a thrilling college career. He would be a very good one no doubt but your whole purpose is to eat up blocks, not make plays. I'd love him at DT for us.
I realize we put a minimal amount of money in any of our Olympic sports programs and put the primary efforts into football, but why can't we reward success? No coach is going to want to come and stay at a school that does this sort of stuff. They will see it as a stepping stone and move on after a few years.

Bologna. Coaches just shovel this stuff out too. I could never be a recruiter. Alabama's DEs are comparable to VT's DTs anyway. Similar assignments, filling gaps, creating blitzing lanes for someone else to get to the QB, or creating pressure on the QB during passing downs, but they are not going around the edge like a DE at VT. In Saban's scheme almost Everything is funneled to the LB. DE in a 3-4 is not the same as DE in 4-3. Position wise, It is not more glamerous to be a DE at BAMA than a DT at VT. Does Saban explain all this to him. Well, I hope he knows.
This was going to be my suggestion. It was a great game between 2 great teams.
I think a lot of it has to do with innocence. Vick raised and tortured/killed dogs for profit. The dogs didn't have any say in the matter - they were just the ones unfortunate enough to be bred/purchased by him.
People look at individuals killed in situations like the Hernandez case and say "That guy knew who Hernandez was, he knew he was bad news, and he continued to hang out with him." I'm not sure wether that's fair or not - although I'm sure the guy who was killed certainly didn't have a clean conscience.
I fully admit that killing a person is a far worse offense than killing a whole mess of dogs. That's why Hernandez will go to jail for a very long time, whereas Vick got out quickly enough to resume his NFL career. Having said that, I can understand why a lot of people find Vick's offense(s) more stomach-turning.

UVA scores a touchdown with a minute and a half left and Scott Stadium goes nuts! Illegal procedure and the Cavs settle for a field goal. GT takes the kickoff and drives down and Scott Sisson nails a 41 yarder to the dismay of a full stadium in Charlottesville!
