Nice Mike Lange shout-out! Need to beat Ottawa tonight and put them on the brink after that debacle last game.

Tyrod Taylor will be a first ballot hall of famer at Virginia Tech, but I don't think we need to retire his jersey. Retiring jerseys needs to be reserved for the most elite of accomplishments. I mean... he was never even an All-American.

Pitt was a big rival back in the Big East days, and they have four straight victories over us. What more do you guys need?

Not cool dude. Us WV Hokies don't like wvu either but still, not kosher

Hokies beat uva 10-1! It's not exactly "38-0, bro" but it still feels oh so sweet considering uva is #5 in the country. That gives the Hokies 3 out of 4 wins over the cavs this season! BOOM!

"We even played them tough when they were good. Really good."

2001. Ernest Wilford. 'Nuff said.

What's the 3-way tiebreaker in the ACC Tournament for pool winners? I know a two-way would be head to head, but I'm just thinking of ways we can get in. Win out obviously, but what if we beat FSU tomorrow and then lose to GT but GT loses to UVA. That would put us and GT at 2-1 and then if UVA beats FSU they're 2-1 also. What's the tiebreaker there? Higher seed seems like a BS tiebreaker to me if that's what it is.

Yeah...I think it was their "First Down" song or maybe it had something to do with Fitzgerald.

Auburn had good Rb's but not SEC-type game changers. They made good enough reads (although maybe a little inconsistent), but in the first 3 games I never saw anything that made my jaw drop.

I'm not predicting Edmunds is going to be great (I'm probably a little less optimistic about him then others. I think he could be very good, but his running style reminds me of David Wilson's... without Wilson's elite speed) but I wouldn't be flabbergasted if he turned into one of the better ACC RB's.

Agree to disagree.

Quarterback is far and away the most important position in sports, as well as the most difficult. I refuse to believe that an All-American Tight End is as important as an All-conference Quarterback. I understand the desire to put up benchmarks to decide who qualifies but there's no need to write those qualifications in stone. It's not like we're talking about tax policy. We're talking about putting a number up on a banner in a stadium for purely sentimental reasons.

We are talking about an honor being extended to a player which exhibited all the qualities we look for at Tech throughout his FOUR YEAR career. What he accomplished in his four years at Tech was probably more physically, emotionally, and intellectually taxing than anything I'll ever do in a similar time frame.

TL;DR Tyrod deserves to have his number retired.

FWIW, I fully believe Tyrod could have led the 2011 team to a National Title game if it hadn't been for a certain former quarterback being incapable of succeeding and forcing the coaches to burn Tyrod's redshirt.

Agreed, and to look on the bright side of that: we will have more numbers and names put up there. There will be more elite of the elite coming through this program in the future. That'll be fun.

He won my heart too Horse.

He is probably in my top 5 of favorite Hokies. I was even more excited the day Tyrod picked us over Florida then I was the day Kevin Jones (#1 recruit in America) picked us over Penn State. He was the next big thing out of the 757 - and he lived up to expectations - leading the team with great play for a better part of 4 years.

Thankfully, the VT athletic dept came up with a policy that makes the line pretty clear on who gets retired and who misses the cut. You have to win a major national individual award to be considered. Heisman, Walter Camp, Maxwell, Nagurski, etc. In other words, you have to be the elite of the elite.

The only other VT QB up there is Michael Vick. Heisman Finalist, ESPY player of the year winner, National Championship Appearance. And my favorite stat - 20-1 as a starter.

Tyrod is in that 2nd tier of great Hokies along with TD Lee Suggs, Kevin Jones, Shayne Graham, Vince Hall, Macho Harris to name a few. Great careers and great Hokies - just not elite.

Yeah, Erick Green is going to be an important part of someone's bench early in his career. If he keeps working hard he could work his way into a playoff teams starting rotation.

To me, a rival is the last team you ever want to lose to. We could lose to every team on the schedule, but as long as we beat UVA, it's okay. There's no other team that I can say that about. I hate Miami, GT, and Clemson as well as FSU and JMU all for different reasons. But losing to them is not near as bad as losing to UVA would be. I'm happy to not be familiar with that feeling.
