Wise,

I really don't have a specific issue with the players gaming in their spare time. I just get the feeling that the entitlement attitude of a few players in this current crop has spilled over to this year. I'd just like to see the 1st stringers as hungry on the field as the 3rd stringers.

In rapid fire mode:

Awesome TKP shirts and the secondary.
Everything not called "the defense"
Brandon Facyson, Jonathan McLaughlin, Zach McCray
Brooks Abbott (not kidding)
Everyone

I have two words: OFFENSIVE LINE. If that group can improve over summer practices and gel as a unit, we should be fine. Our success this year depends on this group.

I'm most concerned with the Fullbacks. We haven't heard much about them, but it seems like they are a pretty critical piece in this offensive scheme. If the entire O line blocks perfectly, but our fullback gets manhandled, it's the same result. I think that's an area that we need to improve.

I'm also not so sure about special teams. Sure, the punter is much improved, but what about his protection? And Cody can't hit any FG's outside of 40, so that's a bit of an issue...

I'm confident in our D line, though. Those guys are ready to go.

"She really wants me to go to Virginia Tech."

always good to hear that from mom

you can get upset with a player for making the wrong decision, whether it ends up working out or not. Props to LT for a beautiful throw, but he needs to make a better decision and not throw that next time.

What's one thing you're not going to worry about heading into August Camp and the Alabama game?
Kickers and Punters. AJ Hughes on punts, Cody Journell on FGs and Brooks Abbott on Kickoffs sees like a good combo.

What's one thing that definitely needs to be fixed in August before we play Alabama?
Logan's decision making. 1-2-3(-4-5(-6-7)) *look left* *look right* *check down/run*

Who were the players that really impressed you?
The young guns on defense. Especially Dadi Nicolas, Deon Clarke, Devin VanDyke. Johnathan McLaughlin certainly held his own at LT.

Which second-teamer is going to push for playing time this fall?
All the guys listed above. But to give you a straight answer -- Dadi Nicolas. He certainly made his presence known on defense, but it still very raw.

Who are the players that need to improve before kickoff?
Mark Shuman needs to stop drawing holding calls. I would say Michael Holmes as well, but he's gonna miss summer practice.

AJ Hughes

Offensive line play/toughness

Who were the players that really impressed you?
DVD, Josh Stanford, Ken Ekanem

Which second-teamer is going to push for playing time this fall?
DVD, Dadi Nicolas, Stanford again (I bet he gets starter PT)

Who are the players that need to improve before kickoff?
Basically the entire offense

I completely agree with the kickoff return issues. I was really frustrated with that since at least one botched return essentially cost the 1st team offense a possession. I see no reason to use anyone other than JCC or Knowles back there, possibly with the exception of Jarrett.

What if Bama had 9 turnovers in their spring game? What if Logan has all of summer and fall camp to improve (as he already has in 15 practices)? Well, we'd probably have to wait until August to see what actually happens in the game.

...That's messed up dude.

"Oh man, can't wait to tell everyone how this kid stabbed somone!!! #VirginiaTechStabies!!!"

Why?

Cornerback depth chart.

Who were the players that really impressed you?
Kyshoen, James Gayle, Donovan Riley

Which second-teamer is going to push for playing time this fall?
Josh Stanford, Joel Caleb

Who are the players that need to improve before kickoff?
Logan, Trey Edmunds, Malleck, O-Line

I think you mean "because he's constantly being attacked by a largely ignorant fan base". And that I would completely agree with. There is no "or" here...

To add to this, its not like our second best DE lining up on the other end is a scrub. Having Gayle lining up against the RT does not preclude the LT getting beat. There will still be pressure from the blindside.
