We lost our first and fourth games that year (USC and NC State), so we actually started off 2-2.
There is such a thing as practice overload, too. Sometimes, it's all about playing smarter, not harder. I have no problem with the players gaming in their off-time.
Needless to say, many of us will be following updates and reports from the summer very closely. I for one think that although the offense had a poor showing, at least there was a spring game this year to begin with. That's one more major practice, all squads got in. Having it cancelled last year, didn't help matters at all. Just like the Russell Athletic Bowl helped the team have more time to practice.
You make a good point with the Gayle comment. If I was a starter on this team, returning from last year's 7-6 team (Thank God for UVa and Duke), I believe I would have a different attitude about my "cake walk".
Instead of moseying around until the music stops, I would have wanted to come out on Sat in front of the fans and stomp that mother trucking cake into the ground.
I hate to say it, but I think these "tip of the spear" and "T-Time" antics indicate that these coaches are worried that this team is soft. And...I think they are dead on. Beamer needs to go to Merryman and cut the cords on the Playstations and just play John Wayne movies on a 24/7 loop or something.
I'll forgive this question if you are under drinking age without fake id ;)
We offered him a spot as a walk-on if I remember correctly. I could be wrong but that's how I remember it.
I'm sure he is in prime shape and can rain some damage. Although noses aren't that hard to break.
Brick killed a guy
Edit: Currently watching Anchorman because of this thread
It's not like he is the only one saying this stuff though. Players don't want to put the work into making a four year career. They want to come in as freshmen, look good for scouts, not get injured and leave for the NBA, although most end up in Europe. And the ones that don't catch on with a team end up not playing basketball and not have a degree.
Parents are probably the worst cause of this and yet it gets blamed on coaches, administration and other factors. We didn't get Seth because his mom said screw you Greenberg after Steph only got the walk on offer.
It takes sheer determination for a kid to go from unknown to All-American (a la Erick Green), which is part effort, part coaching, and a little bit of luck and being in the right place at the right time.
How come Rivals says we offered him? I don't really keep up w basketball, but I checked his Rivals page.
I want to keep him for ourselves.
very true but ive walked out of the hospital with 17 stitches across my ear and neck from glass shattering across my face in a car crash before, before so take that with a grain of salt, ill be real interested to see what the details are. sounds like it couldve been a fight and he just did the most damage
Exactly. I think that's what most of us saying that Leal deserves a shot are saying. It doesn't mean just give him the starting job and bench Logan. It means we want him to at least be given some consideration, maybe that small amount of consideration for the backup will make Logan work that much harder. And hey, maybe Leal surprises the coaches and turns out to be the better quarterback of the two. After all, Johnny Football wasn't the favorite to win the A&M quarterback battle last year and look at how that turned out for them.
No Seth, you're right. It's never the coaches!
LOL! The NBA playoffs are going on right now, you think Seth regrets not recruiting Steph Curry yet?
Strongbad reminds me of VT days circa 2005. You get a turkey leg
Our 1st year in the ACC we were picked to finish in the bottom half of the league. Many were saysing that we would take a step back because the ACC was supposed to be a better conference than the BE. I think the media picked Miami and FSU to be the top 2 (no championship game that first year). We started 0-2 and ripped off 10 straight wins.
Bleh, I've always been torn between #VT4SEC and #goacc, but I'm very biased. On one hand, I feel the ACC is far too heavy handed with teams that aren't in blue, but who's to say that it's not the same case for the SEC and Bama/LSU? On the other, I LOVE what the ACC does for Olympic sports as a whole, even if swimming in the SEC is FAR better than the ACC. What I've always been weary of, however, is how much can change in a period of 10 years. 10 years ago, Miami, FSU and VT were going to make this league the best, but that didn't happen. People seem to only remember the last several years, and forget that league power is more often than not, cyclical. Most major conferences had held their time in the limelight, and multiple times. I love what the SEC brings RIGHT NOW, but also still truly believe that with FSU, Clemson, UNC, and VT (and yes, maybe even Miami in a few years) that we can be a very VERY good conference. It's just a matter of relinquishing power on behalf of the Blue Bloods, and realizing that Football is not only the wave of the future, but also advantageous to the overall success of Basketball as well. Not to mention, in the PUREST of ACC Elitist statements, that I'm a fan of the academic profile being in the ACC has brought us.
Evil Emperor John Swofford was heard whispering, "The native are restless...all are according to the plan."
+1 for that, BUT, I would much rather ESPN keep their slimy hands off Bitter. I like how he reports without bias and offer perspective since he came from the SEC.
I'm starting to think that Beamer needs to quit spotting the starters points and see if they fight back. Gayle's comment in Bitter's blog, "I thought it would be a cake work [cake walk, he meant]..." was very telling. That is the wrong mindset in the first place.
When Logan first took the snap in the first spring game as the full-time starter, I was watching him because I had my doubt, but once he hit Marcus Davis in stride, my doubt vanished. The difference between that spring game and the Saturday ones? They mixed and matched the 1st and 2nd unit guys to see what happens. The result? Maroon dominated the White team with Danny Coale on the White team, if I remember right.
I didn't liked the format. I didn't liked the introduction to all the players, taking up needless times, and the only highlight I had was "Enter Sandman." That was all before the first snap.
I think the team would be better served next year to just slug it out like always, earn the points and the win. Maybe, just maybe we can get better sense than Saturday where everybody were going, "WTF?"
and as French said to me during the game, "at least he's not Scot Demler"
Hearing Demler's name gave me the jibblies...in fact it gave me the jibbly jibblies

There were no headsets so they were getting the next play and then going back to the huddle.

silly goose...I'm sure he along with 90% of the rest of us know what TOTS is...he asked if it was at TOTS which I think it was near it not exactly sure where though
