A lot of my negative opinion comes from sticking around. A few of us want to try and turn the band around next year, so we've stayed through all the bullshit. As far as this thread goes, we'll just have to disagree on where it's appropriate to make jokes.
I only commented 3 times for the hell of it and I found the sheer number of downvotes entertaining. Downvotes don't matter all that much to me. Some of us just get really bored between classes.
Perceived. Meaning your opinion. In reality, my comment wasn't meant to be racist, I was trying to satirize UVA's elitist mindset and the fact that Thomas Jefferson was known to take certain liberties with his slaves.
you really need to chill with the political correct thing. There's a difference in not being political correct and crossing the line. "Having a Black head coach goes really far with these kids parents" isn't politically correct but it's still tasteful and was appropriate for the context of the convo. "Since we're being racist, UVA only has a black head coach because the guy is a descendant of Thomas Jefferson" is neither politically correct or tasteful and just crosses the line. If you start out a comment by saying "since we're being racist" don't expect mature, educated people to appreciate it.
And for somebody calling everybody else sensitive, I think three comments because of downvotes qualifies as you being overly sensitive. Just be smarter next time or deal with the downvotes. No hard feelings, just expressing myself.
I think Weaver saw the declining ticket sales and alumni donations from last year and would rather believe it had to do with scheduling problems than what it really was; Angry fans tired of a coaching staff wasting talent.
IME, "assholes" pretty much covers it
I think a lot of my opinion on HTs comes from my cadre, my interactions(especially living in monteith my senior year) and being in Kilo where a lot of the "cynical assholes" defected to because they got tired of the rest of the HTs.
I'm just saying as an alumni of the university and the corps, leave it in the dorms and not on the message boards.
The HTs have a bad name because on the whole they're socially awkward and have much too high an opinion of themselves, especially when compared to the MVs, who are far superior in pretty much every aspect. There are a small minority of us that are just cynical assholes who have a knack for offending the overly sensitive because political correctness is an outrageous concept.
Just, genius.

If last year serves as a precursor to this year, then unfortunately it will be an empty Saturday night. Last year NC State dumped Tech by 20 or so if I recall correctly and Tech missed the NIT by a game. This year will no realistic shot at even the CBI, I doubt fans will show up for a Saturday 8 p.m. game. I hope I am proven wrong because Cassell is much more fun to be in when it is packed and rockin. Plus Erick needs to be sent off with some love.
But, at least one positive came from this, we learned that there are more people who hate race jokes on TKP than the number of fans at UVA's spring game.
There is a reason why HT's have such a bad name around campus. remember you wear the uniform no matter what time of day it is or where you are.
Forget the whole race card. I think this is the reason they pipeline to UVA. Because London acknowledges them, where Beamer co might not. And these guys think they are persons to be acknowledged and get offended if they are not.
Edit: corrected misspelling (affended-->offended). Didn't want to look like an idiot for longer than I had to.

you're right macraw you do see way worse stuff all over the interwebs, but do we want to see it on tkp?
Have you seen the photos from Weaver's press conference?

I had forgotten, we still pulled in Deon Newsome from Hampton this year, recruited by Stiney.
And not to mention, we have a huge connection in Tyrod Taylor, and Tyrel Wilson has another year to show what he can do.
Pretty sure Tyrod Taylor made a Thursday game in Lane once, can't remember if it was his junior or senior year at Hampton
Maybe that's why Beamer handled the "firings" the way he did - So we wouldn't tarnish some of the relationships we have. It's easier to keep Newsome on our side by finding him a job, instead of showing him the door and telling him he's on his own. Maybe Newsome can still be an advocate for us/Beamer in terms of Hampton High.
Kids are allowed to miss school. Especially when a huge decision regarding their future is at hand. I don't really see missing a day or two of school as a huge problem. Plus, I went to HS with Percy Harvin and trust me, teachers go out of their way to help these kids. I think a lack of Thursday night game hurts our recruiting efforts more than it helps.
Newsome and Smith are friends from when Newsome was the coach at Kecoughtan High.
Now that he's gone again, who knows if we'll still get in the front door at Hampton.
honestly, the downvote got misused the day it was implemented, just saying
and yea, pretty much what dude above me said as for the racist joke
...were the reason Cornell was selected to replace Newsome in recruiting this area.
There was always some rumor that a VT coach disrespected the Thoroughbreds early on. Maybe that was Newsome, maybe it was Stiney, maybe it was Cav. It certainly would fit the Cav model. But maybe Cornell can start to mend that relationship.
Remember, this was a similar situation to Mike Smith a decade ago, he sent everyone to UVA or UNC and wouldn't consider VT for his players. We eventually won him over. Just gotta keep the same approach. Do what we do and respect what these guys do. They fill a valuable role in that community.

I really liked his HS tape. He looks really really fast, not sure how well he is adapting to the scheme though.
Another note, I think kick/punt returns should feature him, Mangus, JCC, and Knowles. I know Jarrett was great on punt returns but I get a little scared with an every down player returning
