It appears you've offended at least 9 people.

While I'm not sure this rant deserves a -9, I can see where people are coming from. Hokie stone is something that makes our architecture extremely unique. Besides, trying to put a bunch of modernized buildings around campus in the middle of the old-school collegiate Gothic architecture would completely wreck the feel of the campus, IMHO. I think the school has done a pretty good job so far of making the newer buildings look modernized without losing that "Hokie" feel and a really big part of that is the generous use of Hokie stone. But what do I know? I'm just a humble engineer.

I totally agree. Love to see each tech recruiter develop ties to a "tech pipeline" team from each recruiting area. Those teams become the 7-on-7 all star teams for that region and it builds from there. Tech hosting 7-on-7 tourneys would also be clutch. Loluva already has one of these teams in their pocket. They're on the cutting edge of this new recruiting strategy and it may be that traditional high school recruiting will go the way of the dinosaurs. I don't know. But my heart says that tech really needs to look at getting in on this game.

Losing Blanding is definitely a loss but if you look at how his recruiting went we (or anyone else) were never a candidate. The guy had a ton of big name offers but never took visits and committed very early in the process. It's evident he was a UVA lean all the way, and when I say lean, I mean like 75-80 degree lean. Not a 15-20 degree lean lol. Hopefully we can land Hand and a couple other big name guys to combat.

I had posted on twitter that Blanding being a thoroughbred was a risky get for UVA. I then tried explaining to some random UVA fan what I meant by it being risky and explaining what the thoroughbreds were. Next thing I know I'm getting called a racist idiot. I don't understand where that came from.

From what I understand, these guys are recruited through the 7 on 7 coaches and not their high school coaches. I don't know what the NCAA thinks about that, but I think Tech wants to recruit through the high school coaches. The 7-7 coaches don't want that and downplay Tech for that reason and that's the reason we never get these guys.

That's just what I've read/understood. If I'm wrong then let me know!

Furthermore, we are passionate Hokie fans that passionately dislike (hate's a strong word but feel free to plug that in instead) loluva so some Hokie fans felt disrespected that the kid Cutler didn't want to come to blacksburg (even though I don't think we really wanted him to or maybe it was more of a uva got him so we have to rag on him kind of deal) and took to message boards and social networks to 1. disrespect kid Cutler 2. disrespect uva 3. try to investigate why father Cutler and the thoroughbreds have the connections they have (aka implicate ncaa infractions).

They didn't like the negativity they received and didn't appreciate the infraction implications, plus it's the guy's son which tends to make emotions stronger, so yea every action has a reaction. It sucks for now but it will blow over eventually. It just made our recruiters jobs that much tougher but not every talented 757'er has connections with the thoroughbreds so it's not the end of the world. Plus uva sucks and these kids will see that.

Nobody said he got the recruits simply because he's black. I took the comment as saying him being black helps his cause and I think we can all agree that it doesn't hurt.

It's unfair to say that IS the reason (which the comment doesn't say) but when a black head coach sits in their living room and says "I understand the struggle and I want your kid to come to uva to make something out of his life and I will help him do that," it resonates more because there is a level of empathy that they probably can't get from a white coach. I'm not saying a black head coach would be the main reason I would want my future kid to go to a particular school, but it would be a plus for said head coach. However, if it was me and my future child, I would tell London to get the hell out of my house because he sucks as a coach.

But don't take my opinion as definitive truth as I can't speak for all of black America. Just offering perspective as a black key player.

Lastly, I think the 'London being a descendant of Jefferson' comment was much more racist. That's speaking directly about slavery, not cool.

Which is why the comment is inappropriate. "UVA's getting all those recruits because London is black" diminishes all the other work that London puts into recruiting that area. He has to go in and convince those parents that he is a good coach, that the program is heading in the right direction.

Frank Beamer never got a recruit simply because he was white, and Mike London never got a recruit simply because he was black.

The Thoroughbreds coaches didn't wake up one day and start ragging on Tech for the fun of it. They are pushing these kids towards UVA for a reason, and if it was a cash reason... we would have evidence by now.

No, those coaches are establishing a relationship with UVA because UVA welcomed them with open arms. By having a relationship with UVA, the Thoroughbreds get greater "street cred" then their competitors. The Thoroughbreds have to recruit too, and do you want your son (who needs national exposure to get recruited) playing for some dude-living-up-the-street's squad, or the squad that has had multiple four (or higher) star athletes go on to play big-time college ball?

Quid pro quo. Thoroughbreds became the top dogs in their arena because they became an established pipeline program, and IN RETURN UVA gets top pick of their best athletes. This may or may not be unethical, but it's impossible to prosecute. You think the top high school programs in VA don't have athletes locating to their district to get better noticed by college coaches? "Scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" is as old as time itself, and only rarely does it need to involve cash

Look, this is the way it's going to be. The NCAA may get involved in 7 on 7 teams in the future, but I doubt it. What is it going to do, make an athlete ineligible for playing on an amateur 7 on 7 team?

Back when Groh was coach, it was easy to blow these regional players off.

That's not the case anymore. Frank and co. can't just show up and deal with the good ol' boy coaching network and get who they want. They need to look at the recruiting landscape, realize that these type of squads are here to stay, and look at it as just another recruiting responsibility.

Start holding 7 on 7 tournaments at Tech, start keeping in touch with 7 on 7 coaches, start showing up at tournaments where VA recruits travel too

Tech can't bury it's head and hope this trend reverses itself.

It may be to late to get these coaches back on VT's side, but I promise you, they won't be the last 7 on 7 super squad that shows up in VA. And the next one better start feeling the love from Tech early and often, or Tech will miss out on those athletes too.

How did this happen though? We used to have very good ties with the coaches down there with the exception of Mike Smith for a long time and Richard Morgan for a few years. What happened that we are having a hard time in the 757?

The coaches have some sort of vendetta against us.

thanks for the assist, sounds like hes really getting into recruiting thats a very positive sign lets let these young energetic coaches loose!

How can Seth Curry make the final 30? Compare Green to Curry...........
Pts per game. Rebounds. Assists. Turnovers. Steals

Green. 25.2. 4.1. 4.1 2.0. 1.4
Curry. 16.8. 2.2. 1.6. 1.3 0.8

Plus, Curry is covered by one player during the game. Green is stalked by the entire opposing team everywhere he goes. How can Curry even be considered for this award when in the big game a few weeks ago when Duke played Miami to see if Miami was for real and to see if Duke could catch Miami in the standings, Curry went 0 for 10 shooting, scored Zero points and his team got blasted by 27 points. I realize Curry will not win it, but to have him in the final 30 and Green not be there is a joke........We need to go out and block a punt!

I believe that Stiney is on that side of the water with some help from Cornell it seems (who by the way had some interesting tweets today about recruiting)

cornell is our primary recruiter in the 757 right? i assume its going to take time to repair these anti vt feelings that some of these coaches have in that area, but with the amount of talent they are churning out we really need to get on this now

Friend of mine w/ higher priority is going to get the tickets so we can sit in a group instead of each getting our own scattered and we are going for the $90 lower level tickets. There can be up to 8 tickets for one application.

The prices right now are $130 club seats, $90 lower level, $85 Mezz, and $60 for upper. I had upper level tickets back in 2009 and they weren't that bad but I definitely think its worth the extra cash to go lower. I imagine student tickets might be around the same of having the option for $60 for upper level.

Should be a full audience for hopefully one of the biggest upsets in college football. There will be more people at Alabama's spring game than there is capacity at the GA Dome. Don't think the secondary market will be kind to people but I could be wrong.

Maybe weaver knows its whats best for us, and made the decision despite knowing everyone will hate him for it. Maybe because he's the hero blacksburg deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

The stadium over-all wasn't too bad. I was there two years ago when Auburn thumped UVA in the Chik-fil-a bowl (Try being the only Hokie surrounded by Hoo's AFTER we demolished them 38-0 just a few weeks earlier...the reception wasn't friendly.. and YES...I was donning my VT gear very proudly)

I don't think it would be too bad to save some monies and buy the nose bleeds, I'll probably stick the middle range as far as pricing goes myself.

I've never been to the Georgia Dome. How awful are the nosebleed seats? Is it worth the money to get the lower level seats?

My dad's season ticket renewal is how we'll be getting our tickets, so my friends and I need to decide soon how much we're willing to spend...

I'm black and I don't have a problem with the comment. It's true after all. My only issue is that black or not, he sucks. I would want my kid to go to a good coach, whether that coach is black or white.
