I had Real Estate Law on the thursday night of the BC game in 07. Teacher made it optional, extra credit if you showed up. It was a 3pm-4pm class. I basically walked from my tailgate to class (which was in Engel Hall next to West End), filled up a poweraid bottle with "power aid" and sat in class and got my extra cred. He ended class early and it was back to the parking lot. Alot of other students in that class had the same idea. ha

They didn't even have lights in their stadium until 2010 or 2011. New AD took over in 2010, said "LET THERE BE LIGHTS", and then in September of 2011 they played Notre Dame.

It's kind of hard for ESPN to schedule a night game if they don't have lights.

were usually really cool about it. One made his 8:00 am optional (which I went to because I loved the class/material) while the others would simply either cancel or let us out halfway through. I would be back at my friends' (later my) place on Center St. by 12:30 drinking a pre-tailgate beer. I only had one professor who had class with no alteration (my freshman year vs Maryland). I took a "long bathroom break" during the last 20 minutes of class. Funny how I ended up back at my dorm instead of the class...

I think #1 is already happening. We've been seeing games every night from Tuesday through Friday now for a few years now, at least later in the season. That is just going to continue. And besides, I think Wake is hosting Presbyterian or someone on a Thursday night this year, which is ridiculous.

As far as #2 goes, I agree on some points, but it really goes both ways. On the one hand, it kind of sucks to have to take off work. I did that the year I lived in Chicago, the Thursday was one of only two games I made it to. On the other hand, I was able to turn it into an extended weekend trip, and spent the entire weekend in Blacksburg, including all day Friday, which was nice.

And the weather, it's kind of a crapshoot. There have been a couple Thursday games with terrible weather, but there have been so many more on Saturdays. It doesn't really matter when they're played, because it's Blacksburg. The weather is likely to suck.

I always believe that it's going to be Tech's year in the upcoming season no matter what. Call me overly optimistic, an idiot, I don't care...

This is our year. Every year. Until we lose. Then I start thinking of scenarios where it could still be our year.

When I wrote the first part of this last week, I didn't expect it to receive the attention that it did. And then, today, to receive so many comments in the first two hours it was posted...

Thanks for the support! If you keep reading, I'll keep writing!

Thanks for the response. Good to know he added some weight. Stick figure is a great way to describe the Manning of last year. That added weight will certainly help his campaign.

the 50+ were the ones that ultimately complained the most about Thursday night games. I was told at last years Thursday night game it might be our last here in blacksburg for a few years. some were a little tired of games starting at 9 and not ending to after 11, then leaving and not arriving back at home until the the early morning hours for the ones that travel after games. this group of people is also some of your main donors, and we know how weaver likes looking at black numbers. this was a money decision to keep a inflow of money after a poor year. This had nothing to do with class or on-campus clearing conflicts. Just trying to keep the money paying people happy. I know most of us are money paying people, but is this really going to keep you from getting season tickets or coming to noon games(didn't think so.) Weaver knows this about his most loyal fans(TKP nation among others.)This was a decision that was very thought out and not a spare of the moment type deal.

So, if you want to send a message, don't buy season tickets. I don't see that happening though

Who knows, it could be both of them still battling for the spot when August 31st rolls around. Of course, we would rather have that decision solidified by that point, but if the competition is neck-and-neck all through Spring -- which it very well could be -- it's a possibility we see both of them play vs. Bama.

Good point. But with two playmakers coming in, even if they're freshmen, I think that Manning might get relegated to the responsibility of giving Kendall/Antone/Cequan/Whoever It Is a breather when they need it.

We'll get to see it all play out in the next few months. And this is why I love Spring.

I agree, there are way too many students like that. I love going to football games here, as a lifelong Tech fan it feels like a honor to be allowed to pay $60 and go to 6 games at Lane per year. I wish more people would feel that way.

As for the Thursday night game, I think what sucks the most is that it's my Senior year, so coming back for those Thursday nighters could be tough depending on where I'm working after college. I just wanted to see Lane at night one more time before I left. I guess there's only one solution, #BeatBama and root for UNC to be 4-0 when they play us.

Didn't Michigan have a really long streak of no night games? Backwards, but similar situation. Also different conference, traditions, etc.

Thursday tickets, then one year (2005, maybe?) it was a marquee matchup and he decided to go. He hasn't missed one since, and is kinda pissed we don't have one this year.

I can't imagine most of Hokie Nation feels much differently about them.

but I do feel good that our defense is very experienced and most of these players have gone through this again and again. Tyler, Fuller, Exum (by then?), Gayle, Maddy, Skip, Collins, Jarrett.....those guys have been through this drill multiple times now

He did community service with us during last season and checks back in every now and then, plus I see him on campus. He is bigger than the stick figure he was last year. I think he will play in the 175 or 180 range this year, which is was 155 at most last year.

I think Weaver lied. I think Weaver went by his gut feeling and that's the same gut feeling that led to the firing of Seth Greenberg. I think he has completely lost his mind.

And we had to turn homework in. Needless to say, most of the class took a zero on that assignment.
