I hate this year's schedule, but I like what it sets up for my senior year. GT, Miami AND UVA at home? I guess I can only complain so much..
Clemson in 2010?
Look on the brightside! We get to play Boston College up at Chestnut Hill again!
I wish the stadium did the Old Hokie cheer in unison at some point during the game. Does anyone know if this used to be a consistent part of the gameday experience? Literally the only time I ever heard it at VT was during freshman orientation. I think it's a great cheer and we don't seem to utilize it at all. Honestly I was confused when it was featured on an ESPN Gameday commercial a few years back since I never heard it on campus.
Look at the schedules A&M and Mizzou got. You think the SEC would gift-wrap a cake schedule to VT?
We better hope for that game-losing GT interception that happened a few times recently.
Yeah, we had our chances in the 1st half in 09. We had the ball, what 3 times on the GT side of the field and came away with 3 points. The D played damned good in the 1st half. Take care of business in the 1st half we win that game.
But GT's offense needs more than 1 home run threat. David Sims is the only legitimate threat on the offensive side of the ball for them. Besides, saying Lee has a good arm is like saying Oregon has a good punter. They may get used, but it's not going to be their first choice and it's not expected to produce incredible results.
Foster had an entire offseason to prepare for them. Bud tried to play it cool and act like he didn't spend a ton of time with them focusing specifically on that offense, but Jack Tyler let the cat out of the bag when he talked about just how much time he and Foster spent watching tape to get his reads right.
Unless the Offense has a dramatic improvement under Loeffler (and it might), I would be very, very worried about this game. GT is going to be a problem this year for everyone in the ACC.
Vad Lee is a much bigger home run threat then Tevin ever was. And he has a better arm, strength and accuracy wise.
Tevin really lowered the ceiling on that offense, because he had zero home run threat with his legs. Lee could easily dominate in that offense, especially if he can make the correct reads. Count on him taking the next step this year.
Well that just makes me want Jim Weaver to be gone even more.
The reaction I've seen from current students on Facebook and Twitter, while negative, has been amusing. It's quite ironic to see people who could care less about the team and just want to "hang out with their friends" or pregame before going DT or to a date party complaining about the schedule and lack of Thursday night games. Some people just don't understand the value of being able to go to those games for 4 (or more) years as a student. The funniest part is that they say they want the price of tickets to go down because of the poor schedule. If I had tickets for $10 a game, I'd be pretty damn happy about it personally.
I'm worried since we play GT during the short week. That offense gives us fits, even when we play defense against it like the last two years. 2009 still haunts me (even though Bad Tech forfeited that season).
That actually makes me feel better about the situation, but it still kinda sucks.
I'd die as soon the scoreboard hit zero.
So was the decision to ban stick it in
For what it is worth, I heard the decison not to have a Thursday night home game was made by Tech.
Our only chance at a night game in Lane is if Duke or Maryland are undefeated and so are we going into that game and we get kicked to a Primetime spot because of it. To end, no night game this year :(
booooooooo
this is our punishment for a bad season? Either that or HD wrote the schedule.

2005 Miami and UNC were Saturday night kickoffs at home as was 2003 Miami. Also 2006 Southern Miss was a 7 pm kick surprisingly (I thought it was and had to check- ESPN U). Duke was at 5 pm on a Saturday in 2008 (odd time) In terms of this decade, I don't think we've had one at home. We've had plenty on the road since 2004 (BC in 2006, NC State in 2005, Miami/Wake also in 2006, Nebraska in 2008, and Wake in 2011) but our home night games have been sparse for sure since 2004. Here's to hoping that both us and UNC are playing great football by that week so maybe we can get the ESPN U night slot...
Also, they could help us out by bolting to another conference...

Clemson came to the Burg in 2011, sat night kick. I think we lost 24-3 or something like that. THen lost rematch in ACC title game.
