Exactly. Lost in the posting about territories was the comment Frank/Stiney made about Scot and Grimes spot recruiting for their positions. When you have a QB coach as highly regarded as Loefler it makes tons of sense. And for a position like OL, which is so hard to evaluate and coach, it makes a lot of sense if a guy who knows that position (OL) coach is invovled heavily. And, as Grimes said, OL have abit of a different mindset than most football players and it really helps to have an OL guy recruit/coach them.... I think it will work great.
..is part of the attack, it's great. Ask Colin Kapernick or RG3. Or LT in 2011.
but when nothing else is working and you are banging your QB's head against UVA's DL all day, it's not really a "mobile QB" offense as much as it is survival of the fittest.
But part of the last few years was that our Offensive coaches were at the end of their rope. Demoralized and lacking vision. It will be exciting to see how Loeffler uses the mobile QB's we have.
But it sure as hell wouldn't bother me to find some pocket passers who can burn a blitz like a great point guard burns a press.
Look, I'm not saying it will be a huge advantage that will be the deciding factor as to whether we win the game or not, but I don't see how anyone, that knows the preparation factor of football, can say it's not an advantage at all. That's just crazy to me. There's years worth of tape on our previous offense, our previous philosophy, formations, patterns within formations, tendencies in certain down and distances, position keys, etc. You can't tell me one of the best coaches in college football history doesn't study these things and come prepared for gameday. It's clearly an advantage if he can't draw from his bank of information and accurately predict what we'll do. He's still Saban and they're still Bama so I know they'll come prepared, but like I said I'll take any advantage I can get and I 100% think this is an advantage for us.
And you're right about the new season factor (in terms of making coaches changes or not) but teams still do most of the same things they've done in the previous seasons; There's not a change in philosophy with each offseason. So I think we'll be a bit more unpredictable due to our coaching changes and I think that will help us out. But you're entitled to your opinion so I won't keep this going. Go Hokies, see you in Atlanta.
Awwww, I miss Macho. He was so much fun to watch
Alabama has been known to recruit from the land of the giants
this article gets me excited about Hand and our chances of landing him

If I'm not mistaken, the I-81 corridor runs from eastern Pennsylvania (bordering New Jersey) down to Tennessee where it breaks off into I-40. That mean, there's a shit load of prospects up and down the corridor, plus, if anybody recommends a lineman to Grimes, he gets to recruit the fella.
AND...prep schools? That's where the best of the best are, and that's how Notre Dame and other schools have been able to recruits. Sounds like the mindset are slowly changing.
TRANSLATION: Jeff Grimes and Scott Loefller will be spot recruiting the Offensive Linemen and QBs that they want, regardless of location.
Well that's not a factor of having a lot of game tape on Loeffler at Tech. That's a factor of having a decent offensive scheme.
You act as those there isn't any tape on Loeffler. Look at what he did at Temple, look at what he did at Auburn, and then look at what Beamer has said he wants to do on offense and what Beamer teams have done the past decade. Saban will be plenty prepared for whatever Loeffler throws at him. There won't be any surprises.
Plus, even if Tech hadn't made any staffing changes, Tech would have a different game plan than last year. The scheme would have been changed in the off season because of how terrible it was. Being the first game of the season, Saban will have to deal with the same amount of unpredictability as normal.
how about nothing?
can't argue with that.
Or nothing...
wearing anything!
I hope there are still tickets available
once did that in his room in Vawter for a party (I think it was around this time of year, in fact)....replete with a palm tree (borrowed from my room) and sand (yeah, it was messy).

I knew I forgot someone.
It doesn't have to be innovative to be effective. If he doesn't automatically know what we are going to run once we get into a certain formation, then it's an unknown to him. Unknowns are good in this situation.
It's not like he didn't want to sign. I'm pretty sure he can't sign right now since he hasn't officially been cleared and from the sound of it, the problem goes back to his High School grades. So while it is a bummer, it's something we knew about when he didn't enroll in January.

This makes me want him even if he wasn't a highly touted recruit.
