Was Fred offense or defense? I can honestly say I don't remember this kid at all. He had a pretty solid name, too bad he didn't pan out.

If he was a D he could've been FredLeeing people...

19 year old senior in high school. Must be lcypherin good down thar.

Well all he had in his stomach is cheese and crackers

Problem is, a lot of folks rely on insider info and the Rivals insiders migrated to 247 last year because, IMHO, they got tired of being taken to task when their predictions were wrong.

Personally I could care less about insider info - I like Rivals for the database and top level view of how we are doing relative to the other teams.

I went to high school with Deveon. I wish he would have had his head on straight and actually made it to Blacksburg. He would have been a beast for Bud!

What a great finish. Anytime WV can go down and cry is good to me.

I thought Rivals was pretty good at getting the insight of the player. I stopped subscribing because the VT recruiting cycle during my time (close to 10 years) was:
1) top players in VA as juniors list VT as a top 5 school, grew up loving them.
a)VT wins ten games or more
2) top players in VA now seniors, VT listed as a top 5 school
a)VT having a decent season, could be another BCS bowl game
b)top players interested in VT, visits VT and other schools
c)top recruits no longer interested in VT, heading out of state to become another number at a brand name school, but that's ok because there's this HS junior from VA that is really interested in VT, and probably better anyway - we'll be fine.
3) repeat steps 1 and 2.

So if recruiting cycle doesnt change with the new coaches, probably twitter and tkp is all you need. I liked that I knew so much more about the VT players though (background/personality), and that was through the pay articles on Rivals. Instead of, "who the hell is that guy?" it was "that guy is a pisces, likes chinese food, ran for 6000 yards in 3 seasons and he hates UVA as much as I do".

This would rank second for me right after Shane's FG in Morgantown. I remember jumping out of my seat after I noticed Coale was wide open and getting cheese on my leg from my nachos - great moment in Lane.

I was there and I was 12 years old. After Shane made the FG some guy picked me up that was behind me and started swinging me around. It was great. Undoubtedly the best moment I've wittnessed in VT football.

And Jones also had that awesome dis of PSU right before picking us. Classic.

Usually, Bud and his staff takes kids from under the radar and turns them into stars. I am excited to see what he can do with kids that are already considered among the best.

I think the Ravens miracle run stops at the SuperBowl...but who knows, one can hope.

Btw, am I the only Hokies/Cowboys fan around here?!

Wow most of those are offensive players. Then you get to 2013 and all defensive players

Here's a list of every Rivals 100 player that VT has landed since 2001. It's worth noting that the 2001 rankings come from scouring Google. The rest are all listed on the Rivals.com database.

2001
Kevin Jones (No. 1)
Fred Lee (No. 80)
Bryan Randall (No. 80)

2002
Marcus Vick (No. 8)

2005
Macho Harris (No. 28)
Deveon Simmons (No. 93)

2007
Tyrod Taylor (No. 27)

2008
Ryan Williams (No. 47)

2009
David Wilson (No. 40)
Logan Thomas (No. 71)

2012
Joel Caleb (No. 84)

2013
Kendall Fuller (No. 9)
Wyatt Teller (No. 59)
Holland Fisher (No. 83)

Fuller is the first top 10 player headed to Virginia Tech since Marcus Vick in 2002.

While there are some notable exceptions (Lee, Simmons), most of these players were very productive/stars at VT. Also worth noting that the Hokies have landed as many Rivals 100 players in the past two years as they did in the previous six combined.

weve gotta finish strong. this is a really good class coming in if we can sign everyone. itd be a great way to start 2013 right. i still feel like we need to push hard for fisher simply because bama was after him. i love the fact the new coaches are already out there recruiting its a good sign of things to come

Twitter and TKP is all ya need braj. Just use rivals to browse the high school players and their interests. But i dont subscribe to either. If you want highlight films of the high school players most of them are on the youtubes.

I have thought of joining Hokie Haven in the past but i find its just as informative to look at ESPN and TKP. But i dont follow recruiting like a hawk i only pay attention to the VA and the top 100 recruits VT goes after.
