This isn't my favorite moment, but it definitely sticks out thanks to the douche bag fsu fans in front of me that thought the game was over after we blew the 14 point lead, but we came back to win 41-20. I will never forget the 3rd and 31 play
UVA could get a 5 star to sign... I mean, would you while in your right mind?
"Taquan Mizzell is one of the top running back recruits in the country, and last weekend he took an official visit to Virginia, which he committed to in August. Now, official visits are generally used to try to convince a recruit to come to that school by giving him a feel for the place. And while fun can certainly be had on an official visit, too much fun can be had as well, and while Mizzell was on his official visit over the weekend he had a too much fun.
A Charlottesville police spokesman confirmed Monday that Virginia Beach running back Taquan Mizzell was arrested on charges of underage possession of alcohol on Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m., on the 100 block of 14th Street near campus. An officer spotted Mizzell, 19, standing in the middle of the street trying to kick a moving vehicle, Lt. Ronnie Roberts said, before determining Mizzell had been drinking.
This is an embarrassing situation for Mizzell -- and for Virginia, I'm sure -- but he's a 19-year-old kid. I don't blame him, because 19-year-old kids do stupid things all the time. However, if I'm Virginia coach Mike London, I might have a talk with any Virginia player(s) responsible for hosting Taquan for the weekend. They should know better by now."
The full article is here.
I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering about who was hosting the kid. I wonder if 'ol Mikey is.
since he doesn't have a job anymore but he is an attorney. Also, he is selling his orange pants if anyone needs any~ maybe put it on the Hoo grapevine. It might match the orange jumper suits. They had use for a lot of those at Tennessee, also.
Bradshaw ended up spending 2 summers in jail in Abingdon in the Regional Jail after he went to the Giants for what happened when he was briefly at UVA. He abruptly "ran" and went to Marshall and never showed up to face the charges in court. A little bit of scandal at the Jail, he was getting lots of extra food and exercise time and actually bulked up a little more. They were letting people that they knew come in and get autographs; leaked out to the press and no one wanted to talk about it but it still raised a big ole stink. The Bristol Herald Courier wrote a piece about it.
But Rivals last year had an article showing where they rated the 1st round picks when they were in high school.

Also I think Bill Connelly has shown there's a pretty strong correlation between recruiting success and wins, though I don't have the articles in front of me at the moment.
EDIT- found the article from 2010. Most of the data is in ESPN Insider articles linked in the story but the free version is useful. I thought he updated it since then.

himself for the commit to UVA~
I always justified it pretty simply. The Big Boy programs (which includes about 9 SEC programs) have more money. The more money you have, the more kids your recruiters can evaluate. The more money you have, the better you can pay your evaluators. The better you pay your evaluators, the better they are at their job. When the best evaluators observe the most kids, the kids they offer are better. The better offers, thus, are from the Big Boy programs. The kids with the most Big Boy offers are the best players and get ranked higher.
The fact that the Big Boy programs have more subscriptions is a self-fulfilling prophecy. They have more money in their program because they have more fans and they have more fans because they win more and they win more because they have more money.
Great writing!! You remind me of the Great Dave Barry....(which incidentally, would be a great name for a rock band!....fans of DB will get that).
I have a friend who is a Cville cop & works the corner regularly...I have to talk to him and see what he knows about the Mizzell incident. That should be good for a laugh. Who knows, he might have been the arresting officer.
Exum is really starting to make me believe he might be as good as his potential next year.
The Les Miles Zone would also be a great name for a rock band!
Looking forward to next weeks TWTW!
tweet in a conversation between Matthew Neal and Aaron Moorehead:
Matthew Neal @mneal25
@Amo8685 Welcome to Blacksburg. And for the love of God, if you can get our WR's to block down field you'll be a fan favorite. Immediately.
Aaron Moorehead Aaron Moorehead @Amo8685
@RickRakes @mneal25 I can say very confidently that blocking will not be an issue!
Now I'm psyched! (Sorry I couldn't get it to show up in those nice little twitter boxes....html challenged here)

Thanks for the info. I'm sure this has been done (perhaps even here) but I wonder what the fail rate is on 4 and 5 star prospects, or even just those in the rivals 100. I would assume that the success rate (meaning they actually start at some point in their career) would be relatively high. I know we are some huge stat fans on the site, might be a cool project to make up for this gap between the coaching staff apocalypse and spring practice.
The TSL guru situation has been stable the past couple of years. They post fairly infrequently. I think the 2010-11 recruiting seasons left a few of them bruised and beaten.
I think one of the key goals of the 247 guys is to rate our prospects better. Their selling point has been 'Rivals caters to the big programs and downgrades our prospects to make theirs look better.' I would expect any VT class to be ranked higher in 247 than they were in Rivals.
I heard UVA has a good law school. Maybe he can consult them if he gets into any more future mishaps..
I was thinking the same thing.

Fisher is ours, as long as he qualifies. I've heard a lot of rumblings as to whether he will be able to get into Tech based on grades/scores, though. Fingers crossed he can get his stuff squared away.
The ole' Dick Dick.
I really liked our 4th quarter comeback win in 2004 on the road @ GT. I remembered i was sick in bed in the dorms with mono and still had enough energy to scream my head off with that comback B Randle had in him. Josh Hyman with that sweat diving catch in the endzone, and Eddie Royals huge TD.
Now that i think of it that whole 2004 season had alot of great memories...
Didn't he have a similar run in while in C-ville on a visit and then ended up at Marshall?
This is huge i think to land this kid. If Loeffler can aid in Logan Thomas' progress to the NFL and we can land this kid and be successful, I think it will open the flood gates for these types of QBs where VT is a place for them to go and gain experience that helps them in the next level.
Hokie nation is shocking me right now!! I didn't think anyone could compete with the Michigan fan base?? #SayItAintSo #Wow— DC5 (@DavidCornwell5) January 23, 2013
Hokies making a good impression apparently... I'm getting excited.
TSL guru situation these days?
I've found less interest in the insiders views over the years as well, part of that is the summer commitments. Like this year, (knock on wood) there is no drama to be had in the next two weeks. What do you need insiders for?
Rivals database is solid, as is 247. Both have good national and conference rankings, and both of those are free. sportshoopla has some scuttlebutt and is a solid group of a dozen or so recruitniks who consolidate info. videos are on youtube.
Other than that, the whole subscription thing is tough to justify unless you are looking for true insider info. And I've seen the value of that info decrease tremendously over the years.
He was from PA and choose us over Michigan State. Then he didn't qualify, went to FUMA or Hargrave and eventually ended up at VT I think. But was never very good.
It's hard for me to keep him separate from Richard Johnson, another diminutive WR who was highly regarded but never panned out.
...this kids going to be good for business ....for us.

Thanks for the links; it's very interesting info. I guess I more wonder of the rivals 100, how many actually start and/or contribute to a team over a period of time.
On a funnier note, the rivals link under Weedon "Rivals didn't exist when Weedon was in high school" HAHA, he's ooooooooooooold
