Ask Nick Saban if ratings don't matter. He has had top recruiting classes for many years and it shows in AL's success.

VT has had success despite lower rated talent, which means better coaching. Other schools don't have as much success with better talent (USC?).

VT needs some better talent to win a NC since the competition has both talent and coaching.

Has any conversation happened with Bruce Arians? I know its the longest of long shots, but the guy is a Hokie (though he didn't play for Beamer), I would think we should at least reach out to him. Who knows, maybe the chance to help his alma mater would be more important to him than the NFL.

The situation at VT kinda reminds me of the fiasco we went thru at Denver at the time Mike Shanahan was on the hot seat to get fired. Rumors galore were spreading like wildfire and then things started to escalate. Shanahan was fired, Josh McDaniels came in, "fired" Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, Tony Sheffler, etc. Then Kyle Orton showed up and Tebow was drafted. Those were the most tumultuous years of my long-term Bronco fan mania starting way back when Craig Morton to Haven Moses were in town. I had never seen such a fan outburst, with equal numbers for and against what was rumored to be happening - that is until now with VT. I am hoping that an eventual return to glory is in store for VT such as with the Broncs with Manning, Decker, Thomas, etc and with Fox and Del Rio, McCoy coaching....We hit glory again this year until this past Saturday when at the end of the game and in OT, I swore Stinespring was upstairs in the box, going again to play not to lose rather than playing to win. Yes, a lot of anguish has pervaded the Burgs with the VT situation, but I gotta hope that glory will return just as soon as we get the right coaching and the right recruiting and players hungry enough to tear peoples' heads off. I get in many "discussions" with the wife about needing angry head coaches like Sabin, Meyer, etc. Give me a head coach and OC like Bud Foster does as DC and whip the players into a frenzy and kick ass. They instill a belief into the program and get all the Hokie Nation to buy into it and it is done without being inhumane to the players. Recruit to re-arm and not to rebuild.

Why you gotta go and get my hopes up like that. I may have just climaxed when I saw the title and then was immensely let down when I saw it wasn't for real yet.

he could continue their tradition. Their last coach Jay Mills was there 10 years and had a 48-63 record and nobody even tried to run him out of town. He has the most wins in school history. He has also had the most losses of any HC they have had in football. CSU has played Florida, Florida State, Miami, Kentucky, South Florida, Hawaii, and Illinois among others over the last decade and in their defense that has led to some of those losses. They played these Division I opponents for the added revenue. CSU won its first-ever Big South in 2005 and in 2006, won its first nine games en route to posting the nation's second-longest winning streak at 14 games. The 2006 team was nationally-ranked for the first time in school history, and finished with a school-record nine wins.

Eddie is starting to play a little bit better. I've been happy with how Raines and Barksdale have responded these last couple games but Brown is so terrible that he's holding us back.

Charleston Southern only has 8 wins in the last 3 years at the FCS level...they can't really afford to be picky. And while O'Cain has been a blah coach lately, he was a respectable 41-40 in his 7 years as head coach for NC State. This rumor certainly makes more sense than the App State rumor, at least App State has a good recent history.

I never said he was a good recruiter, I said he has recruiting ties. And coacing Charleston Southern is a big difference than Virginia Tech. This is not uncommon.

I'm hoping the win gets them out of their obvious funk. Lets get some swagger on the court!!

Good for him. Yes, glad to see him leaving VT but it would be good to see him rewarded for his time.

Yeah I forgot to add Brown in there too. Those three are our main scorers. Just wish we could have a presence in the paint. It just shows that our three main scorers are guards (Eddie pretty much plays as guard) and shooters. So if we struggle shooting, it's gonna be a LONG game. Even last year with Zo it was the same thing, although Davila was a pretty good presence down low. Even Wood when we get him back prefers to shoot than than post up. Last year all the close games we had with UNC, Duke, and UVA were games where we had high shooting percentages, especially from three. Until we can get some post presence, I just feel like the game depends on how we are shooting that day.

He never landed any solid recruits at Tech, though, and if you can't coach a position well that you've coached almost your entire coaching career, being a head coach isn't going to be much better.

Maybe. Some struggling FCS school could think it be worth it. They get a coach who has been at the top level.

For example, nfl coach ends up at FBS school and everyone is excited.

Gran espectaculo!

Always entertaining.

Baghdad Brian

Bucky doesn't get good extension either.

I wouldn't be shocked if he new OC brought in one of his own QB recruits this year. I dont love any of the QBs we have after LT.

When is Eddie, Brown, Raines and CJ gonna step up and help Green? The only one playing consistent is Green. If Eddie and Brown could contribute 10-15 pts each per game, things would look different......

Something obviously happened over the offseason that screwed him up. If the coaches don't fix it, that's their fault, and we all know how bad of a coach O'cain is.

Hopefully they realign the divisions, as everyone expects they will, the year UMD leaves and L'ville joins.
