I think the majority of the frustration is centered around students, not the alumni.
Students have tended to start leaving earlier and earlier, throwing stupid effing airplanes, not paying attention to the game, thinking its a social gathering not an avenue to cheer the team. I'm never more frustrated than homecoming games with the frats and sororities showing up in the 2nd quarter and leaving at halftime just to cheer their stupid friends on winning a stupid award.
I completely understand fans like you that need to leave early for real reasons. I think Hokie Nation appreciates the support from fans like you more than anyone.
In Long's best statistical year he had Adrian Peterson at tailback, who is arguably a better talent than anyone ever in Blacksburg.
Peterson's freshman season, which saw him finish second in Heisman voting, is the only time Long has ever had anything to do with an offense that finished in the top 30 nationally in rushing. Even Stinespring has done that (a top 30 rushing offense) three of the past four years.
Pep Hamilton would have been one of the biggest coup in VT's history. Anyone who actually thought Pep was a certainty doesn't realize that the Stanford OC job is much better than the VT one. The only reason he would be a serious candidate is if he really felt the need to live on the east coast. Obviously, Pep was intrigued, interviewed twice, but it doesn't surprise me in the least bit.
Everyone should just be glad that Beamer is doing the right thing, going through the process, and trying to find great candidates. Relax, and just know, the next OC probably won't be a sexy name, but if he can coach 1/2 as well Bud, this team will improve 10-fold.
Just a Summary of my day in bullet points:
•Woke up late thanks to my new alarm clock I got for Christmas that I apparently am not smarter than.
•Normal 45 minute commute.
•Get to work, spills coffee on desk.
•Ate chipotle for lunch which is usually an awesome treat until the subsequent detonation.
•On the way home I get rear ended by a girl on 664 in stop and go traffic. She does not stop. I call police. Show up two hours later and she managed her daring escape at 5 miles an hour. All was not lost, got her license. She's fucked.
•Get home, drop brand new bottle of bourbon.
•Read TKP, and now this shit.
However, I have still never had a bad day in my life. I would've probably punched a baby dolphin though.
FYI my take on Pep? Thought it was a pipe dream. Move too lateral, no direct ties, etc.
Hopefully Marcus can get out of jail in time to lead us to victory.
Over and out.

Even Tyrod and Ru wouldn't be able to do much unless we have a good O-Line... Which remains to be seen.
glasses!
Along with running up the score in the 4th, blitzing all night, and the Stick and Nod as the hot read in the hurry up.
Brilliant, sir. You win the internet.
We've had surpluses of talent on offense here, and never been in the top 30. Someone who can at least manage a talented offense is an improvement over what we have now, which is an incompetent staff that mostly gets in the way of the offense.
Other than that, I agree with all of your other points. He is obviously someone to look at, but there are probably better options out there.
We are known as a fast paced team but, that is in transition. If we get caught in a half court play based situation it seems that there are very few plays being ran if any. It still looks like last years stand around the 3 point line offense to me.
Yeah, I have those seats. Those don't really help. I'm sure there are some others out there that can relate. Not complaining, just putting it out there.
the hoos can keep jefferson.
I've seen different notes about who calls plays and has a more active OC role at Stanford. So with that conflicting info, I don't truly see his resume. Looking at pre-Stanford, it's really not that impressive. Not like he dominated at Howard or something. In addition, it's rumored he wants to step up, and may already be considered for other HC positions. Don't want a guy who is going to give us one good year and jump ship, putting us in another awkward position.
I think everyone just got too excited about getting rid of Stiney, that they loved Pep. There are other young guys out there waiting to prove something. Beamer is looking around. The goal is to remove Stiney. That is more than likely happening. So give it some time on the OC pick. Remember we are talking about Beamer here, dude is not hastey.
offer from the 49ers. Maybe all hope isn't lost?
now?
Pep Hamilton to Chuck Long, supposedly? NO.
Just bail Marcus out and hire him. At least our offense would learn toughness.
Was there such a surplus of talent at Oklahoma so that he couldn't fail?
What caused him to fail at Kansas? Do the same conditions exist at Virginia Tech?
How well can he recuit / does he have any Virginia connections / will he be hungry to recruit?
Can we do better than a former Broyles finalist with top 10 offenses on his resume? No.
Is he Pep Hamilton? No, less current status, more long term success. Is Long a perfect choice? Absolutely not, but the vast majority of OC hires are flawed retreads given another shot. Sometimes, like Noel Mazzone or Tony Franklin. They respond well with a clean slate.

# | I've been playing NCAA13 because I needed to see VT win on the field. During the off-season coaching carousel, this happened: I did the same with "Ryan Williams."
yep. Even created Craig but he transferred to GT

Their talent level is nothing like ours. Did Gill run a triple option? I always assumed he did.....
