But Iowa was indeed a test. That's a good team, two legitimate scoring threats, size, defenders, ball handlers, good coach. Iowa is a middle tier ACC/B1G team and we handled them.
OSU is better, but we seem ready for the challenge.
WVU just isn't that valuable.
Keep an eye on the Maryland ruling. That'll set the precedent for other schools leaving. My guess is Maryland pays no more than half of the $50mm once their lawyers are done with it and they settle. If it drops, then the floodgates open up.
Also, my guess is whichever schools leave will get financial help to pay any exit fees from their new conference.
The answer would be no, we clear $15 million in football profit and would invest most of that...but then again wouldn't have voted to raise the exit fee either.

Not when one of us wins the Powerball jackpot. I'm sure we'll (I'll) do the right thing.
We just gave the ACC a win in the ACC/B1G challenge. Screw the fee.
Fair trade right?
Wake me when we get an SEC invitation. This is a band-aid, maybe a crutch, meant to patch ourselves up and carry on our way. TKP members have hashed out all the compelling reasons with acute insight over the years on all matters conference realignment. And because of that I am more than aware of the counterarguments to this perhaps brash and extreme statement…For me it comes down to one thing: I believe football is the greatest and most important sport ever and want that to be the focus of VT athletics. And I don’t like leftovers or setting your sights too low (love the fiddler crabs analogy above). Did the ACC offer membership to Florida or Alabama? No you say? Then we’re looking in the wrong place for a home.
Would we have any issue coming up with the $50mm ACC exit fee?
Last night was a great win no doubt, but their transition defense is still really shaky, and Van Zegren scares me on defense. He settled down a bit in the second half but he was a real liability in the first half, but I think he'll get the hang of it as the season goes on. Their first real test is on Saturday against Ok St. That's when we'll see what they're really made of
we'll start the year ranked anyway ... if for no other reason -- than to inflate alabama's accolades in 2013
Don't insult mullets that way!
Would probably disagree.
If Beamer has replacements in mind my guess is they are not only people he is familiar with, but people that he knows are interested in the job. Todd Washington (Assistant OL, Ravens) has been tossed around, and an NFL assistant isn't going to take the job until the season is over. The last two times Beamer made staff moves, it happened after the bowl game.
It might hurt our chances of landing Tony Franklin.
louisiana tech c sonny dykes to interview at nc state today.— Dick Weiss (@NYDNDickWeiss) November 28, 2012
If Dykes gets a promotion, Franklin might go with him.
THIS MAKES ME SO ANGRY, I COULD JUST STOMP ON A LOUISVILLE PLAYER'S CALF!
So, is the SEC looking to expand their market?
a few days ago....Cardinals were the best fit available from the BEC....too hard for the ACC to pull anyone from B1G, SEC...so the path of least resistance theory works again.
I'd love to see an offense installed this spring.
are doing so for one of several reasons. They have a history of bad performance (ex: Embree @ Colorado), or the performance trend is not upward vs. expectations (ex: Chisik @ Auburn, Spaz @ BC). They have a history of being a less than personable interface between the program and the boosters (O'brian @ NCSU). These are all HC positions, mind you. The position coaches & co-ordinators for most bowl teams won't get shuffled until after teams have played their bowl game. So the lack of any news re:CFB & the Hokie staff at this stage shouldn't surprise anyone. There will be good candidates available when/if (and it better be WHEN) changes are decided upon. And that's not to say that there are not discussions on-going behind the scenes with candidates too.
Louisville is the best all around athletics department of any of the potential ACC schools. Solid in football of late, great in basketball. And an upgrade over Maryland and their crybaby fanbase.
Not a major TV market, but didn't we just lock in a multi-year TV deal anyway? (I honestly don't know.) The conference doesn't need Maryland to get the DC market - that's what we're here for.
And add a NC school (State would be the likely choice) or an Oklahoma school. IMO, they are the most likely candidates for new TV markets. sakerlina won't allow Clemson in
Seriously, I don't care what system we use, as long as we use it to beat down, demoralize, and obliterate opposing defenses. I think any decision should go beyond LT3's capabilities, though. An offense performs up or down to the level of it's line play, a fact of which I'm sure we're all painfully aware.
the Metro Conference Division of the ACC
It is just crap imo. VT is being stubborn and not seeing the benefits of moving to the SEC. Granted I do see a bunch of this chatter about us staying with ACC as lip service. If we had received a legitimate financial offer it would be a no brainer. We would have a way tougher schedule but our recruiting would improve and I think we could be competitive.
Hopefully the addition of these weaker programs will instigate an offer from the SEC. If we don't make some move we will be a big fish in a weak conference that will be viewed as the conference with a seat at the table but doesn't deserve it.
(She's an Iowa alum). I'm very happy! Go hokies!

I would love it except for Clemson. I don't think they would come over but who knows. SEC has a bunch of instate rivals even in the same division of the conference so... Now if NCState and VT were to go to SEC that could be great.
