If I had been picking this way all season, who knows where I'd be.....just a bad pick here, a bad pick there....geesh....I'm starting to sound like CFB....
But we did let them have a 14-0 run early in the second half that cut our lead from 17 to 3, over a span of 4:19

You lost me at "wrestling fan", but it looks like you put a lot of thought and enthusiasm into it.
Just out of curiosity.....did you write this whole post in your first 45 minutes of work? haha
The ACC is the WCW

But awesome none the less!
Hells to the yeah!
I would argue that our consistency is what makes our program the one we know and love. Obviously I'd love to have a title, but would you really trade what we have?
As a whole, we don't have attendance roller coasters or fair-weathered fans. We know that 66,233 fans will have butts in seats on Gameday whether we are playing Western Kentucky on a Saturday nooner or Florida State on a Thursday night. Would you rather be Miami, whose most recent title is 10+ years ago? They were truly dominant in the 80s, and yet they can't fill even half their stadium. I'll use ESPN's example, Auburn. They won a title 2 years ago, but would you really be prepared for a 3-win season? Until this season, our biggest complaint this time of year has been "Ugh, the Orange Bowl again?!" If you ask me, that's a good problem to have.
Being consistently good breeds hope. I look at the schedule at the start of every season and know that we should be favored to win all but maybe 1-2 games. I know that with a couple of breaks, it could be a very special season. I have never had the crushing feeling that once the stars of this year's team leave (Cam Newton, Nick Fairley,) our team won't have a shot next year at anything, let alone a bowl game. This season being the obvious exception, I know that our coaches have put the players in position to win. Even in "rebuilding" years like 2008, we can compete and win the ACC.
Consistently good is a little bit of luck away from being occasionally great. I'll take what we have any day.
To get a Title you have to be consistently great. In other words there has to be an expectation for greatness. The bar is higher and takes an exceptional effort to get over. But it can cause instability in a program. Getting one title means you want more.
The SEC is a perfect example. Even if Nick Saban won five straight NCs he would be fired if he had a 6-6 season. Success in college also attracts offers from the NFL or more money from competing schools. Would we want that kind of turnover?
This is college athletics and the primary purpose of college is education. Consistency is more important for me then the wild gyrations like the SEC schools experience. They are like professional sports teams. I have endured many losing and mediocre seasons and don't wish to go back to that.
@ RealDiehl- I see what you were getting at and trying to do, but I'm not sure it worked, unfortunately, but good attempt to (basically) rally the staff and team. I'll give you props on that. I'll stand away from the grenade of how it was signed, cause i don't want to get into that.
@JeffreyTFerg- of all of what you typed, I just wanted to say that I almost did the middle school teenage girl squeal when I read the Sam Seaborn quote. I thought I was the only one that remembered that show.
I would love to see us trim the fat in the playbook and get rid of some of the plays we run that leave us looking at the tv like, "what was that?". Personally, I think there is good potential in LT3 ( but I have said that i am a big LT3 supporter in another thread, so I may be blinded by that.). I think he has all the tools to be a really good QB, I just don't think the coaches have reached him. It's kind of like school, you can have the most brilliant students and never teach them a thing because your way of teaching just doesn't reach them, or you can have the kids who slack off or constantly get in trouble come in your class and grasp everything better than most others because you do reach them. I blame part of that on coaching and part on the player. Either way, on the QB front, there is some work to do.
RB............well, I would just like for us to pick a guy and run him.
Not 4 guys.
WR........BLOCK! come on, man!...... but , seriously, I wouldn't really change much here. Just polish and rework the fundamentals.
O-line- DAMN! complete overhaul is my vote.
So, basically, I want to see a system that focuses on the power run and shoving the ball down the opponents throat. At that point they have to fear the run and cover it at all times which frees up our QB for some air play. LT3 has a great run once he gets up to speed and once he really gets going, his size makes it hard to "just bring him down". You have to actually grab and drag him. For VT, we have had dual threats before with Tsquared and the Vicks, but they were all speed. LT3 is power. Its opposite, just like our RB. Wilson, Williams, Evans....yeah, they were fast but they had power and were hard to "just stop". Now we have JC, all speed. I would love to see us have a power RB and the power run QB and just ram the ball down field. Wear the Defense out with the run and then start the mid range curls, posts, and slants. Stretch out the D laterally, give them the pass, then ram it again. Just my thoughts on a strong ground dynamic I'd like to see. you know opinion wise :)
Then again.........I will settle for just better play calling and a more simplified playbook that is effective to start.
During every season, every team has those games. The real tell all is whether they play hard and give the same effort for 40 minutes even when things aren't going their way. I'd like to think JJ wouldn't accept anything less but until it happens we won't know.
Everything feels different about this team from years past. To me it all comes down to the attitude of the team. In years past you wouldn't see guys excited to play every night. We've seen guys wanting to give it all. When they were down JJ was right there to get them back up. We saw vs Iowa how good they could be when they have a live atmosphere behind them. I was always worried about the one or two games when we would lose to a team we should beat. I have a feeling that this year might be different. It'll be nice to see Oklahoma st come in and really challenge the team. This game will show how good JJ is at in game adjustments because they'll get their runs.
The big thing about Greenberg was that he was great in big games. One overlooked part of that is he was terrible in the first half of the season to get big wins. Some examples... K-state twice, Syracuse, Purdue, etc. It'll be interesting if JJ can get the team together quicker in the upcoming years and this weekend to get the big wins early.
Side note: The start of the 2nd half was refreshing to see us not go on a 5 minutes scoring drought (or any part of the game for that matter)
Had I not forgotten to pick one week, I'd be sitting in (a distant) third!
He is in line for the HC job. As he should be. There's no way an OC comes in and jumps him for the spot.
That sounds like a guarantee of instability. Although, that may be incentive to be hired with the thought of the OC moving into the HC position, much like Jimbo Fisher.
Come on, he's made our offense in basketball go from boring to awesome, I think he can do it in football too!
I only saw 1 or 2 comments mentioning this guy. He is supposed to be a workhorse RB that should solve some of our problems
I think I would value consistency more if we had a title before.
The fact that this team scored +30 points in the final 10 minutes of the game says a lot about the attitude of the team to me. This is a group that sticks with it and is in good physical shape. They're mentally strong and refuse to coast even when they have a lead like what was seen in the greenberg era. I'm having fun watching this team and that's not a statement I could make about most of last year.
Really? I did pretty good with Leal. I think he won the Maxwell one of the years I had him. JC won the Heisman that same year.
I am a BEAST!
yay, finally connected to the interwebs now that i have moved. sorry for the delay.
