I would be a fan off all maroon home (current style with stripes on shoulders), all white away including helmet (like worn in the FSU ACCC game 2-3 years ago when Danny Cole was so wide open), and maybe once a year (ONCE) doing a Nike pro combat type deal. I think this would give us consistancy and a chance to change it up once a year.

I do love the all maroons from Miami 03 (as seen above), however, my one personal knock on them was the orange numbers on the shoulders. I think if those were white with orange outline (like the numbers on the chest/back) they would be my all time fav.

I wonder what our current style (with stripes on shoulders) would look like with the darker maroon as seen in 03 vs miami (as seen above)

This is a perfect recipe for a Hokies win.

We aren't favored in the game, actually were getting 9. No one, ie. the media, expects us to win. We've struggled with offense and defense.

I like our odds when the deck is stacked against us.

Let's Go Hokies!!

Our receivers, Marcus Davis 2 TD's, definitely pulled up on a bunch of routes to get to the ball and made great catches.

Re-watched this 5 times.

Every D-lineman is FIRING off the ball - ALL out. Haven't seen much of that this season...

You BLITZ ALL NIGHT! If they cross the line of scrimmage, we'll take every last one of them out. You make sure they remember, FOREVER, the day they played the Hokies at noon!!!

What makes this even worse is that he was a Hokie all his life. He grew up wanting to be a Hokie. He talked about how excited he is for this game especially. He was supposed to get a chance to walk on here, but was told he would have to get his Associate's before being considered. So not only are these ignorant people disrespecting a hero, they are disrespecting a Hokie! I appreciate his service and yours as well Hokie 681!

I've spoken with a couple others about this and maybe its just being pessimistic.

Watching the game against Duke in person, I felt if we were playing a secondary that had some talent a good majority of Logan's long passes would have been picked off.

A majority of them looked very under thrown to me, as if he was afraid of going too long.

I love that were stretching the field and taking the chances but it worries me knowing the schedule we have ahead. Anyone else thinking the same thing?

You would want Manning matched up with Hopkins? Personally, I think Manning has been a disappoint this year. I know he's a freshman, but I feel like they expected a lot more out of him. He's gotten burned a lot this year. Although with all the damn PI calls Exum gets, maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Yea I used to sing along to the "Hey! We just sacked you" part in my North days. Never knew the rest but it makes sense now.

I personally prefer We Will Rock You when we sack them. The words to it, that few people really hear after each line of "We Will Rock You" are:
Hey! We just sacked you!
Hey! We'll do it again!
Hey! I think he likes it!

Didn't consider the secondary that bad in 99, at least pre-NCG....FSU got the better of us in the second half stretching the field vertically. But agreed, the 99 front was scary good...hopefully we can re-create a little of that magic Saturday

And sadly, if I remember correctly, this was killed sometime during my sophomore or junior year (2002-03). In the North, I used to scream for them to play it.

Best thing the band ever did was playing the Empire Strikes Back theme every time there was a sack, tackle for a loss, or a teeth rattling hit. Everything else, Sandman, Stick it In, the keychains... it all pales in comparision for me.

I made this comment in this week's Adventures in Whiskey Lane podcast, but while I have been critical of the offensive coaching staff for their poor use of personnel and their inability to teach good fundamentals (looking at you Curt Newsome and Kevin Sherman), I have to tip my hat to O'Cain and Stinespring for the Duke plan and the future IF this is what the offense looks like.

Early in the season, we saw gobs of nonsensical motion. You didn't see the same play more than 2-3 times a game max, and it appeared everybody, especially Logan Thomas, were confused and out of synch. Over the last couple of games, we have seen the motion cut down. We have seen the play calling simplified. We now see a team with some kind of identity. We can argue about if it is the right identity, but at the very least we know what the bread and butter is for this team.

* On goal line and short yardage, if the Hokies are in the I, they will block the play side linemen down, kick out with the guard, and lead the fullback through the hole. In a normal down and distance, they will run some screens (not as many because the blocking isn't as good) and they will run a counter power play, where the fullback dives to the strong side, and the tailback dives to the weakside.

* The rest of the time, we will see dive, crossbuck, and play action from the pistol, and we will see the read option with a jet sweep motion or a straight read option from the shotgun with the offeset tailback.

* In the passing game, we will see vertical routes (go's, out and ups, posts, skinny posts), on occasional curl at the sticks, and a variety of screens. The drags, crossing routes, and deep outs are not part of the plan.

This is our offense, and it has to score 30 points+ a game to win against almost everyone left on the schedule.

On defense, the defensive line has to start forcing mistakes. The 99 defense is perhaps a poor comparision, but I always felt that despite their lofty numbers, the secondary was awful. The pressure up front made that secondary look much better than it was. We need the same thing from this defensive front.

Oregon - it's like no one can stop these Ducks, they finally have a D
LSU -I really want to pick TAMU here
Iowa State - Just cause i guess
Florida - Lattimore being out effects SCAR a good bit
Duke - Rivalry game and UNC looking down on Duke keeps it close
WVU - bounce back

That is a great insight. I agree, it could be a presnap read based on the alignment of an extra unaccounted for player in that outside gap. The end probably should have squeezed that inside gap little more. Logan pulled the ball from the mesh point quickly and used the little seam to slide through. In reality, that play should have gained more yardage because both Miller and Becton got to the middle linebacker, but Logan ran into them.

And, that play features two guys who barely got on the field against UNC, despite the fact that Via, Wang, and Martin were all horrible against the Heels. Hmmmmm.

Benedict looks awkward as hell, but he gets there and gets the job done. He is the best drive blocker on the team, and consistantly their offense has been at it's best when Via is at left guard and Benedict is at right guard. I have no clue why they keep tinkering with it.

We will live and die by the blitz

If we can get pressure up front, our secondary has the best chance to survive. Not until the second half of Duke, has our DL dominated a game. And with all the finger pointing - I'm shocked that pressure on opposing QB's hasn't been more scrutinized.

FUCK CLEMSON!

Oregon
LSU
ISU
USC
UNC
WVU

Beer of the week: Bud Light and Hokie Fuel (Wild Turkey) boilermakers in the first quarter...dead by halftime. LET'S GO!!!!

That one was all about a presnap read. He sees a DB playing up on the line of scrimmage and the linebackers playing that side. The DE bites cause he knows he has a linebacker and a DB in support. If he hands it off to JC, then Gregory has to block the DB forcing JC inside and the linebacker has an easy tackle.

can't believe I forgot last week.. crazy

Oregon -9.5
LSU -3.5
Iowa State +14.5 -- why are we picking this game?
