It is more of a 3-3-5 defense, but RVD is basically like a safety out there.

Ha! I didnt even notice the date. Guess I didnt read all that closely. Ah well I was a bit hungover this morning.

Awesome article BCH.
I love his attitude the most. Glad he's so mentally prepared and driven, that's rare at his age. I fully respect players who always push themselves.

VERY excited to see him an a Hokie uniform!!

I was excited to tune in to ESPN2 to watch him, then I looked at the date that the article was posted, and then I was disappointed...

Watching every practice since training camp on August 6th, I've been extremely impressed with JCC. Small back, bounces off defenders, and has explosive speed to cut the corner and head up field. He has definitely earned his spot as the starter. The only problem is that Duke's defense is terrible. Finally a D-Line that our O-Line could handle and a secondary that our receivers were outrunning. They gave up over 500 yards of offensive to us. It's going to be a tough next 4 weeks, but I'm hoping this win gives us momentum going into Death Valley next week.

"He lined up opposite Kyle and prepared to throw a block. The ball was snapped. Kyle promptly torpedoed his younger brother to the turf.

"I just looked down at him and started laughing," said Kyle. "The game was over, but he and I were going at it.""

but a wins a win and great to see the team experience success that hopefully will carry over to this week. We played physical football with maddy, gayle, bruce and I never thought I would say this but Joey Phillips was killing people.

"what's new" will tell you which articles have new comments, however you'll have to see for yourself whether or not the new comments were in response to yours or not.

Like others here I have been reading TKP for a while but never commented. The only question I have is if someone responds to one of your comments, is there anywhere that it notifies you of this? Also, Dozer's video analysis is amazing.

Edmunds/Harris and JCC combo backfield next year.

Start working on those nicknames.

Foster will need to figure out a gameplan that minizes man-to-man over the next 3 games. To have a reasonable chjancew of going 2-1 over that stretch vt must get pressure on the qb with the front 4, which should allow them to zone up in the secondary. I cringe at the thought of the secondary matching up in man against clemson, miami and fsu.

On offense, we need to avoid the slow starts and try to play ahead for once this season. From my untrained eye it appears to be execution related but don't understand how vt can have such difficulty executing the scripted plays that you would imagine are run a lot during game prep. The pieces appear to be there and hopefully the character and emotion we saw on saturday after spotting duke 20 isn't fleeting. We need some upper classmen to step up and set the tone for the rest of the season. If that doesn't happen then we will continue to see the inconsistent play.

....that I thought JCC would leave VT as its all time leading rusher. We have gotten close to that mark with Suggs, KJ, RW and DW....but none stayed for their last year (remember, Suggs could have applied for a Med RS and decided against it). JCC will be here for all four years.

I compare him to Dion Lewis from PITT. He's small, but powerful.

A 1-2 punch of coleman and gregory could be potent but it all depends on the guys up front. I could have turned the corner on some of those runs yesterday (ok, probably not but the blocking yesterday was great at times). If the OL can seal the edge the way they did yesterday the running game will yield some big plays the rest of the way.

The key the next three weeks will be figuring out how to get around the fact that our secondary is just awful in man-on coverage. While duke is a very good team I did see some passes that were dropped/overthrown/underthrown that could have been 1st downs or more. I don't see these type of passes going incomplete against at least clemson and fsu. I didn't get a chance to watch the whole game bc of work but I did notice this to be a major issue in the first part of the game as well as during the bits and pieces I watched over the course of the day. I also noticed that while we were dominant in our front seven, I wasn't sure how Duke's running game as a whole stacked up against some of the others in the ACC. I'm anxious to see French's review so I can fill in the holes I missed.

The bottom line is there is a great if not 100% chance that at least clemson and fsu will hang significant points on us during the first half of our respective games. The key will be whether we can answer back because if we can't respond in kind, the games will be over quickly.

Pretty sure this was Coleman's first start as well, so at least whatever the coaches see at practice is getting rewarded. I can't imagine then not starting him again next week after this game, but it tells you something when we are doubting the staff on something so obvious.

Great call with how well our RBs run when LT gets going too.

I can honestly say TKP has made me a smarter football fan. Lurker since '11, commenter since today.

I know it's 8 AM, but it's never too early for piecharts.

The two things I take away from them: 1) Less carries to the wide receivers means more touches and production for the tailbacks, 2) if Logan Thomas is involved in the ground game, we will move the ball. He ran the zone read very well yesterday.

I agree with many of the comments in this thread. Specifically, if J.C. isn't the featured guy to start against Clemson, it would be demoralizing for the team and fans. That's nothing against Holmes who has done well in spots, but J.C. must have earned it in practice, and showed what he could do when he gets the touches. I never thought Gregory would compliment Coleman well, but he did just that. Both are speedsters, but Gregory seems to go downhill a little more. Although, I love Coleman throwing his shoulder into defenders and trying to run through people.

that just isn't a one week flash in the pan as some big games are on the horizon. Sorry, Joe, but I do have a little "It's Duke" thoughts. In their 5 wins, their opponents are 11-21through this weeks games. That being said, this is a good Duke team that hung 20 on us pretty quickly. It was great to see the D-Line playing like we all thought they would and the better the defense plays, the easier it is on the secondary. The slow starts are still troubling, at least both side of the ball stormed back after being down. Also, WVU and LOLuva lost, which when you combine with the Hokies win and some bourbon, just tastes damn fine.
