If UNC was a better squad, I think Gio Bernard would be in the mix here.

Well said! I think certain people need to remember we're all on the same team. It's fun to trash talk, thats part of the game, but you can do that with being respectful.

For your service, sir! And via this board, to the young man you mentioned as well.

Nice to see the offense feeding off the defense's energy and the defense feeding off the offense's energy.

I've always said that I wanted them to keep Stiney because of his recruiting prowess and because I felt he was a good position coach and I still do. But you're right, losing him wouldn't be a big deal, plus if Frank demotted him I think he could be toxic to the rest of the staff and team.

I (and other people) have been hearing rumors that major changes will be made to the staff in the offseason regardless of the outcome, even if we win out. This is coming from some of the boosters and it's not going to be left in Frank's hands (bout time if you ask me). I've also heard that nobody's job is safe. In fact I met a couple who are Hokies' fans (and I believe boosters too) at my son's football game tonight and the wife told me that her son-in-law (who is a coach at Hargrave) is good friends with Cornell Brown and that he told him the same thing. The husband told me that he had it on 'good authority' that the reason Kevin Rogers left the program is that he wanted to be the OC but realized that unless 'lightning struck Stiney' he wasn't going to be. He also told me that Rogers took over the playcalling in the 4th quarter of the 2005 ACC Championship game against FSU, and you saw what happened.

I'd like to get Rogers back. He could be our QB coach (because O'Cain needs to go). I know you don't agree with that but it's true. Plus he could be the OC. For OL coach I'd want either Eugene Chung or Todd Washington. Both have experience coaching in the NFL and Chung played OL in the league (don't know about Washington).

At the beginning of the season/preseason I thought Holmes would be our most consistent runner and JC would get the share of the 2nd back carries. Little did I know the offense would be so wishy-washy about who the lead guy would be at the Tailback spot. But at this point it NEEDS to be Coleman with 60% of the RB carries. Gregory to get the 2nd most and Scales to get mop-up/goal-line duty.

From my POV at least, Holmes has been very disappointing and the least consistent with his share of the carries. I don't see anything he excels at (had a twitter convo with a few other guys from the site a week ago about this...they agree). Unless he starts showing up better in practice, Holmes should be the 4th man in the stable.

Coleman and Gregory are our HR hitters with their speed. Scales can bring some power (being a former FB). And I haven't even mentioned LT3! I'm not trying to bash Holmes I just think he really needs to improve. /end rant

Keep starting JC, Shane!

Ive been part of the student body since our first year in the acc, and it seems like its been steady downhill fan interaction wise for the last 2 years. Its seems to be turning into more of a event for the frats and girls. if you noticed all the colored shirts for homecoming were gone by the start of the 2nd half. I looked over at the once proud north endzone to barely half full in the 2nd half.
I brought a friend to a game last year from SEC country and told me we resemble ole miss, i was disgusted to say the least. hell with winning a party, i want a W at the end of the day. hopefully things will turn around soon and we can go back to being LANE stadium

Idk what the hate is about, I would be perfectly happy with this uni for the rest of the year. Sure the white helmets didnt look great, and the orange is pretty ugly, but I honestly have no complaints with this jersey. It's simple, and I like it.

We aren't a creative enough team to have really creative jerseys, but I definitely wouldn't mind them either.

The orange highlights like that are the only acceptable form of orange on our unis.

Biggest Surprise: Notre Dame
Biggest Disappointment: Arkansas

I agree, this is the best uniform we have had. It would be great to see this comeback at least one more time.

Love em. I dig the maroon with orange highlights

Dozer's Play of the Game - Week 7

tonkaberlin:
Virginia Tech had no business being down to Duke. But let's be honest; nobody was truly surprised that they were. The major issue was that they were being killed 20-0 in the first quarter. It looked like Duke, at 5-1 simply wanted that 6th win to become bowl eligible, while the Hokies were content to lose their third game in as many weeks. Admittedly, the Hokies were able to rally a little in the second quarter to only be down by 20-10, but Duke was driving with 40 seconds left in the half.

On VT's 29, Duke had 1st and 10 with two timeouts left. A touchdown here would have extended the lead a bit and decimated any hope of a Hokie comeback going into the locker room. Fairweather fans would flee to the exit. Those watching at home might look to see what other noon games were on. I would have cried. But that wasn't the case.

Somehow, somewhere, luck was finally on Virginia Tech's side. Rather than getting a first down at the VT 20 yard line with 34 seconds left, the receiver bobbled the pass and Detrick Bonner snatched it and returned it all the way past midfield.

A few yards out of field goal range, it still wasn't obvious whether Beamer would have Logan take a knee to avoid risking a turnover or run the ball in hopes of gaining a few yards. Instead, Logan chose option C and launched a bomb similar to Tyrod's to Boykin against Tennessee in '09. This time the receiver, Marcus Davis, not only made the catch, but stayed on his feet and took it all the way into the end zone. Lane Stadium (and the Hokie Twitter universe) erupted. Instead of being down 27-10, VT cut the lead to 20-17 with momentum going into the half, knowing they got the ball to start.

The Hokies came out in the second half and played a fierce game, with Marcus Davis and J.C. Coleman having career games and finally giving my brother enough footage for a highlight reel . It's difficult to say whether that would have happened if VT didn't have that momentum and confidence at the half. But at the end of the day, these two plays combined to turn around the spirits of everyone playing and watching. VT scored 41 unanswered points to put Duke away 41-20, discovering a running game in the process. And a heckuva lot of credit is due to these plays:

It is a strong word. LOLUVA

A kid that has a guest ticket in our friend group (brother of one of my friends) was set on making a paper airplane during the Duke game this past week. For 5 minutes I hounded on him that he better not fucking throw it. He finally threw it, and was immediately escorted to the bottom of the stands by security. The best part was that he wasn't kicked out of the stadium. But because he no longer had his ticket, he couldn't get back to his seats. Karma's a bitch.
