For destroying the Hampton High-UVa bridge!

sweet. make it happen JJ (and Weaver)!
Warwick is in NN.
Age is catching up to me. Went to Menchville and saw them bludgeon us many times it's almost painful.
Both Vicks came from Hampton area (warwick high) as well. Just not HH.
how about Tyrod Taylor
Guess I can suffer through it. Does VT get a lot of kids from Hampton? I don't remember too many Crabbers that became Hokies.
Whoops...
He just seemed to be more of a natural on D. He is definitely a playmaker. Although with so many DBs in this class, I can see him moving to WR.
Hmm...
Hampton coach Mike Smith confirms that rising senior Deon Newsome has committed to Virginia Tech. The Hokies recruited him as an athlete.— Dave Johnson (@DaveJohnsonDP) May 3, 2012
Virginia Tech commit Deon Newsome said he was recruited as ATL but prefers offense, either WR or RB. Picked Hokies over UVa— Dave Johnson (@DaveJohnsonDP) May 3, 2012
The kid is shifty and appears to tackle pretty well. He will do well on special teams, either returning or defending, but he will stay on the defensive side. He appears to have issues carrying the ball and has David Wilson syndrome of not wanting to go down when he should. Still, a solid pickup and the fact that UVA offered him too is a double win.
Many years ago we played Uva every year. Varsity teams are not allowed to play club teams anymore. I started one year and played in Scott Stadium. We got the full treatment with starting line-ups announced over the PA system. Then they proceeded to destroy us. Big difference between club level and scholarship athletes.
The club lacrosse organization nationwide has grown tremendously. Way better than when I played. VT has always finished near the top of the SELC and has played for the championship numerous times. This is the second conference win. Tech has competed in the Nationals many times either as the conference champ or an at-large.
Awesome news. Both in terms of Wood and the comments from Green. I really hope we can hang on to "trez". That dude has All-ACC potential. If JJ can get DFS playing at a high level consistently, then a team of Brown, DFS, Harrell, Wood, Barksdale, Raines, Green, Rankin, Eddie etc would be a pretty awesome roster for a first year coach to work with.
I actually liked it that once in a while they dig up some random stats to prove the hype of pretty much any player they want. Not sure if there's a data mining algorithms there in ESPN or they just o that manually.
I whole-heartedly approve. Those guys have been really good for a while.
Why do they always have to make stat lines so complicated? It's ridiculous how they have it.
Those are for passing attempts for more than 15+ yards
Or are those stats WAY off at around 1:20? His season completion percentage was 59%, and he threw for WAY more than 8 touchdowns all season. I may be an idiot and reading their stat line wrong...can someone tell me if I am?
agreed. Coles will be the man. If a receiver is utilized on jet sweeps, it will be Roberts and Caleb. Davis is a straightline guy who they will keep at split end.
Marcus Davis does not have good hands. He rarely catches the ball cleanly, although he still makes plays with his athleticism. I think DJ Coles will be our best receiver if he can get healthy and get in some reps. What we have not seen him do yet is go up over a DB and come down with the ball, but watching him catch a slant or a screen on the run is gold. He catches the ball with his fingers (ie that one fade he caught in the back corner of the endzone..) and he is so smooth after the catch. Plus, he goes hammer time in the run game.
Of our 2005 Squad to me. How they didn't do better than than 11-2 is astounding when you consider the droves of talent on both sides of the ball. Looking back at names like Will Montgomery, Duane Brown, Nick Schmidt, Aaron rouse, Jimmy Williams, Xavier Adibi, Vince Hall, Darryl tapp, etc its more than perplexing. However, what I saw with that squad compared to our guys this year is how dominant the defense looks. We finally have a solid 8 man rotation on the line with a supplementing LB corps. The secondary is a bit thin and can prove frail in a jiffy if injury hits. Nonetheless, BF and TG should get everyone out there in fighting shape. This unit is the most exciting to watch out for this fall.
Our offense may look glaringly different without guys like Royal and Clowney but when you consider how poised LT is over little Vick (as well as disciplined) there is some hope. The Tailback situation has some similarities as well. The Humes/Imoh tandem wasn't flashy or dynamic but they got the job done more often than not. From what I've heard, Holmes may not have great top end speed but he can pound the rock with some elusiveness and strength. Adding Scales and Coleman in a variety of packages will only solidify the position as long as our o-line can come together. I also truly believe that this could be Marcus Davis' year. he's a big guy with some good hands once he becomes comfortable with his routes. Not much needs to be said about STRAIGHTBURNER when healthy either. I really really hope we can have him as a force on Jet sweeps while focusing D.J. Coles on screen play. These two will certainly help us manage the game with good chunks of yardage.
I've probably blabbed too much already but I'm excited moreso about our teams potential. Are they a National Championship calibur team? errrr, maybe not. However, I see enough to get that 10+. As the analysts have mentioned though, we should definitely have that thursday night game circled come November. We just have to get over that GT game first then keep the foot on the pedal.
** Feel free to call out any evaluation here. I forgot to mention the TE position as it doesnt seem apparent that we have a Jeff King type of guy. What we do have is Randall Dunn who can be what Greg Boone was supposed to be.
Blackledge did give some good insight. I think the point herbstreit brought up about who can beat us in lane consistently doesn't apply to this year. Half our games are away from lane and they aren't going to bbe necessarily easy. This team will be successful if they can get leadership and convert down the stretch of games. Both of which I think have been proven last year. As long as the o-line holds up, I feel like tech gets through the season with at worst 9 wins not counting the bowl game. Injuries on offense will be something to watch out for though.
CFB & Co have of way of reloading every year. There have been many years where the defense has carried the team and VT has been very successful. Lower expectations seem to be good for us. The results are determined on the grass and not in the booth.
This discussion finally seems more down to earth. Too bad they're still gonna be drinking the FSU and Clemson (&UVA) koolaid.
38-0 bro

Our old offense of "run up the middle, run outside with no blocking, pass" and "pass, pass, qb run" didn't work out so well all the time (probably the reason we had so many negative plays). Real reason is because we have what college football would classify as a veteran qb with a lot of skill. When you have a player like that running the team you can venture out and try to add new pieces here and there. Logan will be able to help out the line although with any new offense there will be blown assignments. Dyrell and Logan have been there forever so I'm sure their chemistry should make the motion work.
