Beamer and Gray were in good ole' Fauquier checking in on Michael Parker at Kettle Run today. Hopefully they checked out Teller in Liberty also.
They had a lot of early departures to the NFL and people who left after Golden took over. Plus, they know the hammer is coming and are loading up like USC did last year.
I was at both of these games as well and like many have noted, they were both great for their own reasons. The Miami game came after one of the worst losses I've experienced at Lane Stadium watching these Hokies. I don't think anyone knew what to expect when Miami came to town and especially from Logan Thomas. However, Logan provided one of the better quarterback performances I've seen in person hitting throw after throw while providing the necessary runs for a total of five touchdowns. When Miami scored with just over a minute left in the game, I thought "Here we go again.." before we even touched the ball. LT3, however, developed his spot as the quarterback at Virginia Tech and took the team down the field for a moment I will never forget. The atmosphere was electric. The call on ABC was electric. The game was simply amazing.
The UVA game was another game that while I had much confidence in our team, I still had a bit of the unexpected. We had just come off a Thursday night win over UNC that wasn't exactly beautiful and the Wahoos finally were playing with some confidence they hadn't seen in a LONG time. I took the trip with five of my closest buddies, all of which were cheering for UVA. As the game started, my nerves kicked in. Our defense came out with a nice opening series then LT3 and the offense came on the field. The moment my nerves went away and everything felt right was early on. LT3 dropped back, looked down the sideline, and as I stood on the UVA's "hill section", I witnessed Marcus Davis catch a deep pass over Chase Minnifield. A few plays later, LT3 ran into the end zone and a deep breath was let out of me. Thus, the 38-0 demolition occurred.
they're loading up to prepare for the ball-busting that the ncaa is about to give them
Anybody have a clue why Miami is going after so many recruits this late when they've already got a class of 31? Something is just puzzling about that to me.
I agree a lot with what you said about Edmunds is already a better tackler than Gouveia-Winslow, Tweedy, or Dew. I actually see Edmunds as a very similar player to Tweedy. Similar size and a lot of the same skill set. The main thing for Edmunds is his athleticism. The ability he showed as a high school athlete is absolutely amazing. It'll be interesting to see how he develops in the coverage game. Edmunds definitely has a great shot at getting into the two-deep in my opinion and I think he has a very bright future as a Hokie under Bud Foster. I agree with you in that he is one of my top prospects that I'm excited about for the Class of 2012.
thoughts: baron is definitely a dt at tech and surprised you said edmunds would be a better tackler than tweedy. after fuller, i would be hard pressed to find a better tackler than tweedy when he was healthy.
Comment From Tommy H
I heard VT commit Jawand Blue now considering trip to Miami after a visit from Golden yesterday. Will he stay a VT verbal?
Chris Nee: Tommy H- VT expects him on campus this weekend for his official visit. Miami made a late run, but doesn't look like a switch will occur.
with Donaldven Manning as well if everyone remembers. It seems to me that Al is getting on the bandwagon of many of his local recruits a tad too late and in some cases cannot convince them to stay home. As someone mentioned earlier, I am surprised recruits are still listening to sales pitches by Miami due to their impending heavy sanctions from the NCAA which may span their entire time/collegiate eligibility. Also, minus that six week stretch in 2005, they haven't been an elite program since their last National Title or even 2003 (I have a theory: that beatdown in Blacksburg began this trouble...would be happy to be paid to present research and findings on the topic!).
As for Golden, I hope he is turning into Al Groh and totally missing on his state's best recruits or alienating high school coaches so one less school in Florida is there for competition.
I will premise this post that my understanding of college recruiting, outside of the traditional understanding and funny jokes (FSU = Free Shoes U or "Belk" U...sorry Laverneus Coles, loved you as a Jet but couldn't let that one go) about what schools do or how they cover up for younger players, is poor; however, I am very surprised that Notre Dame backed out of Ekanem even with a hovering concern over his injury. A pick up such as Ekanem from the south east, where ND could replant some of their roots lost with the emergence of the SEC as the dominant Conference in the game and schools like Virginia Tech, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and others. A guy like Ekanem could've potentially aided this process of returning ND to a place of heavy relevance on the CFB landscape and not just because of the talent the kid brings to the field. I've read a ton of fan blogs and commentaries moaning and groaning over their recent collapses after hot starts and how athletes now don't want to go to ND because the academic standards are too high. While that may or may not be true, and I will not pretend to know the answer to that question, effectively destroying your own opportunities will not allow you to abscond from your current presence among the plains of mediocrity. Honestly, after reading what I've read here, on Twitter, and on recruiting sites (small tidbits of "article previews"), Ekanem is a phenomenal player who has the potential to be a solid player at this level in any conference. ND walking away from the competition rings not only of stupidity but of arrogance and a feel of superiority which some members of that institution have shown in the past. This is not meant to bash the university itself or its student body by any stretch. As a member of a fellow Jesuit Institution's student body, I can relate on how tough it is to succeed academically in that particular environment. This is simply a broad view of the program under Brian Kelly.
the guy next to me said "he'll run it back you watch" I said "he aint runnin shit back man we're gonna lose in OT"
glad i was wrong
hokie magic on a thursday night
cause its all about the U? the swagger being back or something?
I wonder why Miami took so long to notice him. I watched his highlight tape back when he committed. I was impressed and thought he was underrated.
it looks like he committed to florida, according to peeps on twitter
edit: i'll take that back. maybe they don't offer him .. vt has already offered 4 QBs for 2013
Bucky Hodges, Virginia
Carlis Parker, North Carolina
Riley Ferguson, North Carolina
Anthony Jennings, Georgia
and they dont offer players just because other teams do (that would be UVA) .. they may offer him at some point if they dont get an early commit from one of these guys .. but maybe they've looked at tape and arent ready to do that yet
youre right but wouldnt fuck my gut up much more than just mickey's .. when i'm drinkin to get fucked up and have no regard for my health -- it's icehouse or beast ice .. most bang for your buck but still not terrible tasting -- malt liquor is off the table for me .. sorry dude but malt liquor tastes like shit .. about the only compliment i can give mickey's is it tastes better than the rest of that shit (old E .. ugh)
ommegang makes a kick-ass abbey but it's pricey (not filtered though so not sure if thats an issue with ya). fat tire is awesome but i'd only give it a 7 out of 10 on the pound scale, im a bigger fan of their hoptoberfest than their amber. their snow day is good too as im a big fan of winter beers (sam winter lager, mmm)
newcastle brown has, by far, the BEST quality to poundable ratio. they inject extra co2 in there for a lighter drink -- we call it liquid voodoo in my parts because it will flat creep up on your ass .. ibu is a little low for me though but it's a great summer beer for a brown
like i said, yuengling is definitely my favorite maintenance (cheap american) beer .. to maintain my fat buzz once i've drop 6-10 of the good shit
i am a sierra nevada whore -- i love all of their beers and almost cried when NRV lost the "game" of landing a SN brewery there.
i could talk beer all day .. i love just about all of it .. i brew my own -- home brew is the best of em all
Why in the hell are these kids still paying attention to a team that will almost certainly lose bowl eligibility, is not coming back, and has underperformed for 10 years now?
I live in Delray Beach, just outside of Boca. I'll go pay him a visit on Monday to and dispute everything Al was selling, like Boats and Hoes.
if youre given a beer you drink it. I can understand starting off with something that delivers any semblance of taste. however, after about two hours whatever you consume will go down like aquafina. Since I live in Richmond I no longer turn my nose to the likes of PBR anymore.
My roommate senior year, her father went to Richmond, and claims that if they ever played Virginia Tech, that they would win. *giggle*
Yay for being at that game
get top 10 recruiting classes without successful seasons. It drives me nuts! 'Well, they were uh good once, so uh I guess I'll go there..?' I don't understand why the current state of football affairs isn't weighed more heavily with recruits...
I sure hope winning an NC would help our recruiting! It IS doing pretty well right now, from what I hear. Something will give eventually.
I like lacrosse too, but seriously, I didn't realize it was associated with being snotty..but I guess that makes sense (Duke? Private school? Idk). I guess hoos know that and take offense when you say lacrosse to them? That is beYOND stupid and I love it.
My opinion is reflected in the subject head; however, I have the same concerns that many others have pointed out so quickly stating: we traditionally start out slowly, losing this game would be a terrible start in the DIVISION (could reason the Clemson loss- not going 0-1 this year), etc, etc, etc. Though I am a heavy proponent of the SEC scheduling practices early (one FCS and one crappy FBS team to warm up for your biggest OOC game in week three), I can stomach Georgia Tech for this particular reason: it gives Bud the whole summer to focus a majority of his efforts to countering GT's attack. We cannot forget (and I can see no one has) that CPJ's record in bowl games or games where the opposition has 11+ days to prepare since becoming HC at GT has been poor (and that is being polite). His record in openers is great cause he gets those Georgia powerhouses Georgia Southern and maybe even stretch to Charleston Southern. If this gets the national slot at either 6 or 7:30 pm then it will be a blast (but for some reason I think we will get the 3:30 ABC ACC slot. Don't ask why but its just what my gut is saying...or that could be the Beaconator speaking). But, just to clarify, if we are not prepping for a non-traditional or unique offense, then I want Austin Peay, Richmond, or another FCS school to get the season off the ground. A big loss in week one is a back breaker and in 2009/'10 we got lucky that the coaches and team responded so well each year. Hopefully we can deliver a haymaker in week one to GT and get them to play from behind the entire season. LET'S GO HOKIES!
As for an ACC game in week one: I was biting my fingernails the entire game against NC State in 2005 until Marcus Vick and David Clowney bailed us out in the fourth quarter. That game didn't sit well with me and I don't think this one will be any better; however, still CAN'T WAIT.

Glad to see the Hokies going after some kickers in the midst of the Journell drama and Myer/Weiss leaving.
