Please note: I was driving back to start 3L and lived alone in Knoxville... and there were more cases in the trunk... P.S. Laney was a trooper

Would prefer to see a weak team in the opener to give the offense a chance to work out the kinks and for the secondary to totally sort itself out. On the plus side, a win here puts the Hokies in the drivers seat early for the Coastal, and VT's shown they have no problem playing quality opponents early in the year (even if their record isn't so good).

yeah i mean thats sort of the thing right. ive got nothin against lax, i think its cool they can hit each other with the sticks, but it is a sport associated with wealth, privilege, elitism, that sort of thing and that was the shit talkin angle i was goin with. he was obviously sensitive to it.

ahh stereotypes

Can someone please explain to me the rationale behind offering only Bucky Hodges and not any of the other QBs in VA? I understand that they REALLY want him but is he really the best QB in VA? Hackenburg has offers from Alabama and Miami. It seems to me that VT should also be offering some of them instead of putting all of our eggs in the Bucky Hodges basket. VT is going to look pretty stupid if they don't get him and haven't offered any of the other QBs in VA too.

dude mickey's with tomato and hot sauce would fuck up your gut like i dont even wanna imagine!

but dont hate on mickeys like i've always said: its cheap, it taste good, it gets ya tore up

its the next morning when that hornet'll sting ya!

but yeah i'm an occasional beer snob, went through an abbey ale phase over the last few months. . . if you wanna go poundable for football but still quality? fat tire amber or the one and only newcastle brown

Nothing wrong with Lax. Wonder why he was so sensitive. VT has men's and women's Lax teams, men's is not varisty but a club. There are more club lacrosse teams at schools then there are varsity. There is a club lacrosse national chamionship, All-Americans, etc... VT has been to the Nationals several times. So we also have a Lax interest.

cmon man .. busch?? seriously, i'll drink busch, natty, miller lite, bud light, coors light .. any of em as maintenance beer but i'm definitely a beer snob ... the great thing about these beers is that you can pound the hell out of em .. as far as a maintenance beer goes, i'll take coors light or even better -- yuengling

but i definitely have my limits -- and i don't drink NO MALT-FUCKING-LIQUA YO .. mickey's = a fine malt liquor = oxymoron .. maybe if you could spice it up with some tomato juice and hot sauce .. imagine those shits though

some stupid cow who obviously wore the wrong size skirt stumble by me screaming "safety schoool!" I laughed at her when she reached the top of that stupid hill to get cuffed.

How is this on par with any of the BIG matchups of years past? Most of them were at neutral sites. USC @ FedEx, Bama in ATL, Boise St @ FedEX, etc. Sure we hit that miserable trap game in '08 with ECU but other than that I dont see how scheduling a DIVISIONAL opponent in the ACC as some huge opener. Yea, we've historically battled for the coastal crown after our match-up in November. Nonetheless, the game is at HOME against someone weve seen annually since '05. I'm just excited its a bigger matchup than some silly FCS school. And no, Austin Peay is NOT JMU.

hey, i'll drink whatever from overpriced imperial IPAs to Mickey's at 9 in the morning

but if were goin cheap american i'll take miller lite, it has a little bit sweeter taste imho

not gonna turn down whatever the tailgate is drinking though

remember the bud lites in O&M cans? that was awesome

My highly intoxicated friends were doing "Lets Go! Hokies!" walking up the ramp of the stadium and the chokies guy kept looking back and yelling "bubbas!" and "hicks" with noone from our group noticing but me. We got to the top, he stopped said chokies, I said a single word "lacrosse" and he got all serious. I said "what, you dont like lax?" And called me motherfucker faggot cocksucker etc etc. Me, walking away just smiling at him as he continued beratting me with hollow threats. I thought it was so funny because Wahoos like lax right? Its like their sport right?

I got a bunch smack talkin stories from that day from racial comments about Logan to some Wahoo lesbian getting in one of my buddies' face cause he asked which way Charlotte was after the game

The point being that they get top 10 recruiting classes consistently even without successful seasons. We rarely get that good despite winning consistently. Would winning a NC change that?

I did some research to find which of the winningest teams have not won the NC. Lots of ways to look at the numbers. There is all time winning percent, number of victories, recent success (2000's, 1990's).

Assuming recent success might be a predictor of who could be the next new NC, Boise St. has the most wins and highest % in the 2000's (2000-2009), followed by VT. Since 1990, Marshall has the most wins, followed by BSU & VT. Marshall has fallen off the last decade so I would count them out. I don't believe BSU was Div 1 prior to 1996 so their record is not complete. I also feel BSU is an outlier because of their easy league schedule. VT has the 7th most wins in the 2000's. Of the teams with more victories, besides BSU, all have won the NC at least once in that decade. VT has more victories in that period than 4 of the 9 BCS champs (5 if you include USC's vacated NC). Interestingly Alabama is way down the list, partly due to vacated wins.

If you look at all time winning % there are 4 schools ahead of VT that have never won a NC. All time wins VT is 2nd behind WVU.

Boil it down by these numbers and we are right in the mix of teams that have won a NC. We seem to be doing the right things. So when do we break through, if ever? Will knociking at the door long enough get us in?

I agree, BSU is whole lot better than GT. Better players, better coached, better production. But, I base this on the fact that it will likely be a close game. How many times has VT played GT in the Paul Johnson era without the game coming down to the final quarter, and typically the last drive? This last year, was the most convincing win VT has had over GT, and it was close enough, that a few bad bounces or bad calls, GT wins. BSU game went down to the final drive and if a few calls go the other way, VT wins. That is why it is on par with BSU, because GT is so tough for VT. The game will go down to the 4th quarter and possibly the final drive.

@jmichons I'm confused by what you mean when you say it didn't hurt our competition's prospects. But the point is it DID hurt us, physically and mentally. And the fanbase was super bitchy about it then, but super pumped about it now. If we can't win ANY of our games we don't deserve a shot at the NC, whether its Bama or Boise or Cincy or Gah Tech, no matter when they're scheduled.

@h0kie13 As for getting used to it, the Bama game is expected and has nothing to do with scheduling of the 2012 season in consideration of our turnover on defense. My point is that people were complaining about this kind of scheduling a year ago, but are now celebrating it. Pick one.
