I disagreed with virtually every one of Beamer's 4th down decisions this game, and the special teams play was atrocious. Being forced to listen to clueless commentators drone on about "beamerball" and how brilliant VT usually is on special teams made it all the more painful. The decision to go after the punt late in the first half while we had all of the momentum proved to be a turning point. The fake punt, and timeout used to decide on it, was possibly the single dumbest decision I've seen from this team.

All in all I don't think this a game where either team should feel good about. A terrific senior class leaves on a sour note thanks to terrible coaching and a weaselly-looking ref botching a call that we shouldn't have even been in position to need.

Michigan takes home the trophy, but consider me thoroughly unimpressed. Their defense was bend but not break early, but really stiffened up. Denard Robinson reminds me of a 10-year old playing Madden, just running around wildly and heaving up hail mary floaters off his back foot. They weren't winners but the beneficiary of our own incompetence.

The loss definitely hurts. I was so tired after the game, I was sort of indifferent about the loss. But, the more I lay awake in bed the more the loss really hit home.

It bugs me that we were clearly the better team last night. It seemed like there were 10 different plays / calls / bounces that had they gone our way, we win.

Sooner or later.. don't some of those plays / calls / bounces have to go our way? It just feels like we are always on the losing end of these finishes.

I definitely wanted a win for those seniors. I also wanted a win to shut up all those Michigan fans who figured we were the team that barely beat Duke and Michigan ("team # 132") would just win the game going away.

Can anyone tell me why we were still trying to establish the run in overtime?

The players didn't deserve this. The coaches let them down.

Blue would have no reasonable argument if the catch was ruled a touchdown. They would have accepted it.

To me that is why the overrule was so bad. There was no convincing argument in the video to say it was not a catch. The purpose of replay is not to be the ref but to correct obvious mistakes. Video replay booths have overreached.

We outplayed them. They got lucky. We made enough mistakes to let them win. But we did come to play and did with a lot of heart. It was a great season and a tough way to end. I think anyone that says we didn't belong in this game can stuff it.

Joe you are awesome! I was so heartbroken at the end, but I'm stoked that it was a game. Tough to see that one slip away.

I just read HD's blog post on ESPN and I knew I shouldn't have. She's awful and I can't stand to read it anymore.

So proud of the young defense and the heart they showed tonight. They were hungry and showed up in a big way. I couldn't help but feel like it was the ACCCG all over again. EVERY CALL THEY REVIEWED GETTING REVERSED! I've never watched a Hokie game before and felt more robbed of a W! And I'm sorry, but DC19 caught that f#%$ing ball! That is all.....

I just realized ESPN will now give UM all the credit. I don't think they will acknowledge that VT outplayed them.

not to be all sour grapes ...

May the best team win, and if not, let Michigan win anyway

ND, the Ohio Community College of Columbus and Michigan State. There's really nothing we haven't seen before. Presumptuous or not, Howard did win the Heisman that year . . .

I am a Michigan apologist. In 2007 our program was in disarray after the death of our football godfather, Bo Schembechler. We lost four in a row after his passing, one of which was App State. We put the Mountaineers back on the schedule for 2014 so we could give them the drubbing that they deserve.

You all have made me feel welcome here and I am thankful to the community for the hospitality. May the best team win, and if not, let Michigan win anyway. I'm headed down to pre-game.

Cheers and Happy New Year.

Go Blue.

I really really love the first one <3
... and the losing to rivals one
... in fact, I'm having to work really hard to not link this to my Mich friend... that would be bad <.<

Easily the biggest guy out there...and he plays for the good guys now.

I am starting to get pumped for the game and a little nervous. Honestly at this point I've read so much conflicting material that I am ready for the game to start now just to settle my nerves. I guess I'll just drink zombies for that . . .
Couple of things I haven't touched on.

1) Michigan is 2-2 on the road this year. Michigan also tends to play more conservatively on the road. So if the crowd is hostile, they may not perform well. Michigan fans are not known for being loud, although this perception has had to be re-evaluated this year after The Game (OSU) and UTL (ND). Hopefully, we will be loud and I know I won't have any of my voice left on Wednesday. By contrast, VT is 6-1 on the road and can boast a hostile home field. Advantage VT

2) The line (Michigan -2.5) can't be trusted since it was moved from +1.5 due to the betting public. I don't know if it has been adjusted since kicker-gate, but I wouldn't suspect that to move the line any further.

Which leads me to the question of are VT fans going to be holding their breath when Myer is making PATs and short kicks? Or is that meme about him being bad at close range exaggerated?

TTB has a linebackers review up here. I hit on this in my Ask a Michigan Fan post. I have to agree that the advantage is in VT's favor especially when it comes to matchups against WLB Morgan. If you watch the film he is often out-matched and out of position. This comes with the territory as a true freshman.

I get to my hotel in NOLA and I'm running a fever, have chills, joint aches etc. Looking like another great NYE. #FML

I completely agree that it is a team effort. If we can only get the ball to the 25 yard line and our kicker has to attempt 15 field goals in the game then it is not the place kickers fault if we fail. The team has to be good enough to get in the end zone in order for us to beat Michigan.

But at the end of the day, the Staff made it very clear that curfew is something not to mess with. I just think about the LSU-Bama game earlier this season. Special teams kicking blew that game completely for Bama. I would just hate for that to happen to us due to a lack of discipline from our kickers for god sake. We need to win big games and stuff like this doesn't help. They may be kids, but as a Representative of the University and even the State you have to be able to step up and force yourself to be the bigger man for a few nights. (Hopefully Weiss has a damn good story for missing curfew... I'd hope it was something interesting and he is riding that greyhound saying.. damn.. it was almost worth it! what a night!)

We just don't need any more bad press. It is hard defending VT on a daily basis to all the UVA trolls at my office.

GO HOKIES!

I know a lot of people are angry at Weiss and Journell, but you have to remember they're just kids. To keep things in perspective Weiss broke a team rule, Journell broke the law. I did a lot of dumb shit in college, and at 21-years-old I think there's a very good chance I'd get caught up in everything the NOLA nightlife has to offer.

Like you said Weiss blew a huge opportunity. He's a redshirt senior, he let his teammates, his family, fans, etc down. He'll watch his final game. At the end of the day he's feeling worse than you or I.

Even if the game is decided by a made/missed field goal, we'll win or lose as a team.
