yeah west of the Miss ... bad.

Ok State
Mizzou
Auburn
Alabama
Virginia Tech
Utah

Breaking away from the NCAA would be difficult, as they would have to create an entirely new governing body to prevent rampant cheating (which is already a problem).

You also forgot Texas A&M, obviously a guaranteed. This drops the number of slots to 5 for the pickem group.

If OU/Okie St/Texas go Pac16 as assumed, that likely leaves 1 slot for Texas Tech/BYU/Boise/MWC fillers. The geographical locations of the superconferences really screws almost any school west of texas that's not already in. The eastern nobodies at least have spots in 3 conferences to fight for. I'm really starting to think the superconference idea is the worst thing possible for the have-nots (outside of pay-for-play).

my week 1 was about as busted as my freshman year gpa

here's to a better week 2...

OSU
Mizzou
War Eagle
Bama
Tech
Utes

I'll take:

Oklahoma State
Arizona State
Mississippi State
Alabama
ECU to get the points
Utah

with a 80% chance of bourbon.

hit the yard while i was moving the coals from the chimney fire starter.

I went inside for 5 mins to get the wings and holy shit, a 15'x30' section of grass was on a slow burn/fire. had to hose it all down.

super bowl sunday. that section stayed charred til spring and grass grew back. will drop a photo later.

didn't even seen it when i was writing this ...

this is more big, big picture and not ACC centric.

ACC gets scraps, won't be dictating anything.

I'd like to see USF, but that's only because I'd really enjoy us stomping on my parent's alma mater /evilgrin

WV joining would be fun too, get back to the Black Diamond game... I miss those games a lot. Shit got rowdy!

Oklahoma State
Missouri
Mississippi State
Alabama
Virginia Tech
Utah

OSU
Arizona St - want to touch the heiney
MSU - keep your shit together unlike USU
Bammer
VT - more trucking!!!!
Utah

Annnnd, I'll be drinking whatever shitty beer is served at the WEDDING I'm being dragged to this weekend.

All the while there is a Dogfish Head taphouse/brewpub less than a mile away. #fml

lets get better this week...

Cowboys
Mizzou
MSU
JoePa shocks the world
Hokies
Trojans

I actually did not go with Miller Lite last week, but settled on Wild Turkey instead. Look for more of the same this week.

But it's my personal opinion that both the ACC and possibly our beloved university were caught off guard by this year's conference realignment buzz. I think most thought we (the ACC and Virginia Tech) weathered the storm last offseason without any major effects and were not prepared for everything this year. I think we could be in a position where the ACC is forced to offer to a less than deserving university just to keep up with the Jones's. I am not for leaving the conference but I think Joe's Homer Simpson graphic somewhere else on the site says it best, I am terribly afraid that we will be too trusting of our fellow universities, agreeing to hold hands through the conference reshuffle and then all of a sudden a major ACC university bolts to the SEC. I think this thing is far from settled...

Arizona - Depends on if Criner plays, but I'm not sold on OK St defense.
Mizzou - Dennis Erickson still coaches ASU, right?
Auburn - I think MSU is much better but Auburn will somehow keep it close.
Alabama - It's not going to matter who's playing QB for PSU, they're getting hammered.
ECU - I think ECU will put up enough points to keep VT from running away with it.
Utah - Lane Kiffin sucks.

If we don't get or turn down a SEC invite I'd like to see the ACC add 4 teams.

1. Notre Dame
2. Pitt
3. Uconn
4. Syracuse

ND to the ACC isn't as far fetched as you'd think: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1660664. Eventually their sweetheart deal with the Big East is going to end, they'll need a conference for their non-revenue sports, and from everything I've read they'd prefer the ACC over the big east.

I think those four teams add new markets, recruiting areas and strengthen both the ACC's football and basketball offerings.

South Florida is an interesting candidate. They could deliver the Tampa market. Also, with Miami about to get leveled by the NCAA will USF emerge as the third best team in Florida? Regardless, I do agree that academics are important and USF isn't top of the class.

It's going to be a bumpy ride.

1. Arizona
2. Missouri
3. Alabama
4. Auburn
5. VT
6. USC

Jackal,

You are correct that they should dominate a team switching to a 3-4 that has less talent. The issue has been that the Hokies have not dominated those lesser defensive lines early in the season over the last few years. This is, at least, a positive step. Hopefully this is a start of better things to come.

Also, I just reviewed the snaps the Hokie coaching staff grading for the team, and it looks like the coaches analysis matched up with my review. (Source: http://www.hokiesports.com/notebook/2011/09/#000976 )

Andrew Miller lead the team with 5 pancake blocks and graded out at 91%.
Jaymes Brooks had 4 pancake blocks and graded out at 82 %

DeChristopher, Lainer, and Nosal combined for 5 pancake blocks, but graded out over 85%. To me, this again shows that they are proficient, but not dominant.

Oddly, they did not post a score for Becton, who had more snaps than any start. Wang, Painter, and Prince all had scores just under 90%.

WVU is on the SEC radar, but is far from guaranteed an invite. I'd LOVE to see the ACC add WVU and Pitt. They add value in every possible way, except for WVU's academics. I know the ACC is all about their academics, but we could provide WVU with incentives to improve. The ACC could give them 100% revenue sharing if they reach #115, 90% at #135, 80% at #155, or something similar. The ACC could also require them to put a percentage of their cut towards improving their academics.

I'd like to see us make the jump to 14 with these to first. The others are somewhat interchangeable to me. The New York/New England market doesn't care about college football, so I don't particularly like the thought of going after it. ECU is a no-go for us (but should be valuable to the Big East), we already have too many NC teams. I'd like to see who floats to the top without WVU and Pitt around.

I feel DW can break a long one as long as the o-line gives him the slightest bit of a hole. He had a ton of broken tackles, but I'm sure most of those were once he had his track speed building his momentum. I don't yet trust his ability to pound up the middle without solid blocking.
