we need raleigh hokie and we would.
Though great points about Vandy and UF, I respectfully disagree that the SEC has four 'excellent' academic institutions. The ACC/BIG/PAC 12 are the best academic conferences by far. You also have to factor in research along with AAU/SECAC status- those schools grants, though enormous, are not as heavily devoted to academic and professional research (though a historian, I am quoting other presentations on other message boards of professional academics- light research and reputation form my understandings). The ACC institutions, particularly UVA, VT, UNC, Duke, WF, Miami, Maryland and FSU (biological sciences), devote millions to undergraduate and graduate research in many individual DEPARTMENTS. We also forget about BC, which with UVA, UNC, and Duke is a top twenty OVERALL institution along with Ivy League schools, some Pac 12/BIG schools (Stanford, Cal, Michigan), service academies and Notre Dame.
Though having two to three great academic institutions (I think UF is even behind Kentucky due to Graduate School reputation), the SEC academically cannot compete or offer what the ACC does in these particular regards. If we go, we go for football and nothing else- I think academically it would be a terrible decision but the money may outweigh the immediate issues.
/TSL'D Again?
Nike really seems to like the HOKIES! I love all the different combinations we have used over the years. I agree white is a lil boring, but every team in every sport has to have it. I would even like to see all orange everything(helmet too)! Only questions is.....can we win in orange?
Hahahaha...yes. Hurricane Nevin stuck the eastern seaboard, particularly in Coral Gables and other ACC Campus towns.
faster than hosley for the football. #truth

i love you. lol
You're on to something.
I am excited for the promise that Logan has. I expect mistakes and I don't expect him to be Tyrod Taylor. However, I am hoping to see Logan offer two things that Tyrod didn't:
1) The quick release of a pass and hitting receivers in rythem. I still think Hokie QB's are taught to extend the play and look for receivers to break open on broken plays rather than throw the ball away. Tyrod was great at it, other Hokie QB's, eh not so much.This makes up for what for the most part is a simplified passing attack (coupled with poor route running.) As result, Hokie QB's all the way back to Al Clark have taken more sacks than I would have liked, and, they tend not to hit receivers in stride. The classic example I reflect back to is against Florida State in the 2nd quarter. Tyrod hit a wide open Danny Coale on the left sideline after a scramble for a large gain. My initial reaction was "great play by TT!" but after seeing the replay, Coale was wide open initially on the route, Tyrod held onto the ball too long, and then needed to scramble away. A lesser athlete would have taken a sack on what should have been an easy completion. Hopefully with Logan, the ball will get out quicker and our receivers can make more plays.
2) LT's size and athleticism may be the Hokies awnser to any concerns about David Wilson's ability to get tough between the tackles yardage 25+ carries a game. If they do use LT as a set-play runner ala a single wing tailback, he could be the thunder to Wilson's lightening. For all of Tyrod's elusiveness, he wasn't someone that was going to break tackles or get tough short yardage yards.
I am hopeful. I just hope the defense can get off the field against Appy State and ECU so Logan can get as many snaps as possible before the ACC schedule kicks off.

Michael Vick was a first year starter (green).
Hokies were ranked 13th preseason.
VT had a "weak" schedule.
25th year for the former number 25 jersey.
hmmmm....
Maybe we run the table again, but his time win it all.
of the stress could be relayed by singer/songwriter Marshal Mathers in his hit "Lose Yourself" wherein he states:
"He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs"
The pressure would give me an ulcer. That's why I'm writing this from my desk job right now...
I just hope LT doesn't have my video on loop. Each playback = a sip of the VT + MNC kool-aid.
Can you imagine being LT on the morning of 9/3. I would throw up with anxiety. Hopefully D wil lights it up and he takes some of the unrealistic exception's away. I am more comfortable joking about 2k rushing yards from number 4 than having number 3 be the next cam newton.

oh thats glorious

AREWETHEREYET? AREWETHEREYET?
Or at least I'm pretty sure. I had to take a screenshot as it went by. Let's hope LT3 takes off like the aforementioned RB's when they took over, although QB is not a good position for immediate expectations.
I cannot wait to see what Logan does, and I think he will eventually turn into as good a quarterback as Tyrod was and is. But it will take some time, and im just hoping that by the time we play Bama next, Logan gives them fits. But for now, we have an outstanding receiving corps, a running back who eats chik-fil-a on Sunday's, and a pretty good defense that must be better than last year. We must stop the run this year. If we do that, LT will look that much better. Is it Saturday or even September yet?
the rocket moves too fast to see who is riding on it
If the super conference comes -and this really may be just when - I believe it will be 3 not 4 in number. This post may be long, so bear with me.
ISSUE #1
Stability matters, and only 2.75 conferences can claim this mantle. The B1G and SEC are pretty much the same as they were 100 + years ago. The current PAC has at its core the old PCC, and save the massive cheating scandal that brought it down in 1956, still functions with unity for around 100 years or so. Sure they got a new PAC body, but the PCC engine and frame are still underneath. Not only do these 3 conferences have long term stability, they have long term brand names. Sure Miami and Florida State have been hot in the last generation, they pale in comparison to the long term history of SoCal, Michigan, Alabama, and the long term stalwarts who are concentrated in these 3 conferences. You are happy to own Apple or Google now, but Exxon and Procter & Gamble have been paying dividends for at least the past CENTURY ! If we can agree that nobody will raid the B1G, PAC, or SEC, we may just disagree on who can be poached after that. The ACC does not have an Exxon, and the probability of getting one approaches zero.
ISSUE #2
Size matters. Each added school getting to 16 must beat the current conference average. Look at stadium sizes for an indication of who will advance, and who will get left behind. Look at this list and see if you see a trend:
100,000 + seating = ZERO in the ACC
B1G = 3 [Michigan State,Penn State,Ohio State] / SEC = 2 [Alabama,Tennessee] / B12 = 1 [Texas]
90,000 + seating = ZERO in the ACC
SEC = 2 [Georgia,Louisiana] / PAC = 2 [UCLA,USC]
80,000 + seating = TWO in the ACC [Florida State, Clemson]
B1G = 2 [Wisconsin,Nebraska] / SEC = 3 [Florida,Auburn,South Carolina] / B12 = 2 [Oklahoma,Texas A&M] / IND = 1 [Notre Dame]
70,000 + seating = ZERO in the ACC
B1G = 2 [Michigan State,Iowa] / SEC = 1 [Arkansas] / PAC = 3 [California,Arizona State,Washington] / B12 = 1 [Missouri]
Now look at the above list if TAMU joins the SEC, Notre Dame and Missouri join the B1G, and Texas and Oklahoma join the PAC
B1G = NINE 70K+ stadiums
SEC = NINE 70K+ stadiums
PAC = SEVEN 70K+ stadiums
ACC = TWO 70K+ stadiums
How can the ACC become a viable 4th Super Conference with such a disadvantage (especially when both Florida State and Clemson have been mentioned as possible SEC 16 schools).
ISSUE #3
"It's the economy, stupid" via Bill Clinton is revised as "it's the economy of scale, stupid" for conference realignment, so look who is "on the bubble" to get one of the last 12 spots in realignment (5 if you take away the 4 in the PAC, Notre Dame and Missouri in the B1G, and TAMU in the SEC). Lets go down to 60K+ stadiums:
60,000 + seating = THREE in the ACC
ACC = [Virginia Tech,Virginia,North Carolina]
B1G = 2 [Purdue,Illinois] / SEC = 2 [Kentucky,Mississippi] / B12 = 1 [Texas Tech,Oklahoma State] / BE = 2 [Pittsburgh,West Virginia] IND = 1 [BYU]
Granted UVA and UNC are on this list, but they are closer to NC State at the bottom than Virginia Tech at the top. VT is a football school that has no current in state SEC rival + adds TV sets + has a current stadium close to the 70K "entry minimum" of schools in the 3 future Super Conferences. 2 Mid level conferences may form [BE + ACC + ?? scraps east of the Mississippi] + [B12 + WAC + MWC scraps west of the Mississippi]. The rest will reform as bottom feeders like the MAC and Sun Belt.
In short, a few schools will move up in conference realignment, but most will fall behind into second class status. It looks like only 5 slots remain, and the clock is winding down.
