He might slip into the bottom of first round, but he's not nearly polished enough for the Redskins to select him with the fourth overall pick. According to the guys at Mocking the Draft he's not even on their board in the first three rounds.

However, if the 'Skins are smart, and there are suitors available they may try to turn their first round pick into a a couple of picks. Realistically they could select a couple of linemen, one of which may end up being Wang.

Counting your chickens or just being optimistic? I love what Tyrod 'can' do its just a matter of what he 'will' do.

I think getting back to the ACC Championship will be challenging especially with away games at an improving Miami and thorn in our ass UNC, but I think we have the talent and experience to do it. As a fanatical homer, any other prediction would be irresponsible.

Hopefully by the next time we play at Byrd technology will have advanced to the point where we can embed animated gifs onto shirts.

I could watch that Evans gif for hours.

And yesterday, I did.

You know I'm not big on stats as evaluators but the percentages of production lost are always telling. My guess is they'll "make a tight end" to add some depth. Whether that means using a freshman, going with an extra tackle etc to give that 2 tight look and blocking ability. However, with the plethora of WR talent I do expect 2nd and medium or less to become a "take a shot" down instead of a shoo-in for a power-O.

That would definitely be amazing, because I, much like everyone else, am worried out of mind about our depth across the defensive line.

The spring prospectus has Hopkins as the other No. 1 DT. Beamer must have had a change of heart after that depth chart was decided. Hopefully this just means that Battle has stepped his game up and we now have three legit defensive tackle options.

I'm a fan of the move. Like you said, it's nice to have another playmaker on the field. Oglesby's a big kid. He probably needs to pack on some more muscle, but it shouldn't be too hard over summer. Once that happens, I think he'll make a nice fullback.

Of course, that all depends on Evans.

Initially I didn't like the move. Josh O is a beast and a tough runner, but that doesn't necessarily make him a fullback. Can anyone enlighten me to whether or not he's taken reps at fullback before? Because of that, the uncertain status of Darren Evans (hey we all hope he's healthy but who knows) and Oglesby's contributions at crucial times last year (Duke game comes to mind) I would have been happier hearing he's going to take reps at both positions. However, that maybe, and probably implies Darren is doing phenomenal and the coaches think Josh O will have a high chance to succeed at fullback. One huge positive is we'll have another playmaker on the field.

Other Notes from Beamer's Teleconference include:

  • Bruce Taylor is at Mike.
  • Cris Hill is backing up Carmichael at the boundary corner.
  • Freshman Jerrodd Williams is backing up Hosley at the field corner.
  • Kwamaine Battle is the first string defensive tackle opposite John Graves.
  • Jake Johnson will practice at defensive end.

This was a way to make myself feel better after the collapse at the end of the basketball season.

Love the chart. Sadly we cannot claim dominance over UVA and although every year since 2002 we should beat them we don't so one of those 5-8 wins is ours by default.
Love the new digs and I'm excited about the new site.

That's how long Harper's season lasted, a season ended prematurely by a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

It was a devastating blow, but one Harper is determined won't derail his career. He has impressed doctors and coaches with his approach to rehab, beating expectations by participating in some individual, non-contact drills this spring.

"We're expecting him to pick up where he left off," said coach Chris Petersen, whose team scattered for spring break Friday and returns to practice April 5. "The only reason I say that is because of how far along he is in his rehab and how he looks right now."

Yeah. I knew there was something like that for UConn, but was to lazy to check up.

Frankly, looking at the strong teams in the conference now (WVU, South Florida, Cinci, Rutgers), I would have been completely wrong in my guesses in 2004. I would have expected Pitt to do something, as well as Louisville and Syracuse. I guess those teams no showing for a few years there (and continuing to do so, for the last two) really helped out the UConns, Rutgers, and South Floridas.

It's kind of similar to Wake/GT back in 06, when Miami and FSU weren't playing at the levels everyone expected. But that may be a bit of a stretch.

At this point, I have no idea what my point was. It's more of an observation.

Players of the scrimmage

First-team defense

The display from the first-teamers was breathtaking. They looked to be in midseason form in holding Kellen Moore's first-team offense to three consecutive three-and-outs. And the offense wasn't even close to getting a first down. If I could put those three series in a bottle and save them until Virginia Tech, I totally would.

UConn wasn't an expansion team. They were a founding member of the conference without a I-A football team. The only change VT, BC and Miami leaving had on UConn was they played a full Big East schedule a year sooner. Having a weaker conference definitely helped them pick up a couple more "marquee" wins.

I agree, I don't think Rutgers would have had a 11 win season but 7-6, 8-5 bowl seasons aren't bad for the second worst team in the conference.

You think that UConn and even Rutgers would have experienced the success they have, if VT/Miami/BC had stayed in the Big East?

I tend to think they benefited from the realignment somewhat. Also, was UConn a football expansion, or were they going to the Big East for football anyway? I can't remember, and I'm too lazy to wiki.

man, now i gotta hate d-tapp. really liked that guy. me and joe had a rocks for jocks lab with the guy; real quiet and generally just a nice guy.
