Even for the level of competition, if this was any other year besides a massive rebuild where players probably could use time playing together before the competition ramps up, I might agree with you. I'd rather have an easy opponent to work out any of the kinks we might have. If we destroy them, all the better, but the players we had on the roster last year weren't destroying anybody.

We still have an offseason where our portal activity might be mind-boggling. I'm very curious to see what our roster looks like next year and how many starters we had this year actually return.

I agree with others here. There is a grey area, and this is well within it.

When a team gets a physician who is a little too "player advocat-y", it can be a hindrance to the main goal of "high performance, low maintenance".

This actually happens in every organization. There is often some squeaky wheel who is perceived as going overboard to the point of freezing the organization to the point where they are no longer able to perform their mission. You need a balance, but some employees can't find that.

In this case, the guy and his lawyers GOT PAID. I notice nobody else hired him as a team physician, or ever will.

And there is never a bright solid line which is crossed and one can easily identify the point at which it is 100% safe to play.

It is always a crapshoot and differing opinions as well as human emotions to contend with.

Then there is the case that most Dr.'s and lawyers will be risk averse, coaches and players less so or even risk tolerant.

I should qualify my comment. I don't believe we should open next year with VMI just due to the profile. If we are going to play at that level then YES let it be VMI, just not the opener.

My comment was directed at the level of competition, not the school. Much respect for VMI.

Finley is an extreme case but I think reasonable minds can agree that its a pretty ridiculous situation and exploitation of a broken "system." I do wonder how much NIL a guy like this really commands though??

But between cases like this and Diego Pavia acting like a massive D-Bag post-Heisman, I think the public's receptiveness to repeated and decreasingly rational Eligibility Extensions is going to wane quickly.

Now the Courts, that's another situation entirely.

Apparently he tries to make the "cool" play like sidearming or throwing on the run rather than the simple plant your foot and throw. Would be a major upgrade for us but would probably frustrate the crap out of fans. There's better options IMO

So James was pestering this guy to clear players for action when the guy didn't think they were ready? I am sure it happens a lot between coaches and team docs. I am not condoning it, something to watch out for. I would like to know if the players were pushing on the same way or if Coach was pushing the players too. If the player is saying he's ready and the coaches think he looks ready and the doc is saying no, I could see how this situation could start to get gray.

I just saw that he played at three high schools in three different states, and committed to three different colleges before signing.

Looks like a pattern.
