I'm not trying to be argumentative; however I think the criticism has merit.
If we are judging by best win, then we also need to look at worse loss. No one has a valid point to counter losing to a horrible FSU team.
And the fact that Bama played, at the time, four teams that were in the top 20 shows how much subjectivity is present in the whole system. Two SEC opponents that were in the top 15 at the time Bama won are now 8-4 and unranked. You could argue that the SEC just means more, but does it? Why? Missouri did not beat a single ranked team all season. Neither did Tennessee. Every ranked team they played, beat them. We could say the same exact thing, and it would be correct. So why are these good wins for Bama? They wouldn't be for anyone else.
The SEC does have good players, coaches, revenue, and the narrative is well supported by pundits. They also seem to be significantly overrated early in the year, and it get's boring to some of us. Roll Indiana I guess.
Rumors that Price is dealing with health stuff, that's the primary driver for moving him to an analyst role
"So, Stinespring basically" AUGH!!!! Please, don't mention that name to me!

Without O&M glasses these are pretty poor hires. To me it likely underscores poor process, or not taking the job/the ACC seriously.
This is stuff where the coach will look back at a presser in a few years and say "maybe it wasn't a good idea to bring the recently fired head coach back into the same locker room" and "maybe it wasn't a good idea to hire a guy who hasn't been solely responsible for an offense and calling plays to be the offensive coordinator".
No this isn't some you learn was a bad idea in 3 years and say "oh shucks." It's a bad idea RIGHT NOW. The program is spending way too much money for this
I'm fine with Price in an off field role but the defense stunk out loud...
The interior DL, where we had talent, was pretty good. I'd have no problem with Price staying as DL coach, save for the rumors about Spencer coming in.
Last I checked Net Success Rate doesn't trump points on the scoreboard. Both teams got their asses kicked up and down the field, neither gained a significant amount of yardage and both lost in blowout fashion. Neither one of them were remotely successful. For BYU it was the second time getting blown out by Texas Tech.
The other piece about BYU is yes they dropped one spot but if they had not dropped one spot, they still dont make the CFP at 11 due to two lower ranked conference champions getting in.
I don't know. Guess it depends on if we have a real QB coach that can improve a VT QB. You know, like we haven't had in what, 20 or 30 years?
But Franklin was always considered to be a better recruiter than in game coach...
Well, he has Pry to help him with the in-game stuff. ;^)
[ducks]
lol if you increment everything by 100 maybe. Our class is significantly better than Pry's...Pry is significantly more qualified than Marve. TBD on the OC.
Saw 6 new comments on the thread and was thinking, what, did Franklin hire Ricky Rahne for the VT staff? No, I guess not.
Great recruiter and TE coach but I'd prefer to have an experienced play caller. Apparently VT is just completely allergic to having an experienced OC no matter who the head coach is
Let's be fair, no matter who is OC or DC, the fan base will blast them at the first three and out or 85 yard TD run. /s
New head coach who wants to do Penn State at Virginia Tech, two poor coordinator hires but excitement around recruiting and signing the best recruiting class in several years.
Is this at all familiar ๐ค
I would take Stinespring's early 2000s offenses over Pry & Co's early 2020s offenses in a heartbeat. Having the right Jimmy's and Joes covers up a lot of poor x's and o's.
He should have tried to bring that personality to anonymity of the internet. Because the personality he brought here, I couldn't stand.
This is false
Net success rate (shown in the tweet) pretty unequivocally proves this to be true.
I'm not sure what other measure not factored into net success rate could even be used it disprove that
So, Stinespring basically

Not even the spring game in the books and it's over from the comments.
should OSU not be punished? Should Indiana still be #2? Either the game counts or it doesn't. If Alabama didn't want to get penalized for playing like crap then they should have played better
The counterpoint to this is who is BYU's best win then? Utah? That is the only other ranked team they played this season.
Bama played 4 ranked games in a row this season and went 4-0. They beat #16 Vanderbilt, #5 UGA, #14 Missouri, and #11 Tennessee in four consecutive weeks. Alabama has one bad loss opponent wise but the other two are to CFP teams Oklahoma and Georgia.
Alabama opponents had a .564 winning% (68-52) while BYU's had a .470 (62-70). It sucks to be able to justify it but this year Bama was better against better opponents than BYU.
To be clear - The first perpetrator joined the baylor football team in 2008. Arrests started in 2012. Baylor launches an investigation in 2015. Outside the Lines and Bruce Feldman both breaking parts of the scandal in 2016.
Montgomery was employed by Baylor from 2008 through 2014. As far as I can tell, there is no evidence that he was any more or less 'involved' in the scandal than Kendall was.
Bennett and Lebby are arguably the worst of the assistants (based on what is known publicly), but neither of them have faced many headwinds as they continued their career after Baylor (Lebby did invite his former coach/father-in-law on the field at OU which led to him conveniently landing at Miss State). Kendall, Montgomery, Dino Babers, a few other names are also on that coaching tree.
Stu Holt, Derek Jones, Prioleau (sorry but Safety play was horrid), Quinn are back on Staff, I am going to officially go from excited to bordering on pessimistic.
Unfortunately you can add Adibi to this list.
Frankly, no one from the defensive staff should be retained. I'm fine with Price in an off field role but the defense stunk out loud and the increased budget (and wildly underwhelming OC hire) needs to fund better position coaches or I'm going to be more than pessimistic.
I don't see how you can look at those numbers by year and say that isn't "good".
Yeah, he ain't Kirby Smart at 'Bama or Bud Foster.... But there are top 10 years in there.
I understand and somewhat agree with your hesitation on how it kinda yo-yos though
I am now getting increasingly antsy regarding the rest of the Staff....if any one or a comibination of:
Stu Holt, Derek Jones, Prioleau (sorry but Safety play was horrid), Quinn are back on Staff, I am going to officially go from excited to bordering on pessimistic.
Rumor is Price is going to take an off-field Position and Siefkies and Monty I think speak for themselves.
I am ambivalent about Mines (not sure he's much of a developer) and Brooks I would generally like back ( I doubt Seider leaves ND, but would take him over Brooks).
