This thread will capture all players coming home to Blacksburg via the transfer portal. I'll update this thread periodically as players announce they are taking their talents to Southbeachwest VA.
- This link (originally shared by Superman Those Hoos - here) is really useful for tracking headcount/scholarship numbers
- This link to 247 (shared by freefall here) is a sortable database of (almost) everyone in the portal
- This thread shamelessly copied from bar1990's outgoing transfer thread
General editorial feedback is welcome and encouraged. Go Hokies!

Hoping to see an OL next.
Getting a top target WR is great, but if we can't get the run game going to open the pass, next year is going to be another rough one.
Ideally we would take more than one.
It looks like the staff is content with developing what we have on the roster. The next big needs based on offers are DE and DB.
Time will tell, we have a lot of underclassmen at that position. Hopefully another year of getting a system together and hitting the weights has that unit making a big jump. We can hold out hope that maybe one PSU or Wiscy player wants to follow their coach, but I haven't heard rumors about that.
Since a solid OL operates on cohesion amongst the players, if the coaches feel like these kids will mature and perform better next year and progress together, I'm fine with it.
Kinda surprised I've never seen this meme used on TKP.
Cohesion is nice and all unless they quite literally can't operate the blocking scheme, which was the case this year. I don't think we fix it in the portal either, I just think we'll have shit OL play for another year or two
Not necessarily? OL is a position relative to others where player development matters more and recruiting rankings matter less. It's not implausible to me that we can get a lot better just developing the dudes we have, or more likely, that it's a position group that needs to be coached up from freshman recruits over time, rather than one that can be patched with transfers.
It's really a supply and demand issue across the entire sport. Just not enough quality linemen are out there to meet team's needs
Anna Kendrick is an underdog sleeper who has methodically climbed her way near the top of my celebrity hall pass list.

Is that.... Is she.....
well ok then
Excuse me while I research her filmography and find what this is all about...
let me know what movie you wear out, would like to know the context of this scene as she usually does comedies
I wonder how she feels about Beards

Trust me, your boss would like to see it.
I assure you, she doesn't
This is exactly how I feel about the "Butts for Mutts" gif that is common on this site. I'd much prefer that the URL is provided if there is a NSFW gif that is used. It's just out of respect, if just for the females on this site.
Oh that's a good point and I am definitely guilty of posting that one a couple times. I will definitely refrain from now on.
Yeah, wasn't sending shade your way Alum, honestly, I quick scroll and rarely see who posted it LOL. Moreover, thanks for hearing my point.
This is a rare example of respectful discourse on the internet, so thank you both π somtimes feels few and far between nowadays
Give it a few minutes. It will pass.
Please link to GIFs that I don't want my boss seeing as he walks by. Or my wife for that matter
On the contrary, my boss (me) and my girlfriend, both thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm.... ok with this, surprisingly
I thought the OL showed signs of improvement toward the end of the year. It definitely took them a while, but you could see it in glimpses here and there over the last few games. I think a more consistent scheme and some better execution at the skills positions and we are probably feeling a bit different about the offense as a whole than we did last year.
I like the adds we've made so far. Teams will have to respect us being able to throw, so they won't be able to pin their ears back and throw everything at stopping the run every play. That alone should help a lot.
I agree. OL is such a hard position to project success that it's hard for me to say "let's bring in transfer Jimmy Jim Bob Jones AKA "Kevin" because they are a starter at this other school and they will immediately improve our OL play next year". So for me I just would like to see 5 new faces in the OL room without any real significant losses and focus on camp competition and development. A quick look at 24/7 tells me we have 4 committed freshman. So if we can take at least one OL transfer from the portal I'll be okay with it. At minimum 5 new faces will provide lots more depth and healthy competition. If any of them can pull significant minutes or start games for us that's even better.
This one is more fun
Thanks for setting this up. And thanks for using tables. Love me some tables.
I should thank you. I have to search for your how to do tables post everytime I make one.
You could always check with LittleBobbyTables......
Make your table (including headers) in Excel or some other spreadsheet program
Go to this link
Copy your table area in Excel, paste in text window on Tableizer page and click button
Copy all of the text in the new text box, and paste into post.
Find part that says [table class="tableizer-table"], change to [table class="blog_statistics"] (but with < and > instead of [ and ], this changes to TKP look-and-feel)
You're done.
Or you can copy the table to Imgur and then use the message board link to copy directly into TKP using the top left icon above when you open a comment.

I've gotten a ton of updates that are too hard to keep track of on my Bleacher Report mobile app. I'll try to keep this up to date.
Edit: original list was a copy/paste from this link, a lot of the names that came up on my BR app were included in the link above, so I used it as a starting point, and then hyperlinked the 247 URL's for each player and brief height/weight stats
Edit: * means "Got'Em" (link of commitment on asterik)
Any chance we'd still offer Grayson McCall?
I'd love to figure out the table format, any links on how to employ that here on the thread?
consult the TKP sages...
This is what I search for everytime I make a table, because my brain is swiss cheese. Thanks again hokie07me.
That's it.
Depending on how the rest of this month shakes out, this has to be one of the most exciting December's in VT football in years.
Can't lose in a crappy bowl if you don't go to a crappy bowl.
Edit: Potentially wrong thread
247 currently has our incoming transfer class as 6th nationally
https://247sports.com/Season/2023-Football/TransferTeamRankings/
And 31 overall, 36 in composite, and 6th in the ACC!
Gotta wonder if UL's or UNC's classes will fall off due to coaching changes (HC at UL, OC at UNC)
We can only hope and prey on their recruits.
I honestly thought it would get more legs. But I appreciate at least a couple people caught it.
Oh, I saw what you did there and liked it. Don't know why I didn't give you a leg the first time I read it - maybe because I thought about replying and then got sidetracked. Stupid ADD.
I know the ranking is driven largely by size of class, but it sure would be nice if 31st nationally is the absolute floor for this staff.
I wouldn't say it's largely driven by class size. We would only drop two spots if we went by average. And class size does matter, we would probably have slightly better depth right now if the 2020 class was normal sized. Taking such a small class that year was a result of Fuente's poor roster management, so the small-class-size penalty in the rankings was reflective not only of that staff's inability to convince players to join the program but also their inability to manage the roster.
Not sure this data is accurate. Currently it has us at 25 and UVA way ahead of us. It says we only have two incoming transfers.
It also says Kaleb Smith has 3 years of eligibility and DJ Harvey has 4.
Didn't see it elsewhere, we offered Donovan McMillon, he has since committed to Pitt
Just for some housekeeping -- we are using this other thread (link) to discuss potential targets.
The thread we're in is to help keep track of confirmed portal commits to VT.
Now that the dust has almost settled on this transfer portal window I got to thinking about our pickups. We've had a lot of talk about how this recruiting class raised our floor, but the portal pickups may have raised our ceiling, even if ever so slightly. 247 currently has us at 37th for our transfer class with an average rating of 90.33 and a few more grades to be updated (that might shift the average down some since I don't think the HS grades are currently part of the equation). I added in everyone's 247 grades to the sheet and will update them as they are regraded as transfers.
Also, it's just nice to see that the staff seemingly came in with a plan. If we can get our OL together and iron out a scheme/identity in the off-season we might actually show some signs of life on the offensive side of the ball next year.
I'd you go by average ranking we are 13th in xfer ranking. Ten teams above us are all teams that we shouldn't expect to compete with for recruits. Then there is Purdue and BYU who did quite well.
Jaylin Lane regraded to .88, moving the transfer class to 35th overall with an average of 89.75. Still waiting on Canteen and Tuten, but as-is it looks like the talent at skill positions should be elevated by this class, especially on offense.
https://247sports.com/Player/Jaylin-Lane-46093950/
With everybody regraded our average sits at 89.5 with the 27th best transfer class currently. Two ββββ, four βββ, and a longsnapper with the last name ARMSTRONG. I feel pretty freaking good about this overall. As others have noted, I am a little worried about the trenches, but we look to be taking a good step forward everywhere else. Looking forward to the Spring Game and hoping that the offensive staff has put together an actual offense since the LU game.
