Football Forum
Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.
Part 1 got to be over 500 comments in the span of 9 days, and the thread just became a bit unwieldy to follow, especially on mobile.
So I'm bringing up a Part 2.
Lets continue to discuss the mess that college football has become.
One of the Mods, feel free to lock the previous thread when you get a chance.

Contrarian take.
NIL leveled the playing field for schools like VT. All we need is a few good players (portal or recruits) to make our return to relevance and we while we don't have the same mega boosters as some schools, our fan base has strong in HHI and sheer numbers, which NIL allows us to leverage as an asset.
Whereas prior to Nil, folks like myself were on the sideline without a clear way to make an impact.
Thought process...
VT was built on 1-2 5 star players, a great team with of coached up players, an aggressive system defense, and special teams.
The formula worked and I still think it would work. The challenge has been getting the next Tyrod Taylor, David Wilson, Kendal Fuller, etc.

On his 7th circle directly over Scott Stadium and going strong.

Oooh boy that should be an interesting crowd that weekend.

And several other assistant coaches.
Brutal. Even more evidence why, when the 12 team playoff comes, the bowls need to go away.

Well that time has come again. The Bowl Pool for "the Key Play" has been opened. Password #LOLuva.
Good luck everybody.

Split Zone Duo (like every niche podcast) did a ketchy end of season award show (link). Brent Pry was 'nominated' for 'best proof of concept shown by a first or second year head coach.' They go on to compare/contrast what Brent Pry is doing at VT to what Brent Key is doing at GT. Discussion starts at 50:50 and goes for close to 10 minutes.

The other portal thread was getting hard to load. Now we can have a VT portal entires, VT portal offers thread and a separate thread to talk about portal overall, argue about "the sport has changed" and other fun topics without bogging down the VT portal thread.

maxANDcheese suggested the existing Portal topic had gotten unwieldy, and a new thread was warranted.
I tabulated the info from that previous thread. Please post your additions, corrections, and suggestions.
Table should be self-explanatory, and includes our incoming/outgoing roster and potentials.
I don't know if an original topic can be edited, so I'll put table in the first post so I can keep it updated.

It appears the FSU screwjob might have just been the beginning. Not hard to see the writing on the wall here that this is a formal plan to split the SEC and Big Ten away from everyone else, effectively leaving schools like Virginia Tech behind.

Herbstreit: The year it changed was '99, when we went to Virginia Tech. Frank Beamer was trying to build a program, from a regional program to a national program. He had a national player in Michael Vick. People in California, in Florida—they didn't know what a Hokie was. They didn't know where Blacksburg was. Well, Beamer looked at GameDay as a 48-hour infomercial on his campus.
Beamer: That's the way I looked at it. Anytime you can get your brand on national TV and show what you're all about, you can't buy that kind of advertisement.

Looks like Tulane will be without backup Quarterback and top Wide Receiver due to the portal. Expect quite a few more are coming so drop them in this thread as they come up.

In a throwback to some of the old Metro Conference battles in basketball, Virginia Tech will play a very solid Tulane Green Wave team in the Military Bowl.
I have not seen any Tulane footage yet this year, and they didn't play any like opponents. Tulane beat the USC Trojans in an exciting Cotton Bowl next year. Breaking yesterday, Tulane head coach Willie Fritz is leaving the program to take the head coaching job at Houston. Slade Nagle, the OC, will be the interim coach for the bowl.
