Has anyone heard yet about away tickets they have applied for? I reached out to the ticketing office a few weeks ago and they said we should know by end of August but I haven't heard anything which means either I didn't get any away tickets OR they're running a bit behind. Wanted to see what others have heard anything!
Go Hokies
The season is finally upon us after a long off-season of coaching changes, conference realignments, and being teased with that Nebraska meltdown last week. I for one am really looking forward to starting this weekend by letting the hate flow through me watching the Backyard Brawl. Someone is going to make an ass of themselves (outside of Pat's usual routine) and it is going to be quality entertainment.
What will y'all be watching? Leave your comments here:

There is a great quote from Pry. "One of the things I look at first is this: I want to see guys running by people to get to the football, "Pry said. "No regard for their body." No matter what the outcome of each game this season, the defense playing with great physicality and pursuit will be my barometer of success this season.
Looks like the ACC is going to fall further behind...now it's the Big 12 that'll be ahead of us.

Hope everyone had an exciting week 0 I'm sitting comfortably at 1-1 on my bets and I'm back kinda early this week, about to head to my bachelor party for a long weekend in the sportsbook. A few of these lines are still fluctuating quite a bit (UNC is now a dog on some sites (lol), VT -8.5 some places) but this is current as of this morning (8/30) according to oddshark.
I'll take any and all feed back on format, for now I'm listing all ACC games that have odds and a 4-6 other matchups across the country that are intriguing.
ACC:
There isn't a whole lot of corn on the cob here, but Hokiesports has released their game week preview.

Great read by Steven Godfrey in the WaPo on VT/Fuente/Pry.
Nothing ground breaking here, but there are some very honest quotes about the past administration - Whit admits to making a "$9 million mistake" with Fuente, and Pry described Fuente as "a good Midwestern guy that didn't have in his plan and vision all the things that I think most people believe and now fully realize are really important to Tech's success."
We made it through the muck of the Offseason and its finally here
GAME WEEK
Coach Pry was on the Sports Junkies this morning, they air of out Washington DC on 106.7 The Fan if you don't know.
Fun interview, the nugget I didn't know was apparently Pry bought Fuente's old house, and then had to change out all the floors to give it a new feel. Hopefully all the bad mojo went with it.
Not a lot of exciting games today, but CFB is back.
Early observation: is Mark Whipple's Nebraska offense legit? I'm glad he's not still in the ACC, but he might ruin my Northwestern cover for today.
It's that time of year against folks! One week till kick off! Let the hate flow through you!!
Sticky Ricky thinks that Justin Fuente didn't get a fair shot at head coach.
Ricky Rahne thinks that Tim Tebow is why Tyler Bowen left Jacksonville.
I thought it was an interesting listen. Bud talks with them for about 25 minutes (starting 5 minutes in.)
Bud talks about the Lunch Pail coming back after being retired by the previous regime. He also talks about his personal relationship with Pry over the years.
Was interesting to hear that Bud was offered a DC position in the USFL by Larry Fedora.
He seems like he is very happy in retirement.
Saw this from Andy Bitter this a.m. Posted b the VT Football Twitter.
Are we to assume this is back for Gameday?
Got excited. Sorry can't embed tweet.

With the start of the 2022 campaign just a few days away, the thought crossed my mind, what was the best opener we've had in the last decade (omitting 2021, for recency bias). In my definition, best means the best product put on the field for game 1. When are we clicking the best, outcome be damned? We just looked good.
In chronological order, we have
2011: v App State 66-13 W
2012: v Georgia Tech 20-17 W (OT)
2013: (n) Alabama 35-10 L
2014: v William & Mary 34-9 W
2015: v Ohio State 42-24 L
2016: v Liberty 36-13 W
2017: n West Virginia 31-24 W
2018: @ Florida State 24-3 W
2019: @ Boston College 35-28 L
2020: v NC State 45-24.
It's that time of the year for all of you degenerates like me ready to lose their ass betting on 18-22y/o carrying around an egg shaped object. I think hokieME usually does these but I'm getting the mid week itch and its Week 0 so there aren't really many teams to read across.
The Nebraska Line is intriguing. Neutral site (in Ireland?). Nebraska throttle NW last year but its a completely new team.

Hayden Wolf- I watched their bowl game footage. He throws a pretty ball. Very slow footwork mechanics. It will be critical for the Hokies to take away the middle of the field and get quick pressure. He takes a long time to get set up to throw. He isn't a run threat.
WDBJ's Travis Wells named the new Assistant Athletic Director For Strategic Communications.
His chief job will be handling media relations for the football program, such as writing game notes, arranging interviews and moderating press conferences.
Always a consummate professional, I think Travis will increase the quality of our press conferences and hopefully help foster a better relationship between the coaching staff, players, and the beat writers.
