Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.
Nothing groundbreaking, but I thought it was good listen. VT talk is from 39:55 to 47:25
On Brent Pry:
Brent Pry, my boy comes down from Penn state. I love the hire. How could I not? Brent pry is pure masculinity. Dan, from the beard to the hair, to the pants that are apparently a little too tight. The rugged outsider, Very rugged, very outside. There is a mountain man, quality to Brent pry that if you've ever driven the I 81 corridor at Western Virginia it'll play there...
On our outlook for the season:

Doing flips for a photo op coming off ACL repair seems a bit aggressive, but I am not an orthopedic specialist.
In related news, I wonder if he sticks with TE, or do the staff see his upside at the WILL spot on defense and look at him there. As I have noted in my previews, the WILL/boundary linebacker is the most critical position on the defense, requiring a unique blend of length, speed, and a heavy shoulder at the point of attack. Pry's NFL guys tend to come from that position (Brandon Smith, Micah Parsons, etc.)
Practice starts tomorrow.

If you wanna skip the timelapse and just see the end, screencap here.

Our highest peak was in 2010 where we were tied for 3rd most. I'm surprised we still ranked 13th after 8 years of mediocrity. Also Northwestern sneaking in at 30th was most surprising entry to me

I thought this was a good enough tweet to share and discuss.

In 81 days, one of our longest-running, most hated rivals comes to Lane for what (depending on realignment, scheduling, etc.) could be the last time in a long time. Consider this an early "Hatin' On..." thread.
Each year, we get this force-fed helping of Hurricane Helper, served up by anyone with contributor credentials to a blog. Some of the ACC media have more Ibis-wearing, rented-stadium players on the All-ACC team than any other school.

That is all.

Lots of incredible insight in this interview. If you step back and realize Smith is a Virginia kid who wanted to play for VT bad enough that he walked in, you can easily see how winning back sentiment in this state can be a recipe for success at VT. Two big takeaways:
Fuente definitely lost the culture
Pry definitely is doing everything he can to rebuild the culture. I pray the on the field results are good because if they are, this could be a fun ride.

I feel like this is something we'll need to remind ourselves as we get into the late summer and early fall as more and more of their lists start going viral again.
But in case you wanted to see a great example of why you shouldn't ever trust this twitter user as fact-based....
With this wonderful follow-up

First "Big" piece of news out of media days specific to Tech is Cole Beck is back with the football team and now on scholarship. (Someone please check on DC over this he won't take it well).

Was talking about this with a friend the other day and Chris makes the point with an image even more apparent. Why aren't we seeing a season ticket sales bump under a new coach with a decent home schedule? Lackluster ticket sales and attendance at games has pretty big ripples across the entire athletic department from budget to recruiting etc.

This is an interesting interview that straddles supporting the ACC, but Whit's commentary stands on a mountain of uncertainty.

"If the whole thing changes, then you'd certainly want to be a part of Tier One, whatever that looks like. Right now, the ACC is in Tier One."
Unfortunately, I'm not sure I believe the ACC is in the top tier.

I know the athletics department has been working on expanding their media coverage, part of which is their new podcast network. Bill Roth just launched his new podcast Level Seven (the Lane Stadium broadcast booth is on level 7, hence the name) and his first guest was Brent Pry. It's a really great interview if you haven't listened already, the man definitely has a gift when it comes to speaking.

According to an article from WDBJ7, the Town of Blacksburg has voted to make students and other parties interested in hosting a large gathering to apply for a permit.
Yup you heard that right.
"We're not trying to be killjoys and eliminate all fun," Town of Blacksburg Attorney Larry Spencer said. "It's just a way to reduce the size a little bit, it's just too big right now."
Now, there's a voluntary party registration system Spencer says will be beneficial for everyone involved.
What a brilliant idea... /s
