I'm only creating this because I feel obliged. Otherwise my interest in any college football is pretty much non-existent this week.

I want to be pissed. I want to be outraged over this result.
But I'm just apathetic. The team gave up early in the 3rd quarter and that pretty much says it all. They don't care, so why should we?
The inconsistency from the coaching staff is just routine at this point. One week the scheme looks great, the next it's a pile of shit. The more you follow you just realize they really don't know what they're doing, they just sometimes get it right and sometimes get it very wrong, and really don't know how to adjust when it's wrong. And don't even get me started on just how poorly we come out at halftime every game. -41 point differential in the 3rd this year when every other quarter is positive.

Want to hear something crazy?
I was writing my column last night, cautiously making a case for Tech to beat Clemson on Saturday. I was about four paragraphs in when a transformer on the power line outside my house in Richmond exploded, cutting the power and wifi and not letting me finish the article.
Basically what I'm saying is that god thinks Clemson covers.
BUT, if you want to know why there's a glimmer of hope, it's this:
Last week Tech really destroyed Syracuse offensively with a backup quarterback, two backup running backs and a gimpy left tackle. The most success the Orange had on defense was a string in the first half where Tech:

What games are you looking forward to this week?
Tomorrow night I want to catch App State at Coastal Carolina. Almost guaranteed to be a shootout.
Georgia at Ole Miss is interesting.
No Interest in Bama at LSU though.
Can Indiana drop Michigan to 5-5?
Want to see Army extend the unbeaten streak to 9-0.

Fire Marve. Absolutely terrible coach. Fire him today.
Bowen coached himself a hell of a game and didn't deserve this result. 21-3 lead choked away by some of the worst collective defensive play that VT has seen since Bud retired.
Flat out unacceptable. Marve has to go. He's completely in over his head. A first year coaching staff abused him today.

Inexcusably awful game and clock management week after week after week after week. We will never win close games when our coach spots the other team multiple scores a game.

*Note from the author: despite my efforts to get one of these done every week, I'm in a very busy time in my life so I may not be able to finish out the year. I get married before the Duke game and that is consuming a lot of my time and energy. Below is an abridged version write up on the Georgia Tech game and my advanced preview of Syracuse.

Last weekend we went through our annual Maroon Effect, and I know I have said it before, but I just can't let this go...

This should be our field design every week of the season. Maroon VT in the middle of the field, maroon wordmarks in the end zone. It just looks right. It just looks so much better, and stands out so much more against the white field markers than the white logo and wordmarks.
I'll go one step further and say we need to paint the end zones maroon with white text. It would look perfect:

Got Jax St at Liberty and Kennesaw St at Western Kentucky tonight
Jax and Bibberty is a pretty decent game so far.
Kennesaw St coach playing scared. Had several 4th and short over midfield down multiple scores and punted each of them.

All things considered, this is about the best possible news we could have heard today. Glad to hear both players are fine.

Fran Brown anagrams to Fan Brr Now, which fits because it's cold in Syracuse.

Last year a posted a week of my rankings that I have ran for about 20 years now (and correctly picked the BCS national champ in all but 1 year).
Well i went to run out this weekend and Peter Wolfe has not updated his site, which is where i got the data from.
So i spent a few hours making it work with espn (and cleaning up some code), but it's slow. I have to hit multiple pages and fo more complex finds using beautiful soup. The is very noticeably slower than the regex used to parse Peter Wolfe's site. Also parsing the teams/conference affiliations is a pain because they have the mascots attached.
