Tease for my Scrimmage Review- Joel Caleb working at WR

I have not seen this reported anywhere, and my review won't run until at least Monday so I thought I would get this out there for discussion. Watching the Periscope broadcast, Joel Caleb was working as a receiver in the drill where the DBs play man coverage against the WRs. Caleb was lining up against Mook Reynolds on the streaming video when the coaches called an abrupt ending to the drill. Once team play started, all the tailback work went to Travon McMillian, DJ Reid, Jerome Wright (who played in one back passing sets much like Sam Rogers did last season) Steven Peoples, and Logan Adkins.

Who will succeed Frank Beamer?

There are two big questions currently surrounding Virginia Tech football, the first being how long Frank Beamer will remain as head coach. When asked at ACC Media Days, the 67-year-old responded, "I'd say as long as I've got a good quarterback, a good kicker and my health is good, I'm enjoying what I'm doing and feel like I wanna do it a few more years."

2015 Ticket Info and Effect Games

VT published information today related to ticket purchasing (prices, availability, etc) while also announcing Orange, Maroon, and White Effect/Military Appreciation:

http://www.hokiesports.com/football/recaps/20150402aaa.html

Highlights:

The anOSU game is Orange Effect (9/7).
White Effect/Military Appreciation is the Furman game (9/12).
The Duke game is Maroon Effect and Homecoming (10/24).

I will say, Orange Effect at night certainly does look beautiful.

Way too early VT 2016 draft prospects

Sure, the 2015 draft still hasn't happened, but we all know that VT doesn't have any high profile draft prospects this year. So I decided to look up where our possible 2016 players rank in their respected positions for next year's draft.

The rankings are from www.nfldraftscout.com. Unfortunately, they rank each player within their class, so someone like Fuller may be a little lower (or not) if they leave early.

The following are most seniors (2016) and other draft eligible players that are highly ranked (top 30 of their class):

Virginia Tech Defensive Ends

So one of the big concerns this year is the lack of depth at defensive end. I noticed something when looking at past recruits, and I'm glad it would brought up again today (http://www.thekeyplay.com/comment/260475#comment-260475). This post is largely directed at French, since he has the most VT Xs and Os knowledge.

Recruiting defensive ends is broken down into strongside and weakside. To generalize, strongside are the bigger slower guys, and weakside are the quicker smaller guys.

On the Pat Haden/ CFP Committee Situation

So I wanted to gauge TKP's thoughts on this. For those of you that dont know Pat Haden the AD at USC is refusing to attend any required meeting for the Playoff Committee in Indiana, his stated reason is in solidarity and support of his gay son. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2015/03/31/pat-haden-indiana-...

Most of /r/CFB seems supportive, while a quick look at some of the USC boards reveals a good deal of hostility.

So, TKP how would you feel if Whit were to make the same choice?

Tuesday's Practice (3/31/15)

Stopped by practice on my way home and watched for probably 5 or 10 minutes. I know AB will give us a much more in-depth analysis of what went on today but just a few things I saw for those who couldn't wait.

- Motley ran with the 1's during 7v7 with A. Ford backing him up.

- Didn't see Brewer take a single snap during that period. Could have just missed it though.

- First team D in the back seven was Van Dyke, Motuapuaka, Clarke. With Riley and Frye as safeties and Mook and Chuck Clark at CB.
