College Football Playoff Rankings Week 4

This article posted at ESPN by David Hale makes a strong case for why Ohio State should be considered a team seriously contending for the playoff. I agree with him, and certainly believe that Ohio State as it is playing right now could certainly compete with any of the teams ranked ahead of it.

ACC Network for VT/WF on 11/22

Last time we have to worry about these affiliates for a while. At least we're not tossed down onto ESPN3 only.

Caption This - Duke

I think this needs to come back so I'm bringing it back. Thanks to Mike's awesome pictures there is a plethora of material but here's the one I liked the best.:

Duke quarterback Anthony Boone (7) prepares to pitch the ball as Virginia Tech defensive end Dadi Nicholas (90) reads the play.

Six Pick: Week Thirteen

The struggle is real this week in finding the top 6 games. Mediocrity and parity have stripped away the great programs. I spent 30 mins writing hot takes about each conference/division, when I realized, I don't know who the hell is good outside of three or four teams.

Rivalry week is next weekend and Championship games the week after, so that means all the best SEC teams are playing creampuffs or have a bye. If you have some honeydo things to take care of, or a needy spouse, do it this weekend.

Of note ESPN Gameday proudly not giving the Pac12 any rub, even if they are broadcasting the game, by going to "The Game."

Early Film Review of the Hokies Corner Blitz From Former ECU Coach Steve Logan

Will Stewart (@willstewartTSL ) from Techsideline posted a tweet with this link to former East Carolina head coach Steve Logan breaking down how Bud Foster blitzed Kendall Fuller and Detrick Bonner for the final two sacks of the Duke game without giving up any huge gaps in coverage down field. This is must watch for those of you who are eager to learn how teams design zone-blitz concepts by rolling coverage to the blitz, and then how offenses try to beat that coverage.

How will the OSU win be remembered?

OSU has punted 26 times in 10 games and 6 of those were in the VT game.

Ignoring what has happened since then, how will that win be talked about 5 years from now?

Dadi - ACC Defensive Player of the week.

DEFENSIVE LINEMAN Dadi Nicolas, Virginia Tech, Jr.-r, DE, 6-3, 234, Delray Beach, Fla.
Nicolas had a career-high eight tackles, including three tackles for loss and two sacks, to go along with five quarterback hurries as the Virginia Tech defense shut down Duke late in pulling off the 17-16 upset over the No. 21 Blue Devils in Saturdays ACC road game.

Offensive Optimism as Single Season Records Come Into View

Despite offensive woes this year, multiple offensive single-season records are under threat.

Much has been said about Ford and the Freshman TD record and Hodges and the TE record, but with 6 touchdowns each, they are within striking distance of the Single Season TD record, currently shared by Antonio Freeman and Andre Davis with 9.

Michael Brewer sits in 5th place right now with 218 completions, just 16 behind Logan Thomas' 2011 record of 234.

As a team, this year's 225 combined completions are 18 short of the record 243 held by the 2011 and 2013 squads.

The Motley Play Package

It appeared to me Motley's play package was limited to zone reads, mostly outside. But I haven't gone back to review the plays. What is your take?

Proper Amount of Targets for Bucky

Without apology, much of this year I have preached that we need to pass the ball to Bucky more. Well, today really proved what our offense looks like when we give the big fella the rock as often as we did. Looking at the box, "Gods Gift" was our leading receiver with 6 receptions for 57 yards and 1 TD. I know the guy is new to the position and his routes aren't always awesome, but I just feel we should throw him the ball as often as we did today moving forward. I know there have been several threads on here regarding the records he is breaking for freshman TEs and whatnot, but our offense is really tough to defend when you got a guy like him receiving the ball.
