What the FAKE?

Now that VT has pulled out the win, despite multiple attempts to let Duke sneak away with a win, can someone explain to me what the hell was Beamer doing with that fake? Middle of the field, up 1, plenty of time left and we run a fake on 4th and 19?

It was the second worst fake punt I've ever seen VT run because it was so inexplicable and had zero chance of success, even with the mythical strength of the 4th down QB.

Is there a member on this board that wants to take a stab at defending the decision?

Does the Duke win take some pressure off Frank and Whit?

Big win today, guys. Winning solves a lot problems in our minds, takes a little bit of the pressure off Beamer. Also, doesn't it also take some of the pressure off Whit? Who wants to be the man who fires a legend? Hokies lost today would have many more fans calling for Beamer's job and any more losses this season would have meant a losing record this season. No Hokie fan wants that, especially Frank and Whit. Is the pressure off?

Major Props to JCC and Brenden Motley

JCC made the most of his opportunity when Marshawn went down, racking up 95 yards on 20 carries and Motley looked good running the read option, not to mention running over the defender on his first carry.

For those interested, list of different schools that have won mythical National Championships in D-1 football in the modern era

I thought this was interesting, because there's a lot of discussion about VT's chances of winning a football championship. List was edited from Wikipedia, and includes national poll champions prior to BCS and Alliance Bowls. I assumed that the national poll champions would be the same as BCS, but didn't check to make sure.

I also arbitrarily decided the modern era was 1973, because that's when D-1 split off and the 105 scholarship limit was established.

You could argue for 1978 (scholarships reduced to 95), 1984 (the year of the College Football Association lawsuit), or 1992 (scholarships reduced to 85). I said it was arbitrary.

Alabama 1973 (Coaches), 1978 (AP), 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012

My response regarding the State of the Program Discussion

Earlier today, Alum07 brought a very fair point to the table, and I wanted to touch on it in a little more detail.

I've been thinking long and hard (giggidy) about how to reply to this, because I really do value basically everything you have to say in here.... But french... this part right here:

"I know you kids have been brainwashed into believing that anything short of a national title was a wasted season."

What does Beamer do?

He doesn't run the defense. Doesn't run our offense. Doesn't recruit. Only coaches an average special teams. What good does he even do for the VT program? Clearly every recruit knows Beamer wont be here for much longer regardless of the contract extension. It played a role with Dalton and it will continue to effect every recruit. At this point he's driving our program into the dirt

Tired of ESPN?

Guys, I am tired of ESPN. I started visiting cbssports.com. Even downloaded their app. ESPN web and mobile functionality is definitely more refined.....but screw them. They're not getting my clicks or ratings unless I am absolutely forced to. When I find myself navigating to their site I immediately re-route to cbs which....I am okay with, knowing that someone will notice my movements.

Do you have any other recommendations for decent sports coverage? I recommend you find an acceptable alternative and force yourself to break the ESPN habit. Only when we hit them in the pocketbook will things start to change around that organization.

Cheers.

Lovin' On - David Cutcliffe

I think we're on to something. The team certainly played better against BC.

This week I introduce you to the Head Coach of the Duke University Blue Devils: David Cutcliffe.

Lovin' on this week should be easy as he is clearly one of the most likable coaches in football (second to our own CFB).

The NCAA is currently investigating whether or Todd Gurley was paid to sign this.

Insert joke about UNC "academics".
