Byers is also in the mix if Ryan Odom gets hired away from VCU to go there. This wouldn't be the blow that losing Kevin Giltner would but would just add to Mike Young's very long list of changes needed in the program.

As the 2024-25 season draws to a close, seeing the women's team firmly on the bubble, it's important to take stock of what we currently have on the roster and what we see coming in.
It's true, we are losing Rose Micheaux and Tilly Ekh, who, over the last two seasons for the Hokies, accounted for a combined 109 starts, 20.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
But what do we return?
The lone rising Senior on the roster is Lani White, a former ProspectsNation Top 150 recruit in the 2022 class. White has been a consistent double-digit scorer who has also proven to be reliable from the FT line at 83%

Kate Sears averaged 27.2 points, 13.1 rebounds and 9.2 assists. She shot 39.4% from the 3-point line and 81% at the free-throw line. She had 13 triple-doubles.
For her career, Sears finished with 2,614 points, 980 rebounds and 714 assists in 116 games. Her career points rank 11th in N.C. history.
Really looking forward to her in Hokies uniform.

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has accepted a role with his alma mater Davidson College as an assistant general manager for the basketball programs, university officials told ESPN.
Curry becomes the first active player in U.S. major professional sports to take an administrative job with an NCAA team.
In his new role, Curry, who played three seasons at Davidson (2006-09), will provide guidance to the men's and women's teams based on his college and professional experience.

Hokies go to South Carina to take on the most punchable coavhing face in the ACC, Brad Brownell.
Brownell has the Tigers tracking for a 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Clemson is led by someone that has been there as long as R.J. Davis has been at UNC. 6th year Senior Chase Hunter is putting up 16.4 ppg as one of four seniors putting up double-digit averages. Chauncey Wiggins, 6'10 Forward is the only Junior in the starting lineup. The Tigers typically only go 8 deep.
Clemson simply shoots better than it's opponents. They average over 52% inside the perimeter and 39% outside. They are also shooting 77% from the line. Their average margin of victory is almost 11 points per game.

The Ladies travel to Greensboro today to take on the GA Tech Yellowjackets in the 8 vs 9 matchup in the ACC tournament. Ga Tech is a 3.5 point favorite. The Hokies took down a high-flying Yellowjacket team on Jan 9 to end the then #13 Jackets 16(i think) game winning streak. They are currently on a 4 game losing streak.

In the first game Dunn and Morgan scored 33 and 28 points. The Hokie starters all scored 17 or more points led by Wenzel with 24. GA Tech typically plays 9 or 10 players and does not seem to have a consistent starting line up.

TarHoles are led by RJ Davis and come to Cassell squarely on the wrong side of the bubble right now. They are 18-1 vs Quad 2-4 but a terrible 1-10 vs Quad 1 teams. They come to face the Hokies absolutely needing to win and probably needing 3 wins in the ACCT as they play #2 Duke to close out the season. They have 5 ACC games that ended with a two point of less difference of which they went 4-1.
Not sure I see a path to victory but this Hokies team doesn't quit either so would be extra sweet to basically lock UNC into a NIT berth.
Sorry don't have the brain power to really dive any deeper. Running a conference of 700+ people should not be on anyone's bucket list.

Prior to the games today, the espn bracketology we are the first team out and the last 4 in are
1. Minnesota - #13 in the Big 10 with 0 top 25 wins and 2-7 in their last 9, 4-9 in their last 13. Somehow they are #35 in the NET going 0-6 Q1, 2-4 Q2, 2-0 Q3, and 16-0 Quad 4. They played a laughable OOC and have beaten nobody, yet the "advanced metrics" have them in the tournament. They have been carried by the "well the big 10 is good and losing to big 10 teams means you are good" logic. It's insane that you can be 2-10 in Q1/Q2 and still be #35 in the NET.

With the win over Clemson and Stanford's win over Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech has clinched the 8 seed in the ACC Tournament.
They will face #9 Georgia Tech, who the Hokies defeated 105-94 in double OT in Atlanta, behind 24 points from Wenzel, 20 from White and Micheaux, and 17 from Baker and Ekh.
Should the Hokies win, they will take on #1 NC State, who clinched with their win over SMU today.
Most of the ACC tournament field has been set.
Day 1 will see #10 UVA face #15 Pitt or Miami, #11 Stanford take on #14 Clemson, and #12 BC take on #13 Syracuse

Since I don't want to get caught missing the tip-off tomorrow, I'm going to put this up tonight. Going to miss the game live because the daughter and grand kids are down from PA this week end and we're going to the beach after church tomorrow. You guys will have to bring home a winner without me; but I may be able to listen.
Our 17-11, 8-9 Hokies travel to Clemson tomorrow to take on the 13-15, 6-11 Clemson Tigers. ESPN gives us 66.1% chance of winning. Clemson's ACC victories are against SMU, Ga Tech, Miami, Stanford, Cal, and Wake Forest. We beat all of those teams except Stanford, which we should have beaten.

The 17-10, 8-8 Ladies travel to 14-15, 5-11 Boston College today at 7 PM. The game is an ACC Network extra broadcast. ESPN gives the Hokies 59.8% chance to win. BC has lost 4 of their last 5 and 7 of their last 9; in their last game they beat SMU at home 87-78. We beat SMU on Feb 2 at home 79-71. In other recent game we beat Cal 87-84 at home and lost to Stanford 75-74 in OT at home. BC lost to both on the road.

The Hokies will match up well with the starting five of BC, all of whom are juniors (2), seniors (2) or grad students. No one is over 6'1". However #23 Jackson, 6'4" and #13 Greene, 6'3" come off the bench for about 13-15 minutes each.
