College football was a different animal in the Chan Gailey years. A team like Georgia Tech had a shot at winning a BCS championship. Especially as FSU declined at the end of Bobby Bowden's career.

Today? The success CPJ has brought GT is probably their ceiling, and the AD is smart to realize that.

College football doesn't have a playoff. It has a four team invitational tournament. They can call it whatever they want to, but in every organized sport in the world, a playoff has automatic bids to the division or conference champions within that particular body.

The best barbecue I've ever eaten came out of my own smoker. The best I've ever had from a restaurant was probably Smoque in Chicago.

Joe's Diner will always have a soft spot in my heart, right next to the hard spot on my liver.

Savoy needs to hit the jugs machine hard and get over his dropsies. If he does that, he's got WR1 on lockdown.

Kumah and Grimsley showed me something down the stretch.

Patterson has great size and had a so-so CWB. Needs to work on route running.

Carroll's role with the offense is what it is. 1-2 critical catches per game, otherwise he's the invisible man.

We missed Farley this season. Murphy is a poor substitute for a burner.

Beyond that, it's a crapshoot. I see a couple of true freshmen seeing the field next season over some upperclassmen. Expect to see some attrition at receiver before next season starts.

Yeah, definitely not discounting the quality of opponent. Just making an observation that they will not be playing in a hostile road environment for that game.

Northwestern will practically be a home game for them. Chicago is full of ND fans, and nobody in the city gives a shit about Northwestern football.

They aren't in the conference, but they participate in revenue sharing. The ACC made money off ND's bowl game. Promoting that game makes business sense.

I hear this a lot, but I never really hear an argument for it other than talking about the old Big East deal or general "fuck ND" sentiment. When actually discussing the structure of the ACC's bowl agreement with ND, I find it hard to find anything to be all that upset about.

Motu might be my favorite Hokie ever. Forced into service before he was ready, the target of massive criticism from the fanbase, but he just kept plugging away and then in his senior season found himself at the heart of one of the best defenses I can remember Bud fielding. Dude's got a lunchpail mentality. He'll be missed.

Yup, that should do it.

It would have been a minor violation anyway. Self report it and we would've been fine. But all things being equal, I'd prefer not having to deal with at at all. And it looks like we don't.

Two to three years from now, nobody outside of VT and Okie State fans are going to remember who won the 2017 Camping World Bowl.

It's not where we are, it's where we're going.

To actually answer the question, if Bud were to leave, I think it's most likely Wiles would go with him. That would leave Galen Scott and Brian Mitchell on the defensive staff. Given that Scott was Fuente's DC at Memphis, I think he's a foregone conclusion.

The interesting twist would be if Wiles didn't follow Foster. Then you'd have a guy thoroughly versed in Foster's scheme vs the head coach's former DC to choose from.

Having said that, I'll believe it when I see it.
