Goddammit, the entire universe is lining up for a loss to GT this week.
So do you think Searles' Hanz-and-Franzification of the OL put Vice at a disadvantage? It seems like we might have had an easier transition if we had gone from Grimes to Vice. Grimes wanted that leaner, athletic line too.
Perhaps we will need Mook to really shine in a Kyle Fuller type role.
I would be fine with that, if Mook can put aside his need to bring the thunder in every hit for this game and just wrap up and take down the ball carrier.
So breaking this down, our offensive shortcomings are:
- A lack of vertical threat.
- A QB who isn't as much if a threat in the run game.
- A lack of receivers who can get separation if misdirection doesn't work.
Regarding number two, JJ shows too much upside to bench in favor of a more mobile option.
Basically that means all three shortcomings are an issue of player development and the need to improve recruiting.
This is made even more clear when we realize the most WTF play calling moments were good calls for the situation that we fucked up.
TL;DR. JOIN THE DAMN HOKIE CLUB,
PEOPLE.
I had very little to complain about in the play calling. You can't not call the play you think will work because of the chance of a bad snap or pitch. We just played like a team full of freshmen at the worst possible moments.
We're rooting for player development and recruiting success.

That's why I love this place. I won't say losses are taken in stride, but it's a hell of a lot better than most websites.
That might be the Ardbeg talking tho...
We weren't gonna win this with field goals.
We are. Dude's getting roasted alive. Community justice and all that. I just want him to stop before he gets community banned.
And when did they stop TWIS? I've read it this season.
EDIT: Yeah, no, it's still a thing.
Considering their combined weight is like 640 pounds, I'm gonna go with tired. We need backup DTs of approximately the same talent to be an elite 4 quarter defense.
You need to stop.
Dude... Have you seen the number of WRs they've brought in? They're selling the farm to land their top RB Target.
IT'S YEAR TWO.
Breathe.
I'd about guarantee you this will make This Week In Schadenfreude.
I've heard play calling over and over again, but from what I saw, we were either fucking up the snap or fumbling. (Though not Travon.) My personal hot take is the play calling gave us a shot in this game, and a young team fucked it up. You'll have that.
Anyone...and I mean anyone...calling for Fuente's head should have the banhammer shoved so far up their ass they can tell us what it tastes like.
I remember 2012. This honestly isn't that bad. Of course, I wouldn't venture into other VT forums at the moment...
Mad props for going down swinging. One too many fuckups tonight. You'll have that, with a team this young.
Biggest difference I see is, this is the way our best teams would play a few years ago. This might be remembered as one of Fuente's worst.
This game was there for the taking. We just couldn't take it.
Hats off to the defense, they put us in position to win.
Hope this stings like hell for the offense. These are the losses that teams learn from.
And a team full of frosh at skill positions. For real.
Don't be that guy.
We aren't there yet. But I'm proud as fuck of how we're playing this last drive.
Learn. Get better.
Oh shit. Both of the Mothership's talking heads picked us...
This has to be shared, but probably doesn't deserve its own thread. USA Today's preview of the game is absolutely savage.
The host Hurricanes (7-0,
5-0 ACC) can clinch their first trip to the ACC title game with a victory over the Hokies (7-1, 3-1) coupled with a Virginia loss to Georgia Tech. QB Malik Rosier threw three touchdown passes last week for Miami, which holds the nation's longest winning streak (12 games) and hasn't lost in more than a year.Who wins? Virginia Tech,
23-16

AAU bound.
