Tyrod is so good he can beat his opponent and his own front office at the same time.
So do you think we should be lower than 16th after the Clemson loss, or that's still about where we belong?
Let's not fall into our old habits of bringing up the defense in defense of the offense.
Both of which we won. In shutout victories. By at least four possessions.
Okay, fixed it.
Can I just say, now that I've had my coffee and am more coherent, I'm very impressed with the lack of panic or despair in this thread. I avoided TKP last bight after the game for fear it would be a salt mine. This thread is full of level headed assessment. Well done. This is TKPing done right.
Moving forward, I fully believe the Coastal division is within our reach. We have faced the best defense we (and probably any other team) will face this season. Learn. Adjust. Move on.
Bring on BC.

As for the QB draw, I really thought we were setting up the pop pass. Surprised we didn't see it in the second half.
Feel bad for JJ. Made good decisions all night against the best defense he'll ever see, and still wound up with two INTs that weren't his fault at all and only one that was his fault. Despite that, the guy never once seemed rattled. His poise is ridiculous.
Aww shit. Is it obvious I just woke up?
Yeah I was somehow getting Travon's fumble confused for the first INT. Don't ask me.
Yeah that second pick was athletic as hell.
The pick six? It literally bounced off Murphy's helmet and into the hands of the Clemson defender. Murphy just couldn't bring it in.

Hate to be that guy, but that is actually Chicago maroon, our official school color. We have used a darker shade for athletics for as long as I can remember.

Somebody did the math, and although the guys who originally conceived the college football belt started it with '72 Nebraska, a belt starting with Princeton/Rutgers in 1869 would have found its way to the. '72 Huskers. So you can trace the belt all the way back to the first game ever played if you want.
If it's that lisfranc BS again, imma lose my shit. Anybody else remember that season not long ago we lost like four guys to lisfranc sprains?
When in the world did I say dropping 50 on a bad defense is the same as dropping 50 on a good one?
I said dropping 50 three games in a row indicates a team has a good offense, regardless of the competition. Dropping 50 is HARD. Assuming no defensive scores, dropping 50 requires you to score on 8 drives. More, if you're forced to settle for a field goal more than once. It requires a high level of consistent execution by any offense to manage it in any game. To do it three games in a row? Well, WVU is the only team in the nation to have managed it so far this season.
We tended to blow it when we were hyped under Beamer. We have no idea how a Fuente-led Hokies squad will respond to national hype.
They've dropped 50+ on every other team they've played besides us. I don't care if it's against St. Mary's School for the Blind, you drop three 50-bombs in a row, your offense is pretty good.
Venables used press coverage against us all night long both times we played them in 2011. I don't remember a lot of it last year though.
Aaaaaand I've got my new sig.
We held WVU, the #3 scoring offense in the nation, to half their average score.
We are definitely underestimating this defense.
But what happens when you're given nothing? What happens when the poking and prodding puts you consistently too far behind the sticks?
We lose.
This isn't a shortcoming or soft underbelly specific to this team and this staff. Unless you simply outman your opponent, every football team in the world is going to have to find something to exploit in the opponent's defense. And I feel like we might have the best offensive staff in the nation at finding that something to exploit.
I call that "Hilgarting."
Better lucky than good.
This is what I get for not refreshing the page before posting.
Penalties: Virginia Tech has committed 16 penalties through 4 games for a total of 138 yards, good for 34.5 yards per game.
That's good for 13th in the nation in penalties. (Higher ranking means fewer penalties.) The level of focus and discipline we're playing with beats anything I've seen from a VT squad this early on.

Let's wait and see how WVU does in conference play before we dismiss that win as "nice."
