I have no real information here (though I will inquire through my channels) but I was in a meeting on campus this week with Whit. President Sands gave an overview of some items related to Athletics and called on Whit for additional thoughts, Whit said there were none because Sands had covered them, then offered an apology for the result of the football game. He looked absolutely forlorn, so either something is going on behind the scenes and he knows he's a dead man walking, or he's just pissed about the whole situation (maybe both). No #sauces on any of that, but #vibes.
College athletics is a business, and if we need to move on from Whit & Co., I understand it, but I do feel bad for the guy. He's done his level best and he loves it here. Maybe that just wasn't enough and he wasn't the right guy at the right time. Tough world out there for college athletics.

Yeah... this kind of stuff has broken reporting basically everywhere and not just on Hokie sports. I expect some FOIA work could turn up interesting things, or at least the lack of interesting things. The fact that the athletic department was running without a CFO for multiple years was eye opening to me. This is a nine-figure operation, how TF do you not have a financial officer?
Yeah, I get it, and I've heard that thought before, but it's like, they run a news outlet over there. If you're getting good intel, source it and report it. Honestly, I'd be pissed if I was a subscriber.
Access Journalism, in a nutshell. You know better than most how resistant and insular this athletic department has been to "new" (now two plus decades old) media. It was an uphill battle for TSL to even get credentials under the Weaver regime so I'm sure whether it is stated or not that you don't want to step on too many toes.
No sauces, but I imagine that in the past he was more interested in not burning certain bridges than he is now. Which is telling in and of itself.
Ricky Rahne will lose today and prolong the firing of Whit, Pry and everyone else. Fuck that guy.
It's interesting to me that all of this is coming out now. Why not report some of things that have been heard throughout the years?

Something is going to have to change and it needs to be done soon if VT wants to remain at all relevant in the next 10 years ago. Unfortunately the last decade doesn't leave me any hope that anybody in this administration is going to di anything proactively or with conviction.
Chris is a nice guy but I put a lot more on Mehul. I'll buy that there is movement afoot but getting specific on the particulars is a bridge too far for me; at least today.

UCLA and Nico... woof. I've pointed out the investment Duke made in the offseason as the worst overall NIL play, but Nico's decision (or was it his dad's) to spur UT, and take less money overall after trying to hold the Vols hostage - the dude went from a likely NFL draft pick this upcoming offseason to someone who may not even have any 1yr NIL deals.
Arizona KSU has been a good one so far although terrible offense on both sides. Arizona should probably be up 2 or 3 TDs but can't finish.
Yeah, I think the lack of minutes is a big thing for Poch. McKennie should be a roster lock and likely a starting XI lock depending on formation.
Reyna needs to get back on track so I understand not being on the radar. But while I'm a bit lower on his potential than a few years ago, nobody has come close to showing his skillset for the USMNT. Maybe Tillman gets there but he ghosted for Leverkusen today.
I'll wrap up my thoughts on Reyna with this...

I appreciate this community so much, TKP has provided a level of stability and useful distraction for me for many years through many tough times in my life. I am still glad I've invested so much of my time with you all even if I haven't always posted a ton myself.

What a stat line for Indiana starting QB
19 for 20 for 270 yards and 5 TDs plus 19 yards rushing and another TD .... in less than 3 quarters.
...and now Colorado gets a touchdown on ensuing drive so potential 14 point swing thanks to really questionable officiating.
Could have been 20-7 Houston but now looks like it will be 16-14 going to the half.
Colorado just got bailed out on a defensive facemask of the QB because officials decided to call the QB for grounding too. QB being facemasked called for grounding just seems another level of bullshit.
The penalty would have given Houston a first down in the red zone and allowed them to at least run the clock out on the first half. Instead Colorado got the ball now with a minute forty to work after long Houston FG.
Sadly, I'm not sure Reyna or McKinnie are on Poch's radar. And that's a shame.
...as soon as I said it they get a penalty to extend a drive and then go 80 yards downfield.

It is a tough business for sure. But it's also the rare business where you have some guaranteed parachutes if things don't work out. Both Pry and Babcock will have multi-million dollar severance packages to cushion their landing. I'm guessing that Whit can retire whenever he would like at this point and Pry is still a young guy and he could be a greeter at Home Depot for the health insurance for the rest of this life and he's millions of dollars ahead of most of us working stiffs already.
