No one is questioning if it is in his best interests. However, pretty much everything everybody does is for their best interests lmao. That isn't a justification to nullify any negative effects or perceptions it might create.

I my mind, your point reinforces my comments. The kid should be given more leeway than Saban.

Since he's whining to the media, I'd like to hear Saban explain how staying was in the kid's best interest. We all know what Saban gets out of the kid staying.

Listen, this kid leaving now (as opposed to the end of the season) means he can play for another FBS program next year. Barnett went to Alabama to better his chances to play in the NFL. If they're going to start a younger player, he needs to move on and put himself in a better position. He has no loyalty to Alabama. It's not like Saban was the only coach to give him a scholarship.

Do what's best for you kid. You only have so many years to play football, make the most of it. Unless you're interested in becoming a real life Alex Moran (admittingly not a bad life), he made the right decision to transfer now and anyone else who disagrees with me doesn't really care about the athletes as people.

They were referring to Saban quitting mid-contract, not midseason. Saban went out of his way to deny his future job until the Dolphins' season was over. Maybe he had decided midseason to leave, but he at least waited until the end of the season to officially quit (which appears to be a theme among all of his jobs).

Still, I can see a difference between the scenarios here. Just painting broad strokes -- we have Saban, who had already been a coach for a long time at a variety of levels, so he was equipped to make a well informed decision. On the other hand, we have a kid in his second year of college who got benched and wants to go somewhere else. Not saying either side is more right or better than the other...but I can see a difference.

Wasn't he like the number 1 QB recruit or something? I think he was. And he played well against USC to get pulled for some reason. I can understand his frustration especially when he could be starting at a lot of other schools as you mentioned.

Without having 4 and 5 star kids sitting behind starters Alabama becomes just like everyone else.

part of me says stick out the year but part of me also says no one is going to care care of that kid but himself and he has to do what is best for him. Alabama will be fine without him.

If I recall correctly, Christian Ponder had his degree in 2 1/2 years. Not sure if this kid had AP credits or college credits from when he was in HS, but there are a few cases where it happens quickly. But if that were the case, I would expect him to stay and earn some credits.

This is not only an excellent point, but it also makes me suspicious that there's more to the story than the kid wanted to switch to a school where he'll have a better chance to start.
