First of all to understand HorseOnATreadmill, you gotta understand who HorseOnATreadmill was.

Now, Horse was born to a three-legged mare of a mother. He was always ashamed of this, man.

And then right after that he's adopted by this man, Tito Liebowitz he's a small time gun runner and a horse racing promoter. So he puts Horse into training. They see Horse is good. He is damn good!

But then he had the race of his life. They pit him against his brother Nibbles. And Horse said, "No man that's my brother, I can't race Nibbles!" but they made him race anyway, and Horse, he beat Nibbles.

Horse said, "That's it!" he called off all his races, and he started doing whiskey, and he freaked out. Then in a rage, he collapsed, and his hooves no longer raced.

Boise and JMU remember how good the 2010 Hokies were.

At this stage, I compare us to the 2004 team in terms of not knowing what to expect. That was our first year in ACC were picked to finish near the bottom etc. Fan base did not know what to expect. I remember watching the Duke game that year and Duke scored first and I thought oh sh@t. Then we rolled them. Lost to NC St. at home etc. Won the Conference!

No, that's just it. There has been, for a time, such a backlog of people with Ph.D.s that they are willing to be paid significantly below what they're worth just to get a paycheck again. This is emphasized by the fact that even federal pay scales for postdocs are so low. When I finished my B.S. in 2007, a lot of entry-level jobs (lab technicians, research assistants, etc) that were hiring people like me were offering in the ballpark of $40k (and to be fair, there were some companies that were paying somewhat better). I was already intent on going to grad school at that point so I wasn't pursuing any of them. Fast-forward to five years later, after the economy tanked, everyone hid in grad school for a while, the faculty who were supposed to retire didn't because their retirement plans lost tons of money, and there's a huge backlog of people with terminal degrees and no prospects.

My first salary as a holder of a Ph.D. was $42k, the federal guideline for first-year postdocs. And now, four years later, I make slightly more. Makes you question whether it was actually worth all the pain to actually get all that education. Now, that's for public-sector academia. I could probably make double that in industry but I chose a different path and I have my reasons. But for a postdoc who has been stuck in the same place for up to a decade (happens all too often), and is forced out (which also happens), taking B.S.-level money is not unheard of just to put food on the table. And the hiring company can do that because they hold all the leverage.

As of right now I think we can get past UNC and if we do that the Miami and ND games as you mentioned will tell us more.

However Miami hasn't played anyone and plays a weak GT team this weekend so I don't think we know much about them either. Pitt is feeling more like a trap game that I hope we don't overlook if we get there undefeated.

The problem with the Heisman is that it's normally given to the best player on the best team.

I agree with most others, win out and maybe he'll get a nod but I doubt it unless one of the guys on the current list has a horrible game and falls off.

It's pretty similar to the pre-season rankings that everyone says "don't matter". But they do because teams outside that have to fight to get ranked and ranked teams just have to maintain to not fall out. Plus they say they don't matter yet they bill those games as big match ups due to the rankings. Though this is probably worthy of its own thread there are teams that wonder how they are even ranked and how VT is still on the outside looking in.

Edit: great job on the video. Liked showing the other teams while the Fuente speech is in the background talking bout other programs.

This. Way too early to tell. We are 3-1 and lost to a very overrated UTjr team. Having said that this is the best this offense has looked in I can't remember how long.

All of the players on those teams are undefeated and most are in the playoff conversation. Like you said win and he may get consideration if he keeps it up.

I'm guessing that his point is that Bud is famous for in game adjustments, so if the ECU OC should be prepping in a way that is along the lines of:

if Bud adjusts to do X, what simple adjustment can I make to counter it. Do I have a play to do that? No? "Ok guys, here's a new play for the VT game"

Clearly you can't game plan every eventuality, but this is kind of a self awareness thing.
