You don't think we can have both, with our backups adding to an 84-0 beatdown of the Hoos? Oh, ye of little faith.

The thing I liked about the run was how it mixed power, speed, shiftiness.
To see that many changes in direction was cool, then also adding in the
power element to get through tackles, etc.

I'm only 26, so I never saw Arnie play. But I was raised a huge golf fan though, so I still teared up when I read he had passed last night. Not sure any athlete had a more positive or deep impact on his sport than Arnie did on golf.

Bradshaw took a big shot to head/neck.
I believe it was Trevon Hill also was down. Hoping for minor issues as Tech has been fortunate thus far.

I agree. Fortunately, I think you exoercise some of those demons when you get new management and show a change in direction, which VT did.

I hope Fuente stays classy and lets his backups play in the 4th every week and stops trying to score after the first couple of drives in the 4th Q.

the one exception, of course, is when we play our in-state rival. I hope he mashes that gas pedal and stomps them into the ground to the tune of 84-0...or something

for anyone who thinks that we are in danger of losing anyone on our coaching staff to LSU....

But when you don't adapt at all to try and meet those expectations, the result is rather predictable.

Was hoping to see the offense keep going and scoring.
OTOH, don't wanna be one of those schools that runs the score up.

By the end of October, we will know where we belong. Until then, rankings are numbers thrown out by guys who think they are smarter than the rest of us. Remember, these are the same guys who said ND and USC were top 10 teams before the season started.

Might as well say "Life sucks". The only way we don't have to say goodbye or mourn our heros is to predecease them. Arnie had a great life, a long life and a meaningful one. I cannot think of him without thinking of my own father who loved to watch Arnold and Jack, and while I never learned to love golf like my dad, I did get a strong dose of appreciation for his favorite players, and even got interested in watching for a while when Tiger was tearing it up. Arnold was a class act all the way.

No problem, I wasn't completely sure about it anyway. I think my buddy was just trying to make me feel good haha. We will have to try that out.

I believe French pointed this out in his offseason Memphis/Fuente film breakdowns, but Fuente runs a slightly different scheme to typical run games. He uses screens and swing passes in place of some outside runs to spread the defense out a bit more, so while we show having more passing yards, I would be curious to see the % of passing yards where the receiver caught the ball behind the line of scrimmage.

Expected us to be 3-1. Didn't expect this kind of offensive output. Defense to me is still not nearly as good as the rankings indicate. UNC is going to put up a ton of yards as will PITT, so think that will normalize a bit over the next few weeks. Both of those are very winnable games although PITT at PITT always scares me based off of our past, but obviously Fuente wasn't involved and he put a quick halt to our ECU-woes.

I guess the coaches are still hammering ball security. I like the attention to details though.

This team hasn't really had to play from behind since Bristol (and we all know how that turned out)....I worry how this team will respond when they don't score first.

This is my one concern as well. If something happens and we manage to fall behind someone like UNC or Miami by 2 scores, how will the team react? Hopefully the cascade of failures against Tennessee was a combination of bad luck, early season jitters, and adjusting to a new coach's system. Two of those are in the team's control and, by all appearances, they've adjusted quite well. But when you outscore two opponents 103-17, you haven't exactly been fairly challenged. How will they react when someone is able to keep the score tied or actually take the lead?

Pre-season I predicted anywhere between 6-8 wins, but probably closer to 6. Now I'm thinking anywhere from 7-9. We'll probably drop one that we should win going forward. Looking at our schedule I'm hopeful that we can take 2 of UNC/Miami/Pitt but we need to get at least one. I'd love to see us take all 3 of Syracuse/Duke/GT but I just have a feeling we'll manage to drop one of them. Change in my preseason prediction: I think we beat ND. They just look an absolute mess right now. Then we put a cap on UVA's 1-11 season.
