I think the bar is now set between 8 and 9 wins on the year, with the next couple games determining how realistic a 10 win season could be.
That said, I originally thought that we would struggle on offense until we found our groove, and then we would begin to see signs of an offense that worked toward the latter half of the year. Boy was I wrong. We have an offense that can and will hang 50 on a lesser team with ease, as we have already shown. I'm still disappointed at how that Tennessee game played out, because there's a very real possibility we come away with the win without all those fumbles, but even in that losing effort, we moved the ball at will and were in scoring position all night long. I'm really looking forward to seeing how we compare to our ACC brethren, because if we can keep up this level of play, I don't see another game on the schedule we don't have a very real possibility of winning.

Mostly because those teams that don't take care of business on the field. I'm vastly more interested in seeing the team continue to improve, than worry about rankings, at this point in time. Kick the crap out of UNC and rankings will take care of themselves.
At the same time, if that happens and the team gets caught up in being ranked, then they'll likely lose said ranking very quickly. BudFu has them focused on the right goal which is the goal that Joe states, in his tweet.

I think that is still my expectation but I very well think we could be 9-3 in the end. We are playing well but we haven't played anyone real tough yet outside of UT and it is hard to gauge that game because we screwed ourselves so badly in it.
Don't forget Kalil Ladler will probably see some play time next year too!

They returned almost their entire team that went 11-3 last year, including a blow out in their bowl game (it was only Cincy, but still a blow out). They also have a Heisman "candidate" at RB who's broken Marshall Faulk's records. They are a legit G5 top 25 team, until they prove otherwise.

It wasn't just special teams, but using special teams as a way to consistently win games.
Buddy of mine texted me this weekend to suggest that I advocate Briles become the next coach at PSU if Franklin is fired.
Not only does it put all the bad eggs in the same carton, but my proclivity for watching chaos insists that I must hope for a Briles/PSU marriage.

Duzzi has time to schemo to help those corners. Reminds me of where VT been the last few seasons. Trying to play o man coverage with average at best corners. Surprise is they averaging like 35 points a game post Boyd.

So far, we're tracking about where I thought we'd be, though with more impressive quality of wins, and with a loss that very possibly could have been a win.
The real test of this team will be consistency. Notable challenges will be limiting penalties and turnovers, and establishing a running game.
It's one and the same to me, LSU thinks because he is a G5 coach he will be an easy get, their fans and boosters will expect him to come over for about 3.4-4 million. I think Herman is worth more than that and that Houston will offer him more money if needed to keep him.

like what's this all about, it just doesn't fit the mood, the game, etc.

Sounds like you're muddling two different arguments here. Are you saying LSU won't offer a G5 coach more than what Miles was making, or that Herman won't accept what LSU offers? On the first point, I think you're probably wrong. On the second, you might very well be right. People forget that Tilman Fertitta, Houston's chairman of the board of regents, has a net worth of $2.7 billion. And he's just one of the billionaires with ties to the program. This is Houston, after all. That school is drenched in money from the oil tycoons. LSU is going after the coach of the one G5 school they can't outbid. If UH is all in on Herman, and I think they are, they'll match any offer LSU makes. If Herman leaves, it won't be for a larger paycheck.
Play like we did the last 2 weeks on October 8th and they won't have a choice but to rank us on the 9th.
