This is the part of the rule that applies. The thing is, I don't think the ball had truly left the "zone."
He blocked below the waist toward his own end zone after the ball had left the zone, hence the penalty. The question becomes, "had the ball really left the zone?"

# | Ask TKP: What's your one positive and negative takeaway from Battle at Bristol? Gotta agree. This is not a loss to a top 10 team, this an ugly loss to an SEC also-ran. We out gained them. We moved the ball at will against their defense. I mean, they forced 4 punts the entire game!
I believe our play will give teams like Florida and UGa the perfect blue print for embarrassing UT later in the season. Any team that can hold on to the ball and do what we did on offense will give them a run for their money. Any team that can do that and hold fairly well on defense will expose Tenn as the over-hyped mid-tier team that they are.
I'm pissed about this loss because we threw it away. LOLUVa could have won this game with how we gift-wrapped it for them. There's a lot of promise, but we will not look back on this game as a loss to a future national champion or even playoff contender. If they make the SEC CG, it will be because the SEC east is once again a steaming pile, not because Tennessee is "back."

Looks to me like he went straight for the legs. Is that illegal? I thought a chop block was going for the legs when someone is engaged, this guy isn't engaged. Can you hit below the knees this close to LOS? I don't know that rule.
Not sure I agree it was a bad call or not. Looks like he was going low all the way. Follow his head. The worst part is there was no need for that kind of block. He was back side not play side and All he has to do is prevent back side pursuit By staying high to slow the guy down. Maybe French can shed some light on this play.

French has commented that after review both of the calls are questionable at best. You're acting like he intentionally took cheap shots at guys knees like some kind of thug who doesn't care about hurting the team. Also, at the moment, the interior of our line consistently collapses inward on Evans whenever Teller isn't in. So there is really no argument that excluding Teller is helping us in any way.

That was my point, you just said it more clearly than I did. If this is what's happening, then we're going to have to wait for Fuente to get "his" guys into the system. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it just means that the recovery is going to take longer than some of us had hoped.
But hopefully I'm wrong and just overanalyzing a small sample of anecdotes. Let's see how they respond against BC.

I had the same issue with my two kids. The ticket office told me to sell my season tickets on stub hub and try to get seats together but process one at a time. If I did that I sacrifice about 60 rows of distance and puts me in a much further section.
I have found a solution, but it was maneuvering with friends and family. It's unfortunate there was no effort to accommodate a parent sitting with a child.
Teller got benched for two boneheaded penalties that killed two different drives. I don't see the problem in that.

I was referencing Hokie fans in the more northeast part of the state where there isn't any massive crossover of UT fans like the part of the state I live in, but OK. I'll just chalk it up to a mistake and poor wording on that last sentence. From the tip end of the state, everything above Lynchburg feels like "northern VA" to us down here.
Well, if anyone can light a fire under this team...

I was thinking the same during the game! At the time it was the feeling of, "you know, he can run well enough to keep a drive alive, but we've had faster/nimbler QB's." Not a knock so much as respect.
