Watch, in year 2 or 3 we will look back to this game as Fuente being a genius for playing inexperienced players to mold to his offensive philosophy on that elusive 15-0 run. Book it.
There could be a correlation between spread offenses and fumbles. And there is definitely a correlation between the number of plays run and fumbles. That said, some of the fumbles we saw last night were just due to some really dumb stuff.

They bought 500,000 beers and 2 cases of water. Typical Tennessee. Everybody in our section was complaining about the water issue. That 50/50 drawing! Shadiest shit I've ever seen! You would lose your license in Vegas with antics like that.
I remember that one. That was my senior year. As soon as I saw the team trot out in all orange, I had a feeling that they'd lose. But the one that really made me feel terrible was the UMD game. It was senior day and seeing CJ Brown get that TD in OT was sickening.
The fact that UVA only lost to Oregon by 18 points leads me to believe that they spent all offseason prepping for this game, as if it was going to be Mendenhall's coming-out party. Not only did they lose to Richmond by 3 possessions, but this game was never really close, and now we get to watch perhaps the worst season in UVA history.
I don't think we can "hang with Tennessee" when we fix the errors we had last night. I think without the 5 fumbles and boneheaded penalties we would have crushed UT. Several of those turnovers were absolute drive-killers where the offense was rolling down the field, and the others were just gift-wrapped points on a ridiculously short field. Nothing UT did last night screamed to me "best team in the SEC". Not even close. They won because they took advantage of our repeated mistakes, and props to them for that, but you cannot convince me they would have won on the merit of their own team without all those gifts.
According to Fuente, Chung had a better week in practice than Gallo.

you give ANY team those yards, they will come away with points. Along with those, we had 101 yards in penalties.
The bright side I see is that if we fix ball security and penalties, we can get rolling on offense cause the scheme seems to be working. Talent was not a reason we lost this game. They gotta tighten up for ACC play.
Game 2 of a new coaching staff and new methods. We aren't false starting like crazy, we are gaining yards. I feel we are improving and this will take some time.
Wasnt drunk at all and I'm 99% certain we win that game handily if we don't put the ball on the turf. Three touchdowns a direct result of turnovers, two more promising drives cut off by turnovers. A 5 touchdown swing makes it an easy 48-30 win for VT. The only thing that consitently stopped us last night was ourselves.
Bucky was locked down. He had a few sweep runs to get him the Ball.
Sorry to hear that. I had a run in myself after the game. Horrible fans. Not kids either. They seem to have a knack for picking on and disrespecting women.
I think some of it was to use some time to give the defense a rest. We needed longer drives and they were getting pressure most of the game.
I feel your fatigue, just trying to gin up a reason to see the glass as half full. I didn't even start ranting about our crappy return game. And for the sake of all of us, can we not find someone, anyone, who can actually be called a punter?

The good news is that fumble recovery rates are mostly random. At some point VT's fumble luck might correct itself but they should probably hold onto the damn ball instead.
Lobbing up the long ball was not the reason we didn't win. Some people are still caught up in the Liberty game. We took what UT gave us and made most of it. The offense was fairly consistent. A few plays were kind of off, but we were getting yards. No big drop backs were called because of the pressure from talented Vol defensive front and poor O-line play. Penalties and turnovers cost the game. Good teams will pounce on those mistakes.
At some point of the second and third quarters, the play calling was geared to get yards, not a quick score just so the defense could rest. Calling long pass plays is a desperation move. We were only down 17 at one point and driving for what I thought was a td drive when a fumble occurred.
Remember Fuente's comments about taking foot off the gas? Personally, I think it was a great called game for the mistakes we were making. That first quarter was a near perfect start. Waiting to watch the dvr and see French & Co.'s film reviews.

I agree but I'm way past tired as fuck of the whole "one minor setback, major comeback" and it taking a loss or two for the team to come together bs mentality. I'm looking for something new with a new coach and staff. I'm sure others are too.
This would tell us more. I could see the possibility of more fumbles coming with more plays being run due to the hurry up offensive scheme. At least, that's what I'd like to believe.
What I find funny is that watching the game, during the second and third quarter, it felt like I hardly saw the offense. They would get the ball, and then piss the drive away, and it'd be right back to Tennessee.
But TOP shows that second quarter was dead even, 7:32 to 7:28. Third quarter was a bit more leaning towards UT 6:01 to 8:59.
New coaching staff might change that culture so that we get up for every game. Not saying definitively, but I have a good feeling about it. Check back with me at mid-season.
The new UVA helmets are bothering me. I've noticed it with both versions they wear so far.
Problem #1:
-The style of the numbers doesn't match the V. The numbers are too big and blocky on the helmet. If they were smaller or thinner, it might look better. Or they should just leave the damn logo on both sides.
Problem #2:
-The color of the numbers doesn't match the V. In both cases, the V is color #1, and the outline and scissors are in color #2. But the number is color #2, with the outline being color #1. Specific to the white helmets -- the V was orange, and the outline/scissors were blue, while the number was blue with an orange outline. While the numbers match the jersey numbers, the helmet should be matching itself.
