Thanks to Bristol, Tri-City area... y'all were all friendly and gracious. (All y'all...sorry.) That is a beautiful area of the world.
I had a great time camping and enjoying Bristol...the UT fans were fun and enthusiastic (except read below). Bristol Motor Speedway is awesome in the true definition of the word.
BUT.....they underestimated the crowd and logistics were horrible. We left the campsite...a 3 minute walk from Red Bridge/BMS at 6:30 and got to our seats after being stuck, jostled, offended, etc at 8:05! It was such a mess (gate 8) that at the end, the gate stopped scanning tickets and 'security' just stood back as hundreds of people swarmed through the scanners which were alarming frequently. Then, we bottle-necked again inside trying to get to seats...poor security guy was yelling at the swarm 'STOP CROWDING, BACK UP NOW!' as if there were a choice.....
Prior to getting inside while we we literally stuck in a swarm waiting for an hour, I was fortunate to witness impressive public drunkenness en masse topped off by seeing a UT fan piss on the feet and legs of a VT fan causing a fight, etc. (Yes, actually publicly urinate on an opposing fan...) The asshole behind us at the game threw down a Mason jar of corn squeezin's on the ground when VT went up 14-0, shattering glass and thankfully missing our group....the other UT fans around us were also appropriately offended by the behavior....
I'm gonna say this, but while they were embarrassed by their fans (we've got ours, I know), I was embarrassed by our team's performance. We had another opportunity on a HUGE stage and fell flat.
I'm glad I went and I'm glad I'm home.

This is not true. It's two "unsportsmanlike" fouls that gets you DQ'ed. Teller had personal fouls, both blocking below the waist. After the second, you can see Fuente say to Vice "get him out" and send Pettit in.
The first foul was warranted. Ball had left zone, and Wyatt blocked below waist.
The second is questionable. Ball is in zone when Wyatt makes block.
Bought two waters right when we got there. My brother went to buy some in the 3rd and couldn't get anything. The water problem is inexcusable. NC State had a problem a few years ago running out of water and people passing out during an early September game and the following year they made sure they were over prepared. Anytime you are expecting a crowd this large and the people have probably been out tailgating for 8+ hours, you need to prioritize water over beer.
Not sure with the ability to bring in coolers if this is something they're not used to. They'll learn.
We are looking at making the move down there within next next 18 months. Looking in northern St. John's county.
He caught one kickoff one yard deep in the endzone and took it out, and somehow three UT guys got to the 10 yard line without being blocked. I was very disappointed in our kickoff return blocking last night, to be honest.
Both were drive killers too. Totally took all the momentum we were gaining and sucked the life out of the team.
Sam had a few good catches, and that one awesome run he got a key first down run for us .
We knew they were allowing any traffic at al, to move for 1 hour after the game.
We went back to the campground, my wife took a nap until 2:30 or so while I drank beer and had a good time.
We got back to EEast and coasted on out, arrived home just north of Roanoke about 2:15 after leaving the lot.
One thing we confirmed, in case anyone was unconvinced, Sam Rogers is the Master of Wheel Routes.

Same. They made most of us in EW go out the back to avoid 11 being blocked off. We only spent about an hour total getting to 81.
Beg to differ. A real man would've dumped all those rotten filets in the back yard and taken his boat to the car wash and spent however many quarters it would have taken to get the bad out. In this case, my buddy was a real man. A good boat is a terrible thing to waste. Wimmen is replaceable, he told me, a good boat is harder to.
Hodges carried the ball a bunch and averaged 5.5 yes per carry.
I think he knows how to coach the position. I blame the sacks last night more on coverage than the offensive line breaking down. The running game was working well too.
The best lineman do need to be playing though. Expecting players to perform the exact same every week in practice is ridiculous, and I believe it's just the coaches trying to set an example. Gallo is our best center and Teller is our best lineman in general. It's time for the coaches to play the best players.

Every kickoff? No.
I was at the game and saw that horrible punt pretty well (binoculars). He sort of rugby-punted it, and I swear it didn't get more than 5-10 feet off the ground. It basically hit a guy in the back and ended up recovered for what equates to a 5-10 yard punt, tops. Just horrible.
I think the worst part for me is that we all (thanks to French and others) can look at the game and say wow, the plays were there that fit the system we just didn't execute and made boneheaded plays. But to all my buddies from back home who go to other ACC schools, we just looked like ass. All of us key players who lurk on TKP 6 hours a day trying to understand the methodology know what could have been. But to everyone else who was watching the biggest game in college football history. We just looked like a cluster fuck who couldn't get anything together and show any discipline or toughness in the face of adversity and pressure. Being down 14 in the beamer era was game over usually. Being down 14 with fuente at the helm should not be cause for giving up and making boneheaded plays out of frustration. Not a good look for recruiting and for national rep.
I agree with this. The TOP after Q1 was staggering. Those drive killing fumbles and penalties not only gave UT very short fields to score, but also got their defense off the field. Those UT d-linemen would have been just trying to breathe in Q4 instead of batting down Jerod passes.
Gotta teach the blockers to locate the ball after they get 30+ yards upfield from the punt. Also gotta reinstill the value of the Peter call. Stroman should have come in screaming Peter at the top of his lungs.
Narduzzi's guys are legit. They handled Penn St. yesterday.
To start I didn't get to see how it came off his foot but thinking he just didn't come off his foot well which caused the short punt which hit a Tennessee player in the back of the leg being a fumble which caused the ball to go further back . Ended up being like a 20 yard punt if that
Hey, I'm in St Johns!
I was the lone VT fan among a group of 8-10 VOLS fans who went to the game from Nashville. The tailgating and general spectacle of the event was fun to be a part of. The opening with flyover and national anthem was powerful. And then, the 14-0 start by the good guys, to silence the 65-70% UT fans in attendance, was amazing. Unfortunately, we all saw what happened in Q 2-4. I have never witnessed a team self-destruct in SO many ways. It was almost laughable, if not so painful.
And all the while, I'm surrounded by UT fans. Though my UT friends were gracious enough, it still just sucks.
If you live in SEC country like I do, it was worst case scenario. The perception of VT in this area of the country -- it's bad. And, last night's game will only further that perception. No one will remember that we shot ourselves in the feet - all night. They will only see the final score and minimize VT football even more.
You may say, who cares? All I can say is -- try living in SEC and UT country and listening to what I listen to year round. It sucks to have everyone you live around condescend about the team you love and take such pride in.
On the bright side, I saw SO many things last night that give me hope in this coaching staff and our offensive side of the ball. And the defense played very solid last night (which I almost take for granted -- thanks to Bud). I'm optimistic about the team we can become, even this season, once we get the fumbles and penalties cleaned up. We have the pieces, and I am very impressed with how Evans is coming along.
This too shall pass. On to conference play, where we still have every opportunity in front of us. Go Hokies!!
