The software engineer in me thinks the mathematician in me is too anal.
I think if they are all even now you could also make the argument to play JJ now which will benefit the program the next 3 years getting him into the fire. Having said that we could have another freshmen qb come into the program over the next few years who replaces him as well, so no guarantee he'd be a 3-4 year starter.

Of course Jackson has improved his game and put himself in contention, but the subtle or not-so-subtle signal to Motley and Evans might be, 'this kid has changed the rules so it's now time to grab the bull by the gonads and up your game. I need a leader.'

good understanding of the complexities, etc. He seems poised and relaxed
out on the field. The tough decision is making sure he'll get significant playing

As someone who doesn't have kids, I can't speak to whether or not it gets easier. But as the youngest of 5, I'm pretty sure by the time I was going to kindergarten my parents were mostly numb to the separation anxiety and whatever emotions go with that. I'm sure it's different for everyone though. I guess you'll find out eventually.
I'd like to see a return of the "we are up by 40 so let's do the wave".
I only want us win all our pre-season scrimmages and to beat UT and ND, and uvA, and uNc, and pItt, and Ducke, and ECwho?, and Liberty, and the whoU, and Gyaja ech, and BC, and SU, and FSU in ACCCG, and Oregon in the semis, and Alabamer in the final. Other than that, I won't complain.

# | Josh Jackson's "Really Good Camp" Propels Him Into Middle of Virginia Tech's QB Competition My biggest concern with a 3-horse race is when it comes time to make a decision, who do they pick? At this point in camp, no one has clearly risen above the others and its only become more difficult with JJ rising into the pack. When it comes down to it and no one is substantially better than the others, do you pick the guy with the most starting experience or the most return eligibility left? I agree with most here that Josh has clearly been the highlight of camp for the QBs (from what has been made public) but all this has done is make the decision that much more difficult.
I predict that we will still see J-rod come out for the first snap sept 3 but he will be on a short leash. I think JJ will be the backup leaving Motley on the bench. Nothing personal about him, I just have never seen the IT-factor for Motley to be a D-1 starter. But I also think we will see a revolving door against liberty so I expect all 3 QBs to play at least a series against Liberty (assuming we take care of business and go up by a few scores). In the end, the starter against Liberty may not be the starter in Bristol.
Work on mechanics and get a solid grip on the offense.
The only issue I have with this statement is that all of the QBs are learning the same offense at the same time. It's not like Josh Jackson came into an offense the other two had been running for several seasons..this is new to everyone. Even playing field. It's completely conceivable that he has a better grip on it now than the other guys do.
That being said I generally agree with you. I think if the 3 are all relatively even (which it sounds like that is probably the case) then you redshirt your future (JJ) and play the guy who gives you the best chance to win games now. If it is clear that JJ is the best option at QB then start him. I just don't know if it's clear at this point. My hope is that one of the other two guys steps up and shows that he is as good or better than JJ.
In any event, competition is good. I like that JJ is pushing the others and I have to believe this will only result in good things for our offense this year. It's exciting news!

A team not hovering around .500 ball (8 or more wins) would be nice.

"Clearly Better" is easier to observe and would likely imply that the "clearly better" QB is the obvious best option when considering all aspects of the position.
I'm just trying to figure out what the significance of 82 is

So the word we got out of Earheart is they do not want any tents in the RV Spots. We can have just about anything else we want (I took that to mean yes bring the AG Pool). I think they do not want 40 people cramming into one spot.

You've seen Motley play, and Evans played junior college ball. Before that Evans was going to go to Air Force. The notion that he was an NFL-worthy hired gun to come in and take control always seemed very premature in my opinion. Similar to the Lawson hype. Play the best guy, I still don't know what "clearly the best" means. Either he's better or he isn't, either better or the same. Why would he have to be "much better " in order to play? I don't understand that train of thought. Better is better even if incremental
