Don't all our QBs have incredible physical tools? I'd say Motley is behind Lawson and Evans strictly physically. Maybe a longer deep ball than the other two, I haven't seen Evans throw it deep, but both of them look like more fluid runners with bigger bodies
Yeah, I was thinking that was what you were alluding to. I guess it wouldn't surprise me to think that real time game experience will perhaps be the final arbiter of whose up first, but I do expect Evans to be the man by then. We'll see. Definitely an interesting few months coming up. Thanks for the post.
What nick did that earn you? Enquiring minds need to know.
I carried a extra large bottle of frebreeze in my trunk. One day there were three of us riding and our pads broke the bottle spilling 64 oz of frebreeze all over all my football stuff. I smelled like a spring meadow for two weeks.
VT is division 1-A, App St was division 1-AA when they won 3 national titles in a row. I think they still are experiencing the momentum gained from those titles that propelled them into the Sun Belt Conference.
Yes sir lol
What I like is that he is a "wrap up" tackler. We have seen many backers really lay a hit on a back and fail to wrap the guy up. He surely has good fundamentals.
Yeah, we need to get back to the days of tackling-machine LBs like Ben Taylor, Vince Hall, and Mike Johnson, the latter of which is the only Hokie LB that I know of who's made an impact in the NFL. Hopefully, getting Ashby is a start getting back to LB dominance.
Its amazing what a new HC seems to do for Bud's ability recruit. I know we are thin at LB, but how many will we take this year?
If he's 215 as a HS junior, there's no reason he wouldn't be at least 225-230 by the time Coach Foster gets him, and once in the program, he will probably add more to his frame. So, considering his age, being a 215 pound LB is probably bigger than the norm. Sounds like another great recruit!
I second that emotion. Regardless of size, this kid is a player, and looks like a natural LB. Good get.
I am just happy to see an actual LB recruit.
Yeah, I think this would be my 4th trip in the last 2 years, the last being thanksgiving but there are still new places that have opened since then.
Got to Burial last time. Lots of good beer there.
A leg for Gus.
Hahaha! Reminds me of HS, and only doing laundry at the end of the week.
Your practice undershirt could stand up by itself. You had to kind of "break it" to put it on.
You can thank our generation for super staph, I guess.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of LCB, too. They've been playing good football there forever. The kids must be getting good coaching from 12 year olds on up. This tape is just ridiculous - perfect plays over and over again. Sure, there are guys that whiff on blocks, but this is a LB that is playing on a different level and seeing the field way better than everyone else - and as a junior. There is a good combination of coaching and talent going on here. I would spend a lot of time recruiting there.
My bad I thought you misspelled it since it is not in quotes. Have some legs.
I really don't want to smell anything associated with the first day of pads practice.
Actually, we're paying the cost of the additional Beamer.
So while he can do public appearances and attend games at other universities, he does it as a representative of Virginia Tech.
I think it's a good thing.
"I'm Hokie, and I vote."
56-43 now.
Woot Woot!! Day 1, why haven't they listed a STARTER!!! /s
I don't think I'll be surprised if Evans, Motely or Lawson get the starting job. It's hard to gleem any sense of what's going on and who they like by 2 min snapchat videos of an entire practice. Until someone starts getting "first team" reps I'm not making any assumptions.
So many teams talk about getting after it on STs now. Of course the big thing they always talk about is how Urban Meyer uses starters on the STs and how he expects them to play, etc etc yadda yadda. They've been re-miss lately to explain where Meyer learned that though. Although Meyer has stated before, as has Saban I believe, that Beamer was the starter of that trend and everyone learned from him in that respect. Ah well.
Two Beamers for the price of one!โ
โ Additional Beamer may be of equal or greater value
No not knock him out necessarily. I think there will be more of a change of pace/ breather for the starter combined with the fact the coaches may still be looking for the true starter in Bristol. This could be the closest QB competition we have had for the starting position in a decade. JMO.

Evans has never played a down of D1 football so it's hopeful that he will play well but I don't know how you can say that you expect him to be the starter. Especially when you have a guy with several years experience who has won games in the past.
